  • 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' cover I AM A GIRL!!! For those of you who are curious, I sing it higher than Gordon because I am a girl so please don't comment that I have a "girly" voice....I know I do. Thanks for your understanding. Originally done by Gordon Lightfoot. Requested by Elaine. Aplogies for any mistakes. The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead When the skies of November turn gloomy. With a load of iron ore - 26000 tons more Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed When the gales of November came early The ship was the pride of the American side Coming back from some mill in Wisconson As the big freighters go it was bigger than most With a crew and the Captain well seasoned. Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms When they left fully loaded for Cleveland And later that night when the ships bell rang Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling. The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the Captain did, too, T'was the witch of November come stealing. The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait When the gales of November came slashing When afternoon came it was freezing rain In the face of a hurricane West Wind When supper time came the old cook came on deck Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya At 7PM a main hatchway caved in He said fellas it's been good to know ya. He wouldn't get in there until we were up to altitude, and then you could rotate that and you could get in there and close the hatchway, and he'd be in there all by himself, but he would have radio contact with the rest of us. He also had an electric flying suit. He also had breathing oxygen. In the event that the electricity was out, and he couldn't maneuver this thing, couldn't turn it around, there's a little crank; you could pull on this post here, and people up here could crank him around."

  • Minecraft Launchpad Test -Yes we know, it's in the shape of a swastika, whoop de doo. Contrary to popular beliefs we are not ***s. Just thought I'd clear that up.- Using the stuff I've learned from watching cannons being built on Youtube and also from building my own, I decided to make a simple launchpad. It's really simple. Just make sure that once the TNT blocks are activated the water can flow back in, or you'll blow up your entire pad. 4 TNT doesn't launch you that high, but then I upgraded to 8 TNT. I might try (edit: look at next video) to make it possible for 16. To avoid fall damage, just move forward into the water (if you build yours in a location like mine). I'm sure people have done this before, but I've never seen it and wanted a simple design. This could be used to launch yourself up a hatchway if you had a house up there in the sky. Only risk---you could miss the hole. :P Also, because of the compact design, be really careful when loading to not step on the pressure plate, because it'll activate any TNT already placed. I'm working on making this design more powerful so that you can launch yourself in more than one direction.

She was spooked at 4 mins 10secs by my wife switching on the radio downstairs & then at 4 min 13secs the radio made a series of short bleeps which sent her running for a safe zone, I can't make out the radio on the camera sound track, but I heard it at time as I was sat next to the hatchway, just shows how well they can hear!! Next test will be to try her again in 4 weeks time, lever will be stored away till then.

  • The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Gordon Lightfoot - Lyric change Gordon Lightfoot at the Palace Theatre in Greensburg, PA June 16, 2010 Interesting note: In 2010, Lightfoot changed one line in the lyrics of the song as a result of recent findings that it was waves and not crew error that led to the shipwreck. At seven PM a main hatchway caved in; he said, (*2010 lyric change: At 7 pm, it grew dark, it was then he said,) "Fellas, it's bin good t'know ya!" It is funny, I did notice the words were different when he sang this song last night. Read this article for more information: Enjoyed the show! We had awesome seats in the front row! • The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald A tribute to the 29 men who died November 10, 1975, aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior. ---- Announcer (0:04): An air and sea search is continuing for possible survivors of the Edmund Fitzgerald, a 729 foot ore carrier, which apparently broke apart and sunk last night on Lake Superior. The ship and its 29-man crew vanished in a storm with 80 mile-an-hour winds and wave heights up to 25 feet. All that has been found is an oil slick and some debris. -- song begins at 0:17 -- Radio Transmission (3:11): "We last had contact with 'em, the mate had talked to him ... at about 10 minutes after 7, 19:10, and he said he was going along fine and no problem." -- Radio Transmission (3:21): "But it looks from the information that we have that it's, uh, fairly certain that the, uh, Fitzgerald went down." -- Radio Transmission (4:04): "Uh, no, I didn't have him, uh, visually, I had him on radar; he was, uh, exactly 10 miles ahead of us. I asked him how he was making out with his problems and he said he was holding his own, but I, uh, lost contact after that." ---- Lyrics: The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they called "Gitche Gumee" The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead when the skies of November turn gloomy With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty, that big ship and true was a bone to be chewed when the Gales of November came early The ship was the pride of the American side coming back ...

  • Woburn Street & The Alameda - A Tour Around the Streets of Ampthill WOBURN STREET was once known as Mill Street, the local rope makers having a horse-powered mill here at one time. Beneath the great, empty wrought-iron sign bracket (numbers 1 &3), is another of the town's coaching inns, formerly the Kings Head, previously the Swan, refronted in about 1734 and since 1948 used as offices. Behind number 6 was a workhouse, built in 1729 and in operation until 1795. John Wills, who was in charge in 1772, was allowed £230 a year out of the rates for bedding, clothing and food for the inmates quite a sum. A successor workhouse, the House of Industry, was built in 1811 on Park Hill (where the wooden houses stand and was the scene of serious rioting in May, 1835, when new poor law regulations were brought into force. The rioting, which had started in Lidlington and Millbrook when payments previously made were withheld, moved to the Market Square and continued until police were brought from London (no Bedfordshire force in those days) and the militia called out and held in readiness at Luton. By the late 18th century the upper parts of Wobum Street were known as Slutts End. Even so, the Methodists were happy to build a chapel behind what is now number 29, in 1813. It was an imposing building with an interior compared by one who knew it to the hatchway of a ship. 470 worshippers could be accommodated in an incredibly restricted building. Opposite the old chapel, which was pulled down soon after its congregation moved to their new building in ...
