  • 87% off electric heat bill: REALLY saving energy http I made this video to augment my article "REALLY Saving Energy with The Heat Bubble: how I cut 87% off of my electric heat by heating the person instead of the whole house". This is a DIY alternative form of energy conservation Camille Pearl comes over to my house and tests my energy saving theories for herself. We start off stripping off her clothes that are more than just a single, normal layer people might wear in a fully heated area. Then we have her stand in the cool area until she feels too cold, then move her to the desk with the micro personal heaters. It was in this video where Camille first refers to this as a "bubble." And now, that's what we call this technique: "a heat bubble". She starts off too cold, and then spends 30 minutes at the heated desk area. At the end of the 30 minutes she is fully warmed up and feels like she could work there indefinitely. We then turn off the micro heat and see how long she can hold out until she feels too cold to keep working. About three minutes and ten seconds. Quick summary of micro heaters: 40 watts: incandescent light bulb in a chick brooder configuration 25 watts: heated keyboard 15 watts: dog bed heater / heating pad 2.5 watts: heated mouse 82.5 watts total. A homemade approach to save the environment. Alternatives are sources for home production. This may be a big boost to renewable energy efforts. • Solar Home Heating Heat your house with solar thermal (hot water) collectors. You can buy them, I made my own. There are 3 in this arrangement. 1 square foot of collector heats 1 1/2 US gallons of water 40 degrees farenheit in Pennsylvania, USA in winter. The more collectors you put up the more water volume you can heat. Most people use one of these collectors for domestic hot water, showers, etc. I used mine to heat my house. Of course insulate well first, then see if you can use this. You'll need to add radiant floor heat system to get heat out of tank. It all cost about $2000 in materials, 3 x 4' x 10' collectors, tank, fittings, pipe, differential thermostat, pump, insulation, collector box, etc. This system would be great for heating greenhouses thru the winter, almost free, once the up-front costs are met. tonyfixit.

  • Homemade Swimming Pool Solar Heating System I've uploaded this for interest only. I'm not advocating doing it like this or making any statement of suitability. Don't make or use anything like this unless you take full responsibility for health and safety. I'm not taking responsibility for your actions and I sure don't want anyone interferring in my actions on the basis of freedom destroying nanny state health and safety. If you don't like it then don't use it! The main issue is the use of normal garden hose. I am taking the view that I am heating a pool which is filled with fresh water and will be emptied after the season. The water is circulated through the hose only a limited number of times over the season, is raised in temperature only a few degrees during normal use and is not actively drunk. It is, after all, the same water you use to water your vegetables with. It is important to use matt black paint to maximise the radiant heat capture. There is a noticeable increase in the pool temperature using these panels and turns swimming in it into a pleasurable experience. If you slow the flow rate down and fill a bucket with it on a sunny day you'll see just how much heat is being added. It's quite easy to reach temperatures you could bathe or shower in. Each panel is probably the equivalent of a kettle continually heating water all day long - and that would be very expensive! I run it at a reasonable flow rate so that the temperature at the return is raised to tepid. This reduces stress on the hose. There is no ...

  • Geothermal Heating Welcome to Ingram's Water and Air Equipment! We will introduce you to geothermal systems and technology, with which you could enjoy the natural warmness of the earth for your home heating and cooling purposes, and do so very economically. Geothermal heat pumps are environmentally friendly, using the earth's even temperature and renewable energy as the source for controlling heating and air conditioning. Unlike a conventional system, geothermal pump systems mainly utilize the earth's warmth for heating and cooling your home. One of the prime benefits associated with its usage is that it helps to lower energy consumption and reduce costs by up to 50%. An added benefit to a geothermal system is that there is no need for separate equipment in order to cool your home. Prolonged operating intervals, gradual and even distribution of heat, zero greenhouse gas emissions, and improved interior comfort are the other significant benefits of using geothermal systems. Let us see how a geothermal system works! The system extracts heat from the ground during winter and puts it back into the ground during summer. For the functioning of all types of geothermal systems, three major components are necessary: ground loop, a heat pump furnace unit, and a distribution system. The ground loop system involves a chain of high density polyethylene pipes, all of which are buried in the home's yard, and its primary function is to collect heat from soil underneath the frost line. Depending upon your ...

  • CRETE-HEAT INSULATED FLOOR PANEL SYSTEMS The Crete-Heat Insulated Floor Panel System is an easily assembled modular board insulation, vapor barrier, and radiant tube holding grid. It allows for simplified installation of hydronic radiant floor heating systems in basements, garages, main floor slab on grade and above grade installations where concrete or gypcrete is normally used. Each interlocking panel, available in either 1 inch or 2 inch thicknesses of Expanded Polystyrene, covers up to 8 square feet with fasteners for 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" and 7/8" radiant tubing. A 10-mil High Impact Polystyrene film thermoformed on to the EPS Foam provides the vapor barrier. Visit www.crete- for further information. Proudly made in the USA. *****ADDITIONAL NOTES REGARDING VIDEO***** Laying of the panels showing the ship-lap interlock backwards was due to a last minute request to videotape. Some of the panels were taken up to begin videotaping that segment again and the panels were from the end of the building where the last panels were installed, resulting in what showed the ship-lap being backwards.Proper install is with the male half of the ship-lap facing upwards and the female portion connecting into it as the panels are installed. First time users loved this product. The project called for 2" of insulation but the Crete-Heat Panels, which were donated for this job, were only available at the time in 1", so the other 1" insulation was used underneath to obtain the 2" overall thickness.
