  • Reflux Laryngitis: The Typical Laryngeal Endoscopy Appearance Laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPR) or so-called reflux laryngitis is a condition whereby there is inflammation of the laryngeal and pharyngeal mucosa caused by acids derived from the stomach. It differs from gastroesophageal reflux as it can also occur in upright position and silently without the typical symptoms of reflux oesophagitis like epigastric pain, heartburn, or waterbrash (sudden soury taste in the throat). Its typical symptoms include feeling of a lump in the throat (globus sensation), frequent throat irritations with throat clearing acts, and unexplained coughs. Voice change occurs in fluctuating manners. Rarely, it can result in subglottic stenosis if undiagnosed over prolonged period. It is important to recognize it clinical appearance on laryngeal examination. This video shows a 70 degrees endoscopic finding of the larynx in a patient with reflux laryngitis. The arytenoids mucosa were inflamed and oedematous. Its posterior surface and the interarytenoids were hyperplastic giving the corrugated appearance. There was also early vocal fold nodules . The subglottic region was normal. The patient was given proton-pump inhibitor medications and speech therapy sessions.

  • Discus as a Freshman at KSC (Spring 2008) For some reason I neglected to put any of these up last year when they were fresh results, which is weird considering what a great season it was... Whatever. I know most of what I was doing wrong and am still working on it, but if you feel the insatiable need to comment, it couldn't hurt; maybe I'll learn something new. I decided to put something interesting up for the last few tags... Only a few people will know what it means, but we'll see if it gets any responses.
