Entry: "Especially when it goes by the name of Valparaiso, known to locals as "Valpo" - a place that contrasts greatly with the middle class Californian-esque vibe of Santiago, and is all the more charming because of it. After arriving from a 2 hour bus ride through lush valleys and winding hillsides sporting just-harvested vines, we chugged our way into Valpo´s sleepy Sunday afternoon ambience and hot footed it up to the hills. This area is known for its silversmiths, hippies, travellers and relaxed, bohemian energy. Graffiti - good graffiti - adorns the colourful walls and corrugated iron buildings, many feature peeling paint and bare rusting facades to add to the whole weather beaten feel of the town. Its gorgeous - sunny and sleepy and serene in an entirely understated, couldn´t care less way. A little like the people who live here. Last night, after a couple of cheeky piscos at a bizarre, sea facing hotel with Alice in Wonderland style floors and a garish orange exterior, we wandered around the many lanes and alleys that comprise this quirky district and found Vanilo ' - something of an institution and known for its Chilean fare. Entry from: Puerto Escondido, Mexico Entry Title: "The Pacific Coast" Entry: "After having been land locked for quite some time, the urge for the beach was all too much for Katy and we night bused it from the capital south to Puerto Escondido. I'd already been there 13 years (!) ago but just for an afternoon. As I remember, it wasn't all that great and at that time we hot-footed it to the Caribbean. However this time, we'd heared too many good things from fellow travellers and so decided to take another look. Twelve long hours on a thankfully very comfortable coach later, we stepped out into the hot and humid air of the unmistakeable coast and exhausted, plonked ourselves on the beach for the day. We stayed in the 'Tower Bridge Hotel' run by a mad Englishman, Steve, who was never there to meet anyone and show them to their rooms but who always appeared before they left to be paid. We were shown to our room by an English couple who were guests there - Harriet and Adam (later to become friends) and we showed the next guests - Aussies, Steve and Lauren (also to become friends) to theirs. And that's how the London Bridge Hotel gets by - on the generosity of fellow travellers who know what it is like to fall off a night bus shattered and turn up to a pre booked hotel with noone there to check you in ...

- Birds With Ears - Head In My Bag Formed in 1980 when the five members were all students at the Art College and Sus*** Uni, they developed a post-punk funk sound around a tight rhythm section: Smiths sneering, theatrical vocals and music teacher Billy Cowies imaginative keyboard arrangements. With influences from afar as Viv Stanshall, 60s west coast r & b and poltico-dance bands like The Gang Of Four and Pigbag, Birds With Ears originally had two vocalists, one of them a female. She was Laurie Morris, who left the band in late 1980. Around the time their bizarre Head In My Bag was included on the final Attrix compilation album Vaultage 80 When the Chefs hot-footed it up to the big smoke in the new year of 1981, Attrix Records saw Birds With Ears as their salvation and risked all by funding an entire album, which was full of songs about cannibalism, grave-robbing, decapitation and, er, Danny Kaye. You can figure out right away (from the lack of fart jokes or other visual tripserkery that this is a Chris sketch. There is dialogue... and more dialogue... and more dialogue. This has to be the biggest 'talkie' sketch we have done to date. All in all, after it is said is done the joke is so obscure that no one except about 4 people will get the closing joke. That's it... 4 people. It is a reference to a sketch that Chris did in Sniffles(Sniff!). You may notice that the background (while we are in the truck) changes a little too drastically from shot to shot. We weren't really looking for continuity... oh well. We shot part of this at a local Jack in the Box in Cleburne. If you watch the guy in the background as I come and sit down, in the next shot he is gone. I think he figured out what was going on and hot footed it out.
- A Blustery Half Hour On The Bedford Sub - December 12, 2009 After visiting a friend of the family (Moirs Mills) at 12:50, I went as far as the Bedford Ultramar, rather than take a chance on missing the VIA and go to Mile 7. So I set up the tripod, and after being there for 5 minutes and seeing nothing, I wondered if it were in the hole, for the late 120 to pass. Sure enough, at 1:00 I heard 120 blow for the crossing just below Sunnyside, I guess you could call it...LUCK ;). Anyway, she was only hauling 82 cars, and therefore only needed 3 units for power: 2660, 2535, & 8008. After that cleared outta the way, I hot-footed it down to Millview, of course we beat the tail end of 120, and there in the hole was 6400 & 6418 with 9 Budd Cars in tow, unfortunately due to battery issuees, I had to settle for a shot with no tripod :( Enjoy!

We decided on one on the outskirts of the town and as we got settled we realised that we needed a supermarket, so at 7pm, we hot-footed it back to the town center to gather supplies. Napier is named the Art Deco city due to the architecture in town, the buildings are incredibly well looked after and it feels like stepping back in time. Every year in feb there is a festival where people dress in 1920s fashion and all the vintage cars get an airing - it looks fabulous but unfortunately we will be long gone by then. Instead we spent the day on a self-directed walking tour of the architecture finished of with a round of crazy golf - think it is one of the hardest courses we had ever played and I would love to say that I beat kev but alas it would be a lie!" TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™. Pc_out_there's travel blog entry: "Happy Christmas (that's if you read this before the 25th!) if not Happy New Year!!! We have just spent the last 10 days touring Tasmania and had a really good time. Heres my notes on our time in Tas..... Blogs will return to their usual boring story format in the New Year! Day 1 After getting over the shock of a twenty degree temperature drop compared to Ayers Rock, we hot footed it to our local Hertz to butter them up for a nice hire car. Despite all my best sucking up, we ended up with a 1.6 Hyundai Getz Automatic....Buggar or thats what we initially thought.... First port of call on the tour was the penal colony of Port Arthur where it was too cold to even think about walking round the open air buildings....we're such good weather tourists!! Next up was the historical town of Richmond where we took photos of a bridge built in the 19th century by some convicts and were attacked by some crazy geese (see photo) We tested Gerty's (nickname for the Getz) performance and ripped it up to Coles Bay where we would stay the night. Entry from: Auckland, New Zealand Entry Title: "Touchdown in Niew Zeeland" Entry: "After a rather long day I touched down safely in New Zealand - yippee! It was an early start, as after checking out of my guesthouse I raced straight down to the embassy to collect my lovely new passport (stuck with the same hairdo for the next 10 years, ho hum). From there I needed to visit the local immigration bureau in order to get an entry stamp re-issued on my new passport - or I could say goodbye to any chance of being on my NZ flight later that night. So I hot-footed it across Tokyo to join the throng of other falang who needed some correction to their travel documents. Thankfully it was all pretty straightforward, so after a bit of hanging around I got my stamp and had the rest of the afternoon to myself. Decided I may as well check out the oldest temple in Japan, situated in Asakusa, and it was worth the effort, although I then had a manic rush to the train station to make my airport express! Nothing like leaving things to the last minute to make it more exhilirating. Had a couple of scares while checking in; that seemed to take ages but apparently was only caused by my having an onward connection through Brisbane. Passport control was much more nerve racking, as the officer checking my passport was a tad ...

- US vs Iran pt2 Originally published in Diverse News #10 Autumn 1998 Sport Billy Jenkins vs Orquestra Mahatama at TJ's Woolwich on the occasion of the Iran vs USA World Cup match Sunday 21 June 1998. Ben Watson reports. SINCE the sole basis for scientific musical criticism is the socio-musicology of Theodor W. Adorno, the news that Billy Jenkins had organised a gig to coincide with the Iran versus USA World Cup football match immediately had this critic scanning the august dialectician's essay The Schema Of Mass Culture for hot tips. There Adorno writes: 'Sportification' has played its part in the dissolution of aesthetic semblance. Sport is the imageless counterpart to practical life. And the more aesthetic images participate in this imagelessness, the more they turn into a form of sport themselves. The Frankfurter's words coursed like mustard through my veins! Having long deemed Billy Jenkins a bulwark of obdurate resistance to 'sportification' - the reduction of jazz musicianship to competitive virtuosity, the reduction of popular entertainment to competitive chart-placings - his choice of gig intrigued me. Refusing the ivory-tower idealism which allows certain (self-professed) Adornians to ignore popular culture in favour of replaying old albums by Anton Webern, and instead adhering to a dialectical materialism that insists that only interaction with the world can tell us about it, I hot-footed it to Woolwich. Alighting at the Cyprus stop-off point on the Docklands Light Railway, I ...
