Hythe Ferry Pier Railway and Beaulieu Monorail In this video we visit 2 very electric unusual railways, both in Hampshire! We start with a trip on the 2 gauge Hythe Ferry Pier Railway, which runs along a Victorian Pier, taking passengers to the ferry which operates a service across the harbour to Southampton. This is the worlds oldest continually working pier train. The trains are hauled by either one of the lines 1917 Brush electric locos works No. 1 & No. 2, acquired from the Avonmouth Mustard Gas Factory, Bristol who had used them during the Great War. The line is electrified at 250 volts DC. Then we go to Beaulieu, home of The National Motor Museum, where a take a trip on the Monorail, which takes us through The National Motor Museum, and looking down we can see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! Lineside at the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway During my holiday to Kent in August 2007, I visited the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway. On the Monday I had a few rides on the 13 and 1/2 mile line, but Tuesday and mainly Thursday evening I went lineside and filmed some of the engines at work!

Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway The Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway is Kent's mainline in minature. First opened to traffic in July 1927 as the 'World's Smallest Public Railway' and now covering a distance of 13.5 miles from the picturesque Cinque Port of Hythe, near the channel tunnel, to the fishermans cottages and lighthouses at Dungeness.

Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway - featuring 4 The Bug - 19/02/09 A visit to the 15 inch gauged Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway mainly to capture No. 4 The Bug working passenger trains, something that it doesn't do very often. The day was mainly spent linesiding around the New Romney area, firstly at the A259 bridge/newly opened Romney Warren Halt, where Nos. 3 Southern Maid, 11 Black Prince and 4 The Bug are seen, then around New Romney station area, where Nos 6 Samson, 3 Southern Maid and 4 The Bug are seen. As No. 4 The Bug was operating passenger trains between New Romney and Romney Warren Halt, I decided to purchase a ticket for the last shuttle train of the day, the 15:00 service from New Romney to Romney Warren Halt. During the outward journey, No. 6 Samson is passed, shortly before arrival, then departure from Romney Warren Halt, which had only opened the previous Monday. Arrival back at New Romney sees The Bug run round the shuttle trip coaches, in order to shunt the stock into a siding. No. 3 Southen Maid then arrives with a Hythe bound service, however the 4-6-2 would come off at New Romney in favour of German-built No. 11 Black Prince. Loco changes usually take place at New Romney on trains that are bound for Hythe. The Bug is then seen shunting No. 7 Typhoon towards the shed, shortly before No. 11 Black Prince departs for Hythe. As the last coaches of Black Prince's train dissapear from view, The Bug reappears having taken Typhoon to the shed.

Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway - shunting This didn't start out to be a video about shunting it just sort of happened - I arrived somewhat earlier than expected to find Northern Chief in the car park being coaled up - and was somewhat intrigued by the number of moves it had to make to collect the carriages. After a return trip to Hythe Northern Chief was replaced by Samson on the train. Hurricane and Capt JEP Howey make short appearances. Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway - Steam & Diesel Gala, 04/10/09 A video from the 15inch gauge Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway in Kent, which held a Steam & Diesel Gala over the weekend of Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October 2009. The video is from the Sunday. Locos Nos. 1 Green Goddess, 2 Northern Chief, 3 Southern Maid, 6 Samson, 7 Typhoon, 8 Hurricane, 9 Winston Churchill, 11 Black Prince and 14 Captain Howey were all in action on the 4th, working the very intensive timeable. I visited two areas on the RH&DR, the area around Botolphs Bridge Level Crossing (near Hythe) and Britannia Points (Dungeness). The Sunday featured a parallel run, which is seen at the very start. I was hoping the two trains, headed by Typhoon and Black Prince, would draw level with each other before Botolphs Bridge Level Crossing. Sadly, this was not the case and the two were level just a few metres behind me. A few photos @

Hythe Venetian Fete 2009 This year's Venetian Fete attracted record crowds to the banks of the town's Royal Military C***, thanks to some glorious sunshine. The biennial event can trace its history back to 1860 and features a daylight and night time parade of decorated floats,with a fireworks display inbetween.
