Mantis VS Katydid One of my praying mantids (European mantis, Mantis religiosa) catching and eating a Katydid that I caught outside. The katydid was aware it was being stalked so it took a few attempts for the mantis to finally get a solid grab on it. Every summer I usually go around the local park and find an ootheca on a twig to bring home and hatch. I wait for them all to molt once after feeding them some fruit flies then release most and raise like 20 of them. They're so vicious, I love it.
Katydid Cloth Diaper: First Impression I REALLY like this diaper! The quality is awesome and its very similar to Fuzzi Bunz, however, the claim that its a one size diaper isn't entirely true. It claims to fit babies from 8-35 pounds....my daughter is only 28 pounds and was on the biggest setting and the leg gussets were WAY too tight and could not be adjusted. My daughter is also not a chunky baby at all....she is on the smaller end for a child her age, so I know it wouldn't fit a chunky thighed baby. HOWEVER, I think this diaper would be awesome for babies from newborn to around 18 months!! I was also very impressed with the high quality of the diaper!

The Katydid (Leaf Bug) Here is the beautiful Tettigoniidae, more commonly known in North America as the Katydid or Leaf Bug, and in the UK as the Bush Cricket. These guys are some of my favorite insect species! They are remarkable at camouflaging themselves in trees and bushes and even mimmic the motion of leaves in the breeze. Katydids mdc.mo.gov As spring warms to summer... nature makes new sounds. One of the loudest and most familiar calls belongs to the katydids. Katydids are a type of grasshopper. These insects make their distinct "katy-did-katy-didn't" song by rubbing their wings together. Both male and female katydids sing to attract mates. Their green bodies have long slender legs, large, veined wings and antennae which are twice as long as most grasshoppers. Because of their antennae, they are called "long-horned" grasshoppers.

Katy Did - Jimmy White - HD.mov - Jimmy White wrote this song after a business meeting a few years ago. "I was a kid, working for the government as a bank regulator. Many of the banks we worked at would take us to lunch occasionally, just as a goodwill type of thing. Each institution had its own personality, not the homogenized type of banking there is today, and this bank had a bunch of younger guys who thought they were hot stuff, if you know what I mean. Anyway, they take us to lunch to a "go go" bar, which in Jersey is essentially girls walking around in bathing suits, nothing too risque. We come in and they start talking to one of the girls, whom they obviously know, and it seems like they're good friends. Well, as soon as she walked away to put in our order, these guys begin putting her down, laughing at her, calling her ugly names. I was astounded at this, how two faced they were, and how they obviously thought they were so much better than her. Argiope Aurantia vs. Big Katydid (Tettigoniidae) I'm really not sure what these bugs are called. My freind, leasma, classified it as a Katydid. All I know, is that they make really lound noises as a mating call in late summer at night. This is a video of a Black and Yellow Argiope Spider wrapping this bug up, and then taking a bite to paralyze it. Pretty good quality. Katydid mimicry: leaf bug attacks basil leaf I saw an unusual leaf on my mammoth basil plant today... Mimicry capabilities of this giant katydid bug are amazing. It even mimics the tiny veins on the leaves. This video was filmed with Canon EOS t3i camera with a Canon EF 28-135mm lens. It was sunset, so the ISO used was 800 or over, thus the grainy image.

Katydid Waltz - Jim Herd, fiddle Jim's family was playing fiddle in America before the Revolutionary War. They moved to Tennessee, and then to Missouri. Jim moved to Sunnyside, WA, about 55 years ago. He taught a lot of young fiddlers in the Pacific Northwest tunes that had been handed down in his family for many generations.
