  • Owosso - Great Lakes Central Railroad Passenger Train (GLC) (TSBY) The Owosso-headquartered Great Lakes Central Railroad (The GLC) - another Owosso, Michigan, gem. This short video was taken during a casino excursion/fall color tour from Owosso north to Mt. Pleasant (Soaring Eagle Casino), north to Clare, and back to Owosso on Saturday, October 18, 2008. The video begins inside the train's last passenger car and it weaves its way to the front of the first car of the train. The first two cars of the train behind the engines are just two units of Great Lakes Central Railroad's fifty-seven unit fleet of double-decker commuter rail passenger cars. The train is being pulled by two 2500 horsepower GMTX diesel locomotives. The combination of on-time performance, magnificent flora, fall colors, Midwestern cropland, dozens of appearances of deer - some even running alongside the train, 363 happy and fun-loving passengers, plus the super-professional GLC crew, made it a wonderful day. On the trip north, an ultralight plane flew to the side and above the train for several miles. As nighttime fell during the trip south, a track-side homeowner greeted the train with three skyrockets. During the entire trip passengers were also greeted by well-wishers waving from farms, fields, roads, and through windows of their cars, trucks, vans, homes and offices. It was another beautiful, fun, safe and well-organized trip on the Great Lakes Central Railroad. There is always something fun happening in Owosso!

Nagoya (名古屋市, Nagoya-shi?) is the fourth-largest city in Japan. Located on the Pacific coast in the Chūbu region on central Honshū, it is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and is one of Japan's major ports along with those of Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama, Chiba, and Hakata. It is also the center of Japan's third largest metropolitan region, known as the Chūkyō Metropolitan Area. As of 2000, Chūkyō Metropolitan Area has 8.74 million people, of which 2.17 million live in the city of Nagoya. In 1610, Tokugawa Ieyasu moved the capital of Owari province from Kiyosu around seven kilometers to a more strategic location in present-day Nagoya. A new large castle, Nagoya Castle, was constructed partly from materials sourced from Kiyosu Castle. Along with the construction, the entire town of around 60000 people, including the temples and shrines, moved from Kiyosu to the new planned town around Nagoya Castle.[2] Around the same time not far away, the ancient Atsuta Shrine was designated as a way station called Miya (the Shrine) on the important Tōkaidō that linked the two capitals of Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo). The town thus developed around the temple to support travelers. The combination of these two castle and shrine towns forms what we now call Nagoya. Through the following years Nagoya became an industrial hub for the surrounding region. Its ...

  • Owosso - 1225 Steam Engine Train - North Chipman Street Crossing One of the jewels of the Owosso, Michigan-based Steam Railroading Institute: the 1225 steam engine locomotive and tender - weighing in at 800000 pounds - more than the maximum takeoff weights of one B-52 bomber and eight F-16 fighters combined. In this video, you are initially looking southeast. The smoke from the 1225 can first be seen as the train weaves its way into the Westown district of Owosso. As the train turns the corner and heads northwest towards you, it is entering what were yards of the New York Central Railroad. To the left was a freight warehouse and station, and to the right was the massive Owosso Manufacturing Company that later became the Mitchell-Bentley Corporation. As recently as the mid-1950's, the freight yards were full of switches, sidings, rolling stock and both diesel and steam engines. It was at this site in Owosso, the hometown of Thomas E. Dewey, that John F. Kennedy gave one of his memorable, and at times humor-tinged, speeches during the 1960 presidential campaign. Today the old Mitchell-Bentley building and headquarters are long gone; new facilities were built across the street. The freight station, warehouse, switches and sidings have also been removed leaving just one basically north-south track. However, business is booming again. The single track is now owned by the Great Lakes Central Railroad, which is headquartered on the other side of Owosso in facilities that were previously regional maintenence yards of the Ann Arbor Railroad ...

LINK: Motown is a record label that was originally founded by Berry Gordy, Jr. and incorporated as Motown Record Corporation in Detroit, Michigan, USA, on April 14, 1960. The name, a portmanteau of motor and town, is also a nickname for Detroit. Now headquartered in New York City, Motown is a subsidiary of Universal Motown Republic Group, itself a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, and now operates as Universal Motown Records. Motown Records was also the name of Gordy's second record label; the first, Tamla Records, began on January 12, 1959. Motown played an important role in the racial integration of popular music, as it was the first record label owned by an African American to primarily feature African-American artists who achieved crossover success. In the 1960s, Motown and its soul-based subsidiaries were the most successful proponents of what came to be known as The Motown Sound, a style of soul music with a distinct pop influence. Berry Gordy got his start as a songwriter for local Detroit acts such as Jackie Wilson and The Matadors. Wilson's single "Lonely Teardrops", written by Gordy, became a huge success; however, Gordy did not feel he made as much money as he deserved from this and other singles he wrote for Wilson. He realized that the more lucrative end of the business ...

Although Chatham House events are known to attract the great and the good of Englands political, financial, and academic elites — as well as many of its top media representatives — there has been virtually no word as to what Brzezinski had to say in any of the worlds press. This is but the latest example of the hermetic seal known as the Chatham House Rule, which states: When a meeting, or part thereof, is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed. Chatham House, in St. James Square, London, is the headquarters of the powerful Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), founded in 1920 as the principal front organization of the secret Round Table network of Cecil Rhodes, famous for his fabulous wealth from Africas gold and diamond mines. The RIIA was founded in conjunction with its sister organization in the United States, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is headquartered at the Pratt House in New York. Pratt House also has formally adopted the Chatham House Rule, as has the US State Department (which has been ...
