  • LEGALISM part 1 (of 3) BY LEW WHITE (USA) Legalism means "Strict adherence to law, especially to the letter rather than the spirit. The sheep are divided over which shepherds voice to follow. When we find ourselves in the world-to-come, the denomination we belonged to in our flesh will be irrelevant. This is because there is only one true denomination now, and one way (Natsarim**). The way always was, is, and will be the way of Torah*. The inspired Word does not indicate any concern with how mechanical our obedience is, yet that is the primary criticism of many who speak against what they call legalism. • GetUp's High Court 2010 election legalist fc#kfest: 1 million+ voters still disenfranchised in Auz!? (composite video- techno-Viking @9.50, indigenous @11.50+) Activist organisation GetUp has won its constitutional challenge to electoral laws, meaning 100000 Australians who missed the deadline to enrol to vote will now be able to cast their ballots on August 21. The lobby group was challenging the 2006 amendments to Australia's Electoral Act, made by the former Howard government, which closed electoral rolls on the day the writs of election were issued. Prior to the 2006 amendments, Australians had seven days to enrol or update their details after the writs were issued. Sam McLean from GetUp says the ruling is a win for democracy. He says it proves that in Australia voting "is for all, not just for some". Mr McLean says the Australian Electoral Commission will contact the 100000 who missed the deadline, but enrolled within a week of the writs being issued..... The case was brought to the High Court by two plaintiffs, Doug Thompson and Shannen Rowe. Neither plaintiff enrolled before the 8pm deadline, but attempted to do within seven days of the electoral writs being issued. After winning the case, both plaintiffs - and the thousands of others who missed the deadline - will be able to vote in this month's federal election. .au GetUp! wins High Court challenge to electoral roll cut-off - THE Electoral Commission has issued voting instructions for thousands of extra people now eligible to do so at the August 21 election after a High Court ruling today. • Legalism is worse than adultery Through the incident of the woman caught in adultery in John 8:1-11, Jesus shows us how a judgemental legalistic attitude is worse than adultery. But Jesus does not give licence to adultery, but corrects with utmost mercy and compassion. Zac Poonen, tells us how the only way to grow spiritually is to stop judging others and start judging ourselves. For he who accuses others has the same spirit of the devil who is accuser of the brethren. And when we realize how we have failed, we are convicted of our sin by gaining intellectual understanding, but unless we are broken and go to God in deep repentance, we continue to fail in this area. This clip is an extract from the message " Characteristics of Pharisees" delivered in a conference on "Led by the Spirit, not under the Law". • Could You Be a LEGALIST ? Take The Quiz Could you be a legalist?—Take the quiz! Answer yes or no to the following questions: 1) God's love for me depends on what I do. 2) Meeting the expectations of others, especially those in my congregation or in positions of authority, are paramount. 3) Moral and ethical questions are usually black and white and only made into fuzzy shades of gray by hand-wringing, bleeding-heart types. 4) I try hard to obey God and it irritates me that others think they can get away with avoiding the same level of dedication. 5) I fall short because I don't have enough faith, or because I haven't prayed enough, or because I just need to be a better person. 6) God is predisposed to be angry with me because I am a sinner. My main goal in life is to try to gain God's favor by doing things that will impress him. 7) My sense of spiritual well-being is linked to a Christian leader or membership in my church rather than a personal relationship with God. 8) I tell my children not to do something in church or around other Christian families that I allow in my home. 9) I believe my church is God's true church and that most other Christians may be sincere, but are sincerely wrong. 10) The exterior choices a person makes in what they wear, hairstyle, piercings, tattoos, etc. is a clear indication of that person's character. 11) I sometimes worry that people might take advantage of grace if it's preached too much —people might think they can do anything they want. 12) After being around Christians for a ...

  • Legalism and Holiness Are Opposites; Not "Kissing-Cousins" HOLINESS! It's not exactly a subject that we hear alot about... and part of the reason we don't hear alot about it is that most of us are either Pharisees, recovering Pharisees, married to a Pharisee, or directly descended from one thereof. As a result, we are very skittish about stuff that sounds like, "Do this and don't do that!" We know only too well from having heard the Gospel of truth that the keeping of the law, "the doing of this", and "the not doing of that" is not the means by which right standing is found with God Almighty. God saves us by His Grace. There is nothing that we can do, NOTHING that we can do... to cause Him to love us more or to cause us to fall out of His favor. That is the grace and mercy of God. That is His good providence. That is His electing POWER. But... That does create a bit of a problem because over and over again, all throughout the Bible, God says, "Do this and don't do that!" That's not just in the Old Testament. Jesus says over and over again, "If you love me, you WILL obey my commandments." Over and over again, He says, "This is how the world will know that you are my disciples: that you LOVE one another!" ...The Pharisees, the Jews in John Chapter 8, actually believed that they could simply by the strength of their own will, gain right standing with God. That's not what holiness is. That's legalism, and legalism and holiness are opposites; not "kissing-cousins". - Dr. George Grant Subscribe to Parish Pres. Podcast: podcast ...

If the $US drops far enough, manufacturing will return from Asia, factories will be re-opened or new factories built..... but wages + salaries won't quite be what they used to be, uhh "It's tempting to look back on these moments and assume that our progress was inevitable - that America was always destined to succeed. But when the Union was turned back at Bull Run, and the Allies first landed at Omaha Beach, victory was very much in doubt. When the market crashed on Black Tuesday, and civil rights marchers were beaten on Bloody Sunday, the future was anything but certain. These were the times that tested the courage of our convictions, and the strength of our union. And despite all our divisions and disagreements, our hesitations and our fears, America prevailed because we chose to move forward as one nation, as one people. Again, we are tested. And again, we must answer history's call. One year ago, I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by a severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt. Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted - immediately and aggressively.
