  • SC Warning Calls Over Digging Black Money _ Talking tough, the Supreme Court on Friday questioned the Government as to why it was reluctant in disclosing the names of Indian nationals who have allegedly stashed black money in foreign banks. "What is the difficulty in disclosing the information," a Bench comprising B Sudershan Reddy and SS Nijjar asked when Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium informed the bench that Government has got the details but did not want to reveal it. The court's remarks came after the Government contended that it has got the information from the German government pertaining to the bank accounts of Indian citizens in Liechtenstein Bank there. "What is the privilege you are claiming for not disclosing the information (about those who have money deposited in foreign banks)," the Bench asked Subramanium. After the court's poser, Subramanium submitted that he would take instructions from the government with reference to the names of the Indian nationals holding bank accounts in foreign countries. The court was hearing a petition filed by noted criminal lawyer Ram Jethmalani, who along with some retired bureaucrats and police officers approached it seeking directions to the government to take steps to bring black money stashed in foreign bank back to the country. The court said it would like persons including Pune-based businessman Hassan Ali Khan, who is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate(ED) in connection with alleged black money stashed in foreign banks, to be impleaded as a party to ...

  • The Book of Acts 11/16 (The Acts of the Apostles) The Acts of the Apostles, usually referred to simply as Acts, is the fifth book of the New Testament; Acts outlines the history of the Apostolic Age. The author is traditionally identified as Luke the Evangelist. Acts tells the story of the Apostolic Age of the Early Christian church, with particular emphasis on the ministry of the Twelve Apostles and of Paul of Tarsus. The early chapters, set in Jerusalem, discuss Jesus' Resurrection and Great Commission, his Ascension with a prophecy to return, the start of the Twelve Apostles' ministry, and the Day of Pentecost. The later chapters discuss Paul's conversion, his ministry, and finally his arrest and imprisonment and trip to Rome. The structure of the book of Luke is closely tied with the structure of Acts. Both books are most easily tied to the geography of the book. Luke begins with a global perspective, dating the birth of Jesus to the reign of the Roman emperors in Luke 2:1 and 3:1. From there we see Jesus' ministry move from Galilee (chapters 4--9), through Samaria and Judea (chs. 10--19), to Jerusalem where he is crucified, raised and ascended into heaven (chs. 19--24). The book of Acts follows just the opposite motion, taking the scene from Jerusalem (chs. 1--5), to Judea and Samaria (chs. 6--9), then traveling through Syria, Asia Minor, and Europe towards Rome (chs. 9--28). This chiastic structure emphasizes the centrality of the resurrection and ascension to Luke's message, while emphasizing the universal nature ...

  • Vaiko says malicious campaign made deliberately to malign the .LTTE.wmv Vaiko says malicious campaign made deliberately to malign the LTTE. On 24 September 2010 (Friday) the proceedings commenced at 3.30 pm, in Court Room 2 of Delhi High Court. The Hon'ble Judge Vikramjit Sen, Senior Judge permitted MDMK General Secretary Vaiko to place his arguments to implead him in the proceedings about the ban on LTTE. The central government of India extended the ban on LTTE for another two years in May 2010. The Indian government says even though the LTTE is eliminated in Sri Lanka, the remnant LTTE cadres and leaders are regrouping in Tamil Nadu, a state that favors a separate homeland for the Tamils in Sri Lanka. The Home Ministry of India has noted that there is a possibility of LTTE's remnant cadres using India and especially, Tamil Nadu as a rear base for their regrouping activities. Vaiko told "My Lord, I am really happy for this opportunity to clarify this vital point. The LTTE never wanted to annex even an inch of land of Tamil Nadu with their Tamil Eelam," Vaiko replied. "Could the Union Government of India prove that the LTTE did mention in any of their periodicals or manifesto or publications? They could not. This is beyond any stretch of imagination of Eelam Tamils. This is a vicious, malicious campaign made deliberately by the Indian Government to malign the LTTE," Vaiko told the Tribunal. The special tribunal, headed by a High Court Justice to examine the legality of extension of ban on LTTE, declined a plea made by Vaiko, to hear him ...
