  • Where is my sweetie hiding - Prague Orch.1993 Where is my sweetie hiding-Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra 1993 The Czech singer Ondrej Havelka fronts the Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra and does faithful and charming versions of jazz and popular songs from the 1920s and 30s. Ondrej Havelka has quite an artistic background: his mother Libuse Havelkova was a well known actress, while his father Svatopluk was a composer. Ondrej Havelka is a real renaissance man: he is an accomplished actor and director. And, as his career in music began to take off, and he found himself playing at ever bigger venues, he also became a very impressive tap-dancer. In 1995 he started his own group the Melody Makers. In the 1980's he sang in English but during the communist days they couldn't perform on Television or on the radio with their English repertoire. Ondrej said "we could play only Czech songs (laughs) on official television or radio. We played concerts for people in theatres and halls and jazz clubs, and then we could sing in English." The music they play is from inter-war period, an era many Czechs regard as the greatest in their history. Ondrej Havelka says some people tend to idealise the First Republic, as it's called, but argues that in some ways it really was a golden era.

I think it is an unacceptable situation when students studying radio physics, say, are practicing with equipment that is 30-50 years old. If it is innovation we want we need to have innovation in the universities, we need to have students studying it as part of the learning process. What is the solution to the problem? DMITRY MEDVEDEV: What is the solution? Investment is the only recipe. We cannot take modern equipment from one to give to another, and so the only solution is to invest money. But to be objective, you have to admit that we have made some progress in this area of late, through the national project and various recent measures. Overall, universities have received more than one billion dollars for modernising their technical resources. This is already quite a lot of money. But this does not mean that all the outdated equipment has gone. This brings me back to my starting point. Of course it is not possible to study in a modern university using equipment that is 30-50 years old. This is not a recent problem. When I was a student, I was in the humanities, but I worked at one point with my father at the technological institute and saw what the situation was like there for students in the late 1970s-early 1980s, there was ...

It is a great honour for any leader, including the President of the Russian Federation. This is particularly true given that today is a special day with enormous significance for Europe, for Serbia, and for Russia: it is the 65th anniversary of Belgrades liberation from *** occupation. I sincerely congratulate you on this holiday, which is a part of our common history of victory. Serbia honours everyone who gave their lives fighting for its liberation. I saw this for myself today, while laying flowers at the liberators cemetery, where Soviet soldiers are buried. I would like to thank the people of Serbia with all of my heart, on behalf of our nation, for their responsible and honourable attitudes toward the history of World War II. There is no need to explain to the Serbian people which side in that war was in the right. You fought against the ***s bravely and selflessly. But, as history shows, that kind of resistance to fascism was not present everywhere. Several European states did not rebuff the Third Reich. After all, the war and its losses might have been avoided if it werent for multiple European states supporting and fighting on the side of Hitlers regime. Some ...

Entry from: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Entry Title: "Rio de Janeiro" Entry: "DAY 12 13 February 2010 Rio tour of Cristo Redentor, Tijuca, Favela. We set off at 8.30 with Ecologia and Cultuura Jeep Tours. We met an older couple from England Roger and Jenny. It was fun to share with another great couple. We made our way in the open air jeep to Christ the redeemer early as there were 3 ships docked and later on in the day there would have been a queue but as it turned out we missed it. We walked straight through made our way up the elevator and were welcomed by an open armed Christ at the top. Made from sand whale oil and sugar then covered with tiny sand stone triangles to protect this old style cement this towering idle stands with out stretched arms. A top the 710m high peak known as Corovado (Hunchback) which is interesting to me as it is believed that Christ was a hunchback. Most people are unaware the image that we idealise as Christ comes from the Turin shroud which is also believed was a cloth used to cover the French grand master Jacques de Molay of the Templar knights whom was crucified then later burned at the stake in 1307 Friday October 13th known to us as black Friday. Ironically the hands and face of Christ Redentor were sculpted by the a French artist. Not sure what all this means but ...

Not some general concepts. DMITRY MEDVEDEV: Of course participating in the CIS remains important for us. I do not idealise the Commonwealth -- no one does and today we had quite frank and sometimes even harsh discussions on this topic, but this is a good thing. There is no other forum where we can discuss these issues. Other than the integration processes taking place within the EurAsEC, then the CIS is the only forum, the only one where leaders meet. As to the missing heads of state, this is explained by circumstances. As far as I understand Ukraine simply is living through another governance and parliamentary crisis and Azerbaijan will hold elections in a few days so their position is understandable. I therefore hope that in the future our colleagues will participate as they did before. The discussion was useful. Many things were not only useful but also interesting for me because I am attending ...

  • Wind- Akeboshi Wind-Akeboshi Lyrics: Cultivate your hunger before you idealize. Motivate your anger to make them all realize. Climbing the mountain, never coming down. Break into the contents, never falling down. My knee is still shaking, like I was twelve, Sneaking out of the classroom, by the back door. A man railed at me twice though, but I didn't care. Waiting is wasting for people like me. Don't try to live so wise. Don't cry 'cause you're so right. Don't dry with fakes or fears, 'Cause you will hate yourself in the end. (Repeats) You say, "Dreams are dreams. "I ain't gonna play the fool anymore." You say, "'Cause I still got my soul." Take your time, baby, your blood needs slowing down. Breach your soul to reach yourself before you gloom. Reflection of fear makes shadows of nothing, shadows of nothing. You still are blind, if you see a winding road, 'Cause there's always a straight way to the point you see. Don't try to live so wise. Don't cry 'cause you're so right. Don't dry with fakes or fears, 'Cause you will hate yourself in the end. (Repeats)

The main European integration was the signing of a European agreement on coal and steel. Since then European countries have celebrated 9 May as a holiday for all our countries. On 9 May we were in Moscow, we could not have been in Paris, Brussels or Luxembourg. Mr Barroso and I would like to say that we brought the feelings that we feel on our holiday on 9 May here, to Moscow. And this is of course a holiday for Europe. And now 9 May is a joint holiday for Europe and Russia. Perhaps it is not a honeymoon, but it is a day of great love. Thank you. QUESTION: Mr President, we have just celebrated the 60th anniversary of victory. All the heads of state who were present here talked about how this was a genuinely great victory and how important it was that we vanquished ***sm. But in some countries, not only are there marches by ***s, but the organisers of the Holocaust, condemned decades ago by the entire world, are behaving as if they were heroes. Did your negotiating partners raise this issue at all, perhaps on their own initiative, or did you raise this question? My second question is for the European Union representatives. Not in any European ...

  • KOREAN Anti-Protestantism demonstration On July 19th, 23 South Korean citizens were kidnapped in Kabul, Afghanistan. Many South Koreans were shocked and anxiously followed the situation. However, they became furious due to several complications and dilemmas in the process of dealing with the situation as well as the sacrifices caused by this no-win situation. This was brought about by Sam-Mool, a Protestant church in South Korea, which arranged 'missionary work' in a hazardous area through their 'one nation public welfare organization. South Korean Protestantism has become addicted to its own dogma, which singles out 'missionary work' for its top priority whilst ignoring the international context. Unsurprisingly, their ignorance of the target country resulted in an uncontrollable incident. This type of missionary work has already been abolished by some Protestant churches. According to a daily newspaper, this was an accident, which followed the old American mission method from the 19th century for unilateral, conquering, self-praising missionary work. Even though Sam-Mool claimed that their missionary work was voluntary work in order to protect the hostages and themselves from public criticism and also from danger, the majority of the public with an endless supply of digital information did not believe them. We had seen those images and videos on the internet which contain an application form for short missionary work and their 'Jesus' preaching in Korean before the children of Afghanistan. However, Sam-Mool ...

First, the question of fiscal measures relating to the current situation, support for energy companies and for long-term and expensive projects. You know, this question is something every country will have to decide for itself. On the one hand, these days almost every country is afraid to lower taxes. On the contrary, they are more likely inclined to raising certain charges, including mineral resources royalties, as well as customs duties and certain types of tax, because they are afraid that their tax base will collapse. There is actually a real risk of this, because if you consider our situation, the situation in Russia, our tax base has contracted sharply. Unfortunately this is a fact. On the other hand, there is the danger of driving business into a corner. And if they make decisions that result in a tax increase - and in some situations simply not lowering taxes would be tantamount to an increase, especially when large or important upscale projects are at stake then we will in effect be suspending business development for the next decade. This is a very difficult balancing act, one of the most difficult things a state has to do, to determine with total accuracy how to act in such circumstances. We in ...
