Antique Cast Iron Mechanical Bank PUNCH AND JUDY Presenting an original, rare, antique cast iron "PUNCH AND JUDY" mechanical bank. This is an ORIGINAL, NOT REPRODUCTION, bank. The action of this particular bank functions well, and the spring is still strong. As can be seen in the photos, the original paint is still in very good condition for an item of this vintage. There is no rust on the bank, and the castings are all in excellent condition, with no apparent chips or cracks. This is a very nice piece! The bottom has printed, "Buffalo. NY-USA Patd in US July 15 and July 22:84 This bank measures 7 1/2" inches high and 6 1/4" inches wide. The depth is 2 1/2" inches. The bank is Punch And Judy and it accurately depicts this most well known of all puppet shows. Puppetry as such would seem to have possible origins as far back as ancient Egypt, then possibly on into Fifth Century BC Greece. In any case, by the 17th Century puppets were everywhere and welcomed as an inexpensive form of theatre. The rise of Punch typifies the popularity of this form of entertainment. He started in Naples as Polcinella, a name derived from "Little Chicken." This name seemed to fit the strutting, squawking, and uncertain courage, as well as the lovable qualities, of the character. By 1650 he reached Paris, and by 1660 ...

Bantock House - The First Floor On the first floor, you can find out more about the skills, trades and people that made Wolverhampton famous. Baldwin Bantock's original billiard room has recently been recreated to offer an interactive look at the lives of six great men from Victorian Wolverhampton. Delve inside the billiard table's drawers, play games and browse through albums to find out how these men lived and how their work shaped the town. Also brand new for 2007 is the Community Gallery. This space is home to a rolling programme of exhibitions that combine the knowledge and memories of local people with objects from our own collections. In the main gallery on the first floor, you will find selected items from our Decorative Arts collection, including japanned ware, enamels, steel jewellery and locks. Soon, however, this space will be transformed into a lady's bedroom and nursery in order to display these beautiful objects in a more natural and interactive setting. This work, along with the creation of a new servants' room, is due to be completed by the end of 2008. Watch this space! Louis XVI This signature room features neoclassical lines from the French perspective. Louis XVI's furniture style is a total juxtaposition from Louis XV's, with exaggerated curves and c-scrolls returning to straight lines, often reeded, as in the English Regency period. Other notable differences include the use of lighter and more feminine colors - pale blues and creams - while remaining ornate with much gilding. This large room features hand-painted leaf and ribbon designs copied from a chateau in Normandy, and stunning crystal chandeliers. The king-sized bed features a hand-painted gold-leafed finish and is wrapped in voluminous aqua brocade draperies. The window décor includes hand-painted cornice treatments in the sitting area, which overlooks the ocean and mansion's lawns. A large walkout deck provides an outdoor lounging area. The vanilla-colored marbled bath boasts a double Jacuzzi, large shower with multiple showerheads and body jets, pedestal sink and crystal chandelier. The room features four crystal chandeliers and a small antique writing desk dating from the 19th century. Use of Egyptian motifs like the sphinx and other animals, as well as chinoiserie, japanned furniture and bronzed or gilded appliqués, is reflected in the rooms elaborate décor.

The house is named after Baldwin and Kitty Bantock. They lived here 100 years ago. On the ground floor, you can discover more about the Bantock family and the way they lived. Take your time and browse through family albums, peek inside bureau drawers and soak up the Arts and Crafts inspired decor. Upstairs, the focus shifts to the men and women who shaped Wolverhampton and the industries they created. In addition to our newly-restored Billiard Room, we have a fantastic new Community Gallery. On this floor you will find displays featuring items from our exquisite Decorative Arts collection, including locally-made enamels, steel jewellery and japanned ware. We also have temporary exhibitions all year round, so there is always something new to see. NFXI Japan Tour 2008 In 2008, The Ned Flanders XI embarked on their second international tour. This time they took to the Asian powerhouse of Japan and, as they did two years previously in Vanuatu, defeated the Japanese on foreign soil. These are some of the highlights away from the cricket.

Bantock House - The Ground Floor Baldwin and Kitty Bantock's style shines through on the ground floor, with an abundance of patterned wallpapers, decorative glass, and wood paneling. Many of the items on display are from their own collection, including a stunning japanned cabinet, a carved ivory chess set and pieces of English porcelain. The Dining Room has been furnished to represent what the Bantock family's dining room might have looked like one hundred years ago. Take a seat and flip through albums that tell the stories of the house and its occupants. In the Bantock's tranquil drawing room, you can find out about Baldwin and Kitty's love of gardening. Relax and take in the views of the gardens, which have been restored to Baldwin's original designs -- and remember to look out for a surprise in the paddock where the family used to keep Highland cattle! Before making your way upstairs, you are invited to settle by the cosy inglenook fireplace in the lobby and browse through our collection of books about Arts & Crafts design.
