  • The Mask - Cuban Pete Funny song from the movie The Mask The Mask is a Dark Horse comic book series created by writer John Arcudi and artist Doug Mahnke, and based on a concept by publisher Mike Richardson. The series follows a magical mask which imbues the wearer with reality-bending power and physical imperviousness, as well as bypassing the wearer's psychological inhibitions. It was adapted into the 1994 film The Mask, starring Jim Carrey, which was followed by an animated television series voiced by Rob Paulsen, and then by a 2005 sequel, Son of the Mask. The Mask (1994) A film version of The Mask was released in the United States on July 29, 1994, starring Jim Carrey in the title role. Directed by Chuck Russell, the film co-starred Peter Greene as Dorian Tyrell, Peter Riegert as Lt. Mitch Kellaway, Orestes Matacena as Niko, Richard Jeni as Charlie Schumacher, Amy Yasbeck as Peggy Brandt, and Cameron Diaz, in her screen debut, as Tina Carlyle. Ben Stein has a cameo role as Dr. Arthur Neuman. While there were early efforts to take the movie in the direction of horror (some at New Line Cinema saw it as a replacement for their fading Nightmare On Elm Street franchise), it was never completely intended as a "dark horror" picture. New Line had problems coming up with a script that could show violence that was comical, but had more success with a story that had comedy that was violent. Richardson always pushed in the direction of the Tex Avery concept which was eventually adopted, despite the ...

  • In-Line Thickness Measurement temate® TG-IL The temate® TG-IL is designed for automated in-line thickness measurement of metallic parts and components. The measurement is made by calculating the time it takes for an ultrasonic pulse that has been generated in the material to reflect back from an opposite wall or boundary. Once the speed of sound is obtained theoretically or using a calibrated test piece, thickness is derived using a simple mathematical equation. For generation of ultrasound the temate® TG-IL uses non-contact Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) technology, a technique especially well suited for taking measurements at high production speeds in demanding industrial environments. EMAT differs from other ultrasonic methods in the way the sound is generated. In traditional ultrasound a piezoelectric crystal is used to convert electrical energy into a mechanical vibration, which makes its way into the test piece via a liquid couplant. An EMAT relies on electro-magnetic acoustic interaction between the probe and the material to generate the ultrasound. An EMAT located in close proximity of an electrical conductor will make the lattice surface vibrate thus inducing the ultrasonic pulse in the part. The material being inspected is in essence its own transducer, eliminating the need for couplant. The advantages of generating the sound in the part for thickness measurement include: Dry, non-contact inspection. This facilitates integration and automation and permits high-temperature and high speed ...

  • Let Me In Official Trailer! John Ajvide Lindqvist's celebrated vampire novel makes the leap to the big screen once again with the second feature adaptation in so many years (Tomas Alfredson's critically acclaimed 2008 hit Let the Right One In, being the first). The sensitive target of vicious bullying at school, 12-year-old Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is a social misfit from a broken home. By day Owen dreams about laying waste to his classroom tormentors; by night his attentions turn to his reclusive neighbors in their austere apartment complex. One evening, as Owen takes out his pent-up aggressions on a tree, his new neighbor Abby (Chloë Grace Moretz) appears over his shoulder. A young girl wise beyond her years, Abby just moved in next door to Owen with her stoic caretaker (Richard Jenkins), who seems to harbor a sinister secret. Compelled by Abby's apparent imperviousness to the harsh winter elements, her frail disposition, and the fact that she's nowhere to be found before the sun falls, Owen senses a kindred soul, and strikes up a friendship with the girl, despite her repeated attempts to maintain an emotional distance. Simultaneously, their community grows vigilant following a series of vicious murders, and Abby's caretaker vanishes without a trace. Later, as Abby begins to grow vulnerable, her bond with Owen strengthens. By the time Owen begins to suspect that his evasive new friend is something other than human, it starts to seem as if Abby could use a good friend after all. Given that his ...

  • madara is faster than yondaime Madara is almost completely impervious to damage. When struck, attacks pass right through him, though he sometimes pretends to be hurt or cry out in pain.[9] It was speculated by Kakashi that he uses a space-time ninjutsu to instantly send himself or even parts of his body to different locations or some sort of void and then instantly bring them back. The only time Madara's solidness can be confirmed is when he interacts with others, leaving him susceptible to counterattack when he does so. Since being defeated by Hashirama Senju, Madara has only been shown damaged once; before he "absorbed" Torune, Torune touched Madara's right arm, getting it infected with nano bugs and therefore forcing Madara to remove it. Madara also shows the ability to travel long distances within relatively short timespans. While he is usually seen using this ability on himself, avoiding attacks rather than relying on his imperviousness, he can teleport anyone. When he teleports Karin and Sasuke, he sends them to what is apparently a separate dimension. They are forced to stay there until he chooses to release them. The chakra signatures of those that have been teleported completely vanishes. His right eye appears to be the basis for this transportation. Two years of detox and counselling later, he bumped into his old friend Ged Lynch ...
  • Anna Dalassena Cavafy Poems Nos. 129-131 Adapted & Read by Charles Bryant 129. LADY ANNA DALASSENA Alexios Comnenos, imperial lord, issued an imperial decree honouring his imperial Lady Mother the learned Lady Anna Dalassena. Lavishly he praised her, her merciful doings and her holy ways. Lavishly he praised his noble mother the pious learned Lady Anna who never had been covetous, who never said, no man ever heard her say "This or that is mine, and that is thine." No no! He kneels before her shrine, her golden shrine adorned with precious stones. He praises his pure mother who from thrones and empires had always been remote, a humble Christian cross, set with rubies, set with emeralds, at her throat. 130. GREEK FROM ANCIENT TIMES from Argos flying to these friendless waters (from the Iphigenia in Taurus of Euripides, translated by Philip Vellacott) Antiochenes are always boasting about their splendid city, the wonderful buildings and well paved streets, beautiful countryside and numerous populace, the seat of glorious kings. About their artists and famed philosophers and fabulously wealthy merchants... and beautiful boys. And yet you know, above all else they boast of their Grecian heritage. "Greek from ancient times" they say "when Io, daughter of Inarchos, king of Argos, seduced by Zeus in shape of a great bull, came here to friendly Syria to die. Here the Argive colonists built our town." 131. In 1901 What made him so exceptionally rare was that, although entirely dissolute and given ...

A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi-synthetic organic solids used in the manufacture of industrial products. Monomers of plastic are either natural or synthetic organic compounds. The word plastic is derived from the Greek πλαστικός (plastikos) meaning capable of being shaped or moulded, from πλαστός (plastos) meaning moulded. It refers to their malleability, or plasticity during manufacture, that allows them to be cast, pressed, or extruded into a variety of shapes—such as films, fibers, plates, tubes, bottles, boxes, and much more. The common word plastic should not be confused with the technical adjective ...
  • 3. Flannery O'Connor, Wise Blood The American Novel Since 1945 (ENGL 291) Professor Amy Hungerford's first lecture on Flannery O'Connor's Wise Blood addresses questions of faith and interpretation. She uses excerpts from O'Connor's copious correspondence to introduce the critical framework of O'Connor's Catholicism, but invites us to look beyond the question of redemption. What do characters see in this text, and what are they blind to? What do we see as readers, and how does methodology shape this vision? 00:00 - Chapter 1. • Krystian Lupa at Lincoln Center Festival From Time Out Magazine: Audience members stumbling out of Krystian Lupas Kalkwerk looked one of two ways—either pale, depressed and irritated, or simply pale and depressed. Even for those who dig Lupas meticulous investigations into human creativity and madness (and I count myself among them), a Lupa show requires the marathon spirit and an imperviousness to other peoples ennui. And so I know youre thinking, Hooray? Because suddenly it strikes me that Im not doing a great job of talking you into this show. Let me be clear: I really like Kalkwerk. As an atmospheric study alone (rich with genuinely terrifying sound and a set caught between Alexandra Exter and Terry Gilliam), its a game-changer. As a theatrical adaptation of the Thomas Bernhard novel, its chillingly on-target. But, no, its not a walk in the park. So think of Kalkwerks blighted Beckettian gloom as a nice complement to your summer entertainment calendar. Not everything can be cherry lipgloss and thinly veiled racism (hi, Transformers!), or an epic on the sweetness of human memory (were looking at you, Ariane). Lincoln Center Festival knows that sometimes, youve got to get some grit in your festival, and then spend four long hours weeping it out. Read more:
  • Signals, Truth, & Design Google Tech Talks January 11, 2007 ABSTRACT Much of what we want to know about other people is not directly perceivable. Are you a nice person? Did you really like the cake I baked? If we got married, would you be a good parent to our children? Instead, we rely on signals, which are perceivable features or actions that indicate the presence of those hidden qualities. Yet not all signals are reliable. It is beneficial for the con-man to seem nice, for the guest to seem to like the burnt cake, for the unsuitable suitor to seem as attractive as possible. While these deceptions benefit the deceiver, they may be quite costly for the recipient. What keeps signals honest — and why are some signals...
