Secret Wars of the CIA: John Stockwell Lecture (Part 11) November 3, 1989 Watch the full film: The United States public debt is the sum of all securities issued by the United States Treasury and is also referred to as the national debt. State and Local Government Series securities are issued by state and local governments and are not part of the United States government debt. The national debt is presented by the United States Treasury as "Debt Held by the Public" which includes all debt instruments issued by the United States Treasury that are held by institutions outside the United States Government itself (specifically excluding intra-governmental obligations such as the Social Security Trust fund), and then the "Gross Debt" which is the sum of all securities issued by the United States Treasury including the intra-government obligations. At the end of first quarter of 2010, the gross debt was 87.3% of GDP (a measure of the size of the economy), composed of debt held by the public (56.6%) and of intra-governmental debt (44.4%). Within the remainder of this article the phrase "Public Debt" is employed as a shorthand for "Debt Held by the Public". The annual government deficit or surplus refers to the cash difference between government receipts and spending ignoring intra-governmental transfers. The gross debt increases or decreases as a result of this unified budget deficit or surplus. However, there is certain spending (supplemental appropriations) that add to the gross debt but ...

India Unveils Budget to Tackle Inflation and Governmental Corruption For more news visit ☛ India's finance minister unveils a budget designed to tackle corruption in government as well as reduce inflation. He says corruption is a problem the country must tackle collectively. India's finance minister presents the annual budget on Monday, amid mounting concerns over food inflation and a policy rift in the government. The minister has tried to ease inflation-hit voters' pain with a budget heavy on spending for food, fuel and fertilizer subsidies, while selectively lifting taxes to meet fiscal targets. On another front, the government's image has been severely tainted due to a spate of recent corruption scandals. The minister says regulatory and administration standards are not enough to support the rule of law. [Pranab Mukherjee, Indian Finance Minister] "Corruption is a problem that we have to fight collectively." The finance minister says that spiraling prices are a worry, despite a decrease in the inflation rate. India is in a bind over inflation, which has prompted street protests and drawn criticism from the opposition. [Pranab Mukherjee, Indian Finance Minister]: "The total food inflation declined from 20.2 percent in February 2010 to less than half, at 9.3 percent in January 2011. But it still remains a concern." Inflation, combined with a high fiscal deficit, has led the central bank to call for fiscal consolidation. Mukherjee says he expects the economy to grow 9 percent in the upcoming fiscal year, and for ...

I Do Not Support A New Investigation From user PimpinTurtleCom As Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Lieberman works hand in hand with Ranking Member Susan Collins, R-Me., to enact needed legislation and to oversee laws the two have successfully enacted in the past. Among the Constitution rewriting are the implementing the 9/11 Commission recommendations, including restructuring the intelligence community; reinventing FEMA after its disastrous response to Hurricane Katrina; strengthening port, transportation, and chemical security; and working to obtain more resources for our first responders, the men and women who are on the frontlines of the war on terror at home. Chairman (as in Chinese Socialist dictatorship) Lieberman AKA Chairman "Mao" will continue to examine the phenomenon of homegrown terrorism and violent Islamist radicalization, which was brought into sharp relief by the 2009 shootings at Fort Hood. He is working on legislation to better coordinate the security of government and private sector cyber networks. He is monitoring the extreme violence along the southern border and has closely overseen the government's efforts to prepare for and respond to pandemic diseases such as the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic. He is also working to pass legislation to strengthen the security of laboratories that use dangerous pathogens and to improve the security of chemical plants and industries that use dangerous chemicals. Bangladesh: Rights for Female Agricultural Workers - The Women at Karmojibi Nari Although almost two thirds of the laborers in Bangladesh work in agriculture, according to the Bangladeshi Labor Force Survey 2000, there is no minimum pay, no regulated access to health care, and no equal pay between men and women for them. Despite Bangladeshs largely agrarian economy and labor laws for industrial and governmental workers, agricultural workers have no legal support. Among them roughly half are women but they do 90% of the work says Rahela Rabbani, a project coordinator at the non-governmental organization Karmojibi Nari in Dhaka. As they are women their work doesnt count, she says. Often they are not paid in money but food. Karmojibi Nari, which means working women fights for a law for agricultural workers. Since 1991, Karmojibi Nari educates especially women who work in agriculture about womens rights, human rights, and the constitution because women are always less informed, says Karmojibi Nari General Secretary Shirin Akhter. After coming home from work, there is little time to obtain such information, she says. It is difficult to create an environment for them to learn in a male-dominated chauvinistic climate, she adds. Women dont feel supported. On one hand Karmojibi Nari lobbies at the political level to create a law, on the other hand its workers train women to organize themselves and to become leaders in their communities in four of the six administrative divisions of Bangladesh. They start on the grassroots level with small groups called cells ...

1984 by George Orwell / Nine*** Eighty-Four / Film Movie BBC Television's live production of George Orwell's "1984". Produced in 1954. Creative Commons license: Public Domain. Nine*** Eighty-Four is a classic dystopian novel by English author George Orwell. Published in 1949, it is set in the eponymous year and focuses on a repressive, totalitarian regime. The story follows the life of one seemingly insignificant man, Winston Smith, a civil servant assigned the task of falsifying records and political literature, thus effectively perpetuating propaganda, who grows disillusioned with his meagre existence and so begins a rebellion against the system. The novel has become famous for its portrayal of surveillance and society's increasing encroachment on the rights of the individual. Since its publication the terms Big Brother and Orwellian have entered the popular vernacular. Orwell, who had "encapsulated the thesis at the heart of his novel" in 1944, wrote most of Nine*** Eighty-Four on the island of Jura, Scotland, during 19471948 while critically ill with tuberculosis. He sent the final typescript to his friends Secker and Warburg on 4 December 1948 and the book was published on 8 June 1949. Nine*** Eighty-Four has been translated into more than 50 languages. The novel's title, its terms, its language (Newspeak), and its author's surname are bywords for personal privacy lost to national state security. The adjective "Orwellian" denotes many things. It can refer to totalitarian action or organization, as well as governmental ...

Ep. 4 - From Cradle to Grave [1/7]. Milton Friedman's Free to Choose (1980) Since the Depression years of the 1930s, there has been almost continuous expansion of governmental efforts to provide for people's welfare. First, there was a tremendous expansion of public works. The Social Security Act followed close behind. Soon other efforts extended governmental activities in all areas of the welfare sector. Growth of governmental welfare activity continued unabated, and today it has reached truly staggering proportions. Traveling in both Britain and the US, Milton Friedman points out that though many government welfare programs are well intentioned, they tend to have pernicious side effects. In Dr. Friedman's view, perhaps the most serious shortcoming of governmental welfare activities is their tendency to strip away individual independence and dignity. This is because bureaucrats in welfare agencies are placed in positions of tremendous power over welfare recipients, exercising great influence over their lives. Because people never spend someone else's money as carefully as they spend their own, inefficiency, waste, abuse, theft, and corruption are inevitable. In addition, welfare programs tend to be self-perpetuating because they destroy work incentives. Indeed, it is often in the welfare recipients' best interests to remain unemployed. Dr. Friedman suggests a negative income tax as a way of helping the poor. The government would pay money to people falling below a certain income level. As they obtained jobs and earned money, they would continue ...

Fighting politicans with the Benny Hill theme My tribute to Benny Hill. A politician (from Greek "polis") is an individual who is involved in influencing public decision making through the influence of politics or a person who influences the way a society is governed through an understanding of political power and group dynamics. This includes people who hold decision-making positions in government, and people who seek those positions, whether by means of election, coup d'état, appointment, electoral fraud, conquest, right of inheritance (see also: divine right) or other means. Politics are not limited to governance through public office. Political offices may also be held in corporations, and other entities that are governed by self-defined political processes. A parliament is a legislature, especially in those countries whose system of government is based on the Westminster system modelled after that of the United Kingdom. The name is derived from the French parlement, the action of parler (to speak): a parlement is a talk, a discussion, hence a meeting (an assembly, a court) where people discuss matters. (Wikipedia)

Governmental extortion via property tax (part 1 of 2) This freedom activism event took place in San Diego, CA, at the County Tax Collector's office (). It was a protest in which the morality of taxation, specifically property taxes, was questioned. A number of peaceful individuals supported Joe as he paid his property tax in $1 bills. This afforded him and others time to ask challenging questions of the San Diego County Tax Collector, Dan McAllister. The idea was to bring to the government employees'--and public's--attention the coercive nature of government. According to one woman who has been working there for 10 years, she has never seen or heard of an event such as this. In other words, it seems that the vast majority of people who are extorted by government never take the time to point out the immorality and injustice to those who presume to govern them. - Joe's notes This protest was inspired by Ian Freeman () who did two similar events in Keene, NH The language used was inspired by Wes Bertrand: And the moral philosophy was inspired by Stefan Molyneux - And here's the valuable thread about how to challenge those who presume to govern you and take your property without your consent Root-striking questions As well as a list of voluntaryist (or anarcho-capitalist, or complete liberty) resources: bumper music of note was "Society" by Eddie Vedder, from the soundtrack of "Into The Wild."

US cities face financial collapse Overdrawn American cities could face financial collapse in 2011, defaulting on billions of dollars borrowed and derailing the US economic recovery. Municipal bonds were once a very secure form of investment and are now defaulting, a trend that is on the rise. UMass economics professor Richard Wolff says this is going to translate into a diminished quality of life, we need more governmental services not fewer and it is going to affect everyone.
Israel denies NGOs work permits The Israeli interior ministry has stopped issuing work permits to foreigners working for international non-governmental organisations (NGOs). In the last few weeks, NGO staff have been given tourist visas instead, making it virtually impossible for them to carry out their work. The new Israeli policy affects 120 International NGOs, of which many which provide vital developmental and humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. Many NGO members have said that Israel's actions are illegal because the country is obligated under Geneva and humanitarian law to issue them visas and let them work freely there. Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs: Countering the Diplomatic Assault on Israel Learn about the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and its numerous, varied activities aimed at informing the public and opinion makers on key issues regarding the Middle East and Israel. The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs is an independent non-profit institute for policy research and education. Israel's growth and survival are dependent on its winning the war of ideas. The challenges that Israel faces today are not only military. They extend to the United Nations, the mass media, foreign universities, and non-governmental organizations. In many cases, the assault on Israel is aimed at its very legitimacy as a Jewish state. A direct by-product of the attacks on Israel is a clearly detectable rise in anti-Semitism, especially in Europe. In this environment, what is needed is not just better public relations, but also a rigorous ***ysis of the issues being exploited by Israel's adversaries who question Israel's legal rights. In response, the Jerusalem Center seeks to present Israel's case and to highlight the challenges of Islamic extremism and global anti-Semitism. The mission of the Jerusalem Center cannot be assumed by governmental bodies that frequently must focus on solutions to more short-term problems. Moreover, the campaign that Israel faces today does not come from governmental sources alone, but from a variety of private institutions as well. Given this reality, think tanks have a vital role to play by providing a platform for in-depth research and ...
