  • Sorcerers vs Wizards Sorcerers vs. Wizards The magical lexicon is ancient, always growing, and often complicated. The Grimoire includes glossaries to help explain important comcepts; other things it distinguishes between Sorcerers and Wizards. Sorcery forms the bulk of folk magick, and is often referred to as 'Black Magick' or 'the Dark Arts.' Sorcery is also sometimes called sympathetic magick, based on the principle that all things are linked together by invisible bonds (The "Law of Sympathy"). Remember that any knowledge, skill, or technique can be used for good or ill (bad;evil) based on how the user applies it. In this, magick is like fire: a good servant, a poor master, and a dangerous renegade. While most magickal folk practice some forms of sorcery, few actually identify themselves as 'Sorcerers.' Those who do are generally engaged in attempting to control others and rule the world. The primary distinction between a Sorcerer and a Wizard thus lies in the realm of service: A Wizard desires to be of service to others; a Sorcerer desires to be served by others. Often, powerful Wizards and Sorcerers will find themselves standing in oppostion at each other's nemesis (ultimate energy). In the stories, Merlin, Gandalf, Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter are called Wizards. Morgan laFey, Saruman, Darth Vader and Lord Voldemort are called Sorcerers.
