  • I Love My Bipolar Hallucinations In speaking with several authorities, there is great confusion as to what role hallucinations and delusions play in bipolar, depression, and even schizophrenia. The definitions of schizoaffective, psychosis, and schizophrenia are very confusing and incredibly similar. Because of my diagnosis of bipolar and the fact that I have hallucinations and delusions, I have been diagnosed as bipolar I schizoaffective. Adding to the confusion, there are other people with minor states of hypomania that are also considered bipolar I schizoaffective. Even though we don't necessarily share the same intensity of our manic experiences, we are diagnosed the same simply because we share hallucinations. While I dont have a definitive answer for the confusion, it is important to look at how we think about these issues. While I recognize delusions and hallucinations as symptoms of my condition, is disorganized speech just a reaction to them? Sometimes when I hallucinate, I find it very difficult to remain coherent. However, I have been highly praised for public speaking while hallucinating, so perhaps it is indeed just a reaction. It is understandable how speaking or organizational skills could easily be compromised when trying to sort out hallucinations or delusions from shared reality. Although most people who experience delusions and hallucinations react to them in negative ways, it seems that the definition may be creating a false linkage. It could be that ...

  • Psychology of Belief, Part 6: Hallucinations Hearing voices: It's not just for schizophrenics any more! Hallucination is a relatively common phenomenon. Virtually all of us will, at one point or another, experience sensory perceptions generated entirely out of our own minds. Sadly, some people are more prone to this than others, and it is entirely within reason that every spiritual experience in human history is attributable to auditory, visual, and tactile hallucinations. Anywhere between 1-2 % of the human population hears voices on a regular basis. Sometimes the voices say encouraging things. Sometimes the voices are derogatory and vicious. Other times they speak nonsense. Occasionally they are even capable of full conversations. Sometimes the voices are audible. Sometimes they are like loud thoughts. Other times they are like severe, intrusive urges. Sometimes the voices are a blessing in the life of the hearer. Other times the voices are a nuisance. Some people cope by taking drugs. Others cope by asserting dominance with the voices. Some have even developed bizarre coping mechanisms like having "voice time" or simply repeating everything the voices say back at them. In short, if you think you have heard the voice of God. You probably have not.
  • Holy Hallucinations 2 This is a response to mysticalforest's video "Atheism And Evolution Go Hand In Hand." You can see the original at: MF (unfortunate acronym!) claims that recent work suggesting that birds may not have evolved from theropod dinosaurs proves that evolution is false. Unfortunately, he "research" seems to have involved solely reading what AIG has to say on the matter (garbage in, garbage out). The fact that the research only questions the details of actual route of bird evolution (via a possible common ancestor with theropods rather than direct lineage), and not the fact that they evolved from earlier, non-avian life-forms seems not to have made it into his video. What is interesting is that these researchers speculate that the the raptors may have actually descended from early avians, rather than being bona fide theropods ie velociraptor may have been a bird! I find it personally exhilarating that science can and does change with the evidence as it converges upon the truth but find it equally frustrating that YECs such as MF try to proclaim that this is a weakness. A truth that sways in response to the breeze is infinitely more preferable to a falsehood that never bends. I also address his implication that the relatively recent rise of technology is evidence that man could not have evolved hundreds of thousands of years ago and therefore must have "appeared on the scene" relatively recently (presumably with a wave of a wand and a sprinkling of fairy dust ...

  • Holy Hallucinations This is a response to the video "THE BIG BANG THEORY IS MENTIONED IN THE QURAN 1400 YEARS AGO!!! MUST SEE!!!" by ***xhussam***X. You can see the original at: I felt I had to respond because I hate to see the products of great minds being used to justify religion and even to attempt to convert the innocent who do not know better. If you want to believe a fairy-tale then that is your prerogative, but at least have the decency to admit that you do so on faith and drop the pathetic attempts to make your choices seem more rational than they really are. • Hallucinations & Schizophrenia Extreme States of Mind Part 1 Be My Friend - Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologist discusses symptoms of severe mental states such as catatonia and hallucination. This is psychological view of schizophrenia. Are extreme states of mind like schizophrenia biological mental illnesses or psychological disorders? What is the best hope for recovery for someone suffering from such an extreme state of mind? Can these people be treated with psychology or do such states require psychiatry and medication? Often these states are drugged with antipsychotic medications such as Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Geodon, Haldol, Thorazine, Stelazine and Clozaril. All of these drugs are used to control symptoms only. They are not cure for mental disorders. They all have an unknown mechanism of action. Some have side effects and adverse events that can cause permanent neurological damage, movement disorders, diabetes, weight gain, impaired cognitive functioning.
