  • Betty's Springtime Glazed Strawberry Pie with Special Crust Recipe In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make her delicious Springtime Glazed Strawberry Pie with Special Crust recipe. It is a gorgeous-looking pie, and it tastes even better than it looks! Ingredients: Pie Crust: 1 cup flour (either self-rising or all-purpose) 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar 1 stick butter or margarine, softened to room temperature In a medium to large mixing bowl, stir together 1 cup flour and 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar. Add 1 stick softened butter, and mash with a fork until the butter is broken apart. Continue to mash the butter into the flour mixture until it forms a ball. (This may take a couple of minutes, but it will eventually make a ball.) Place the ball of dough in the center of a 9-inch pie plate, and use your fingers to press the dough to cover the bottom and sides of the pie plate. Let the dough come a little above the top of the sides, in order to make a fluted edge. Make sure the crust is coating the bottom and side of the pan evenly. Bake the crust in a 350 degree oven for about 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden. Watch carefully, to that the pie crust does not burn in any spot. Remove the crust from the oven and cool to room temperature. (You may speed this up by placing it in the refrigerator after cooling it a bit initially.) When the crust is cool, you may assemble your pie. Springtime Strawberry Pie: 1 baked 9-inch pie crust 1 quart of fresh strawberries, washed and halved 12.75 oz. container of strawberry glaze whipped topping for ...
  • Betty's Brown Sugar Glazed Ham Recipe In this video, Betty demonstrates a Brown Sugar Glazed Ham recipe, dating back to her college days (in the '60's). Being a starving student, Betty almost always had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the university cafeteria. One item that was served repeatedly was Glazed Ham. Betty (using her ever-***yzing food talents) created the following recipe as an imitation of the ham served in the cafeteria, and she has continued to make it throughout her 39 (almost 40!) years of marriage. Ingredients: 1 canned ham (I used Hormel brand, 5 pounds. You may use any brand, and reduce it to 3 pounds, if desired.) 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed 2 tablespoons prepared mustard 1 teaspoon orange juice (You may use another flavor of juice or a juice drink.) Remove the canned ham from the container and place in a crock pot on low for 6 to 8 hours. You may need to cut it into two pieces to get it to fit in the crock pot. When you are ready to put your Brown Sugar Glazed Ham recipe together, remove the ham from the crock pot, and place it on a tray for slicing. Use a kitchen knife, slicer, or electric knife to slice the ham into equal pieces. You may decide to leave some of the ham unglazed for guests who prefer to skip the brown sugar flavor. In a small bowl, mix 1 cup of firmly packed brown sugar with 2 tablespoons of prepared mustard. Use about 1 teaspoon of orange juice to get them to combine. Now spread the tops and bottoms of your sliced ham and place them in an appropriately-sized ...

  • Window Sash Glazing, Save America's Windows Excerpt from the book Save America's Windows Step 9c. Glaze. Apply glazing putty to glazing rabbets as bedding. If working in a cold shop warm the putty slightly with a hot-air gun or infra-red lamp. Set the pane of glass in place and be sure the bottom edge of glass is actually resting on the neck of the lower glazing rabbet (for panes up to 18" wide). Jiggle the glass slightly so that it beds down into the putty, leaving about 1/16" of putty between the glass and the shoulder of the glazing rabbet, with some putty squeezing out all along the edges of the glass. Apply and tool glazing putty in the form of a bevel to make a water-tight seal between the glass and the wood using the 3-step method: Place, Pack & Tool. Immediately "polish" outside of glass with whiting in a dry soft paint brush to clean oil from the putty off of glass and to "dust up" the surface of the putty. Flip the sash over and remove excess putty from interior joints and tool down to form water-tight seal at joint between the glass and the wood. "Polish" inside of glass with whiting. Set sash aside in correct vertical position to avoid settling of glass and distortion of beveled putty. Allow putty to cure and skin over for several days or a few weeks if possible, then the glazed sash is ready for painting. Questions & comments on glazing? • Balsamic Glazed Chicken BALSAMIC GLAZED CHICKEN So my oldest son Brendan is totally awesome to have around because he likes to try different foods. Okay, he's awesome for more than just that, but for my cooking habits, he totally ROCKS! He keeps me on my toes by asking me to make new things, which I am more than happy to do for him. So last summer, he had gone to dinner with his grandparents and came back saying I HAD to make balsamic glazed chicken for him. His description of this sweet, tangy, and sticky glaze did not match any recipes that I had been able to find. So I combined a few recipes from the internet, and tweaked it until I got the results he and I were both looking for. So here it is... So, take your boneless, skinless chicken breasts, and pan fry them in a little bit of olive oil. I seasoned mine with a light sprinkling of salt, pepper, and rosemary. After you flip halfway through cooking (once you get a nice golden brown on the first side) I like to "steam cook" it the remainder of the way using a lid. While that is cooking....let's make the glaze! Balsamic Glaze (makes enough for 4-6 breasts): ¼ c. balsamic vinegar 2 TBSP soy sauce 1 TBSP honey 3 TBSP brown sugar Zest from ½ lemon 1 TBSP minced garlic 1 tsp dried thyme 2 tsp dried rosemary Bring all ingredients to a boil in a small saucepan, then reduce heat to simmer (make sure heat is hot enough to continue bubbling) for approximately 5 minutes, or until reaches a syrupy consistency. During the last 5 minutes or so of cooking ...

  • Double glaze doityourself for 1500 dollars READ THIS - SKIP THE GAP IN THIS VIDEO and SEE GOOD UPDATE NOTES BELOW: At minute 4:54 There's a big blank gap accidentally left in, after the spoken explanation. If you want to watch me doing the work, skip forward to minute 6:36. Sorry - I only noticed it after waiting ten hours for the huge 1.1 Gb file to upload. I might create another version later. The double glazing's been good for several weeks, including cold wet weather when in a steamy kitchen there was no condensation between the glass sheets, just a bit on the inside like a normal glass window the room warmed up. Warning, I found that using a sheet of glass as the straight edge guide is risky - you can chip it with the knife, and you might cut yourself. March 26 update: The 'Ecowho' website seems to suggest single glaze glass loses 240watts/sq metre, but a double-glazed one loses only 25watts/sq metre. Seems tight curtains and a pelmet can roughly equal double-glazing. Doing both only cuts another 5 watts/sq m. But either therefore might save about NZ$90/month of power, assuming the month has average 5 hours a day where you are heating the whole house and the inside/outside is 10 degrees Celsius different. Or say about $10 a room per cold month. I'm now using white foam instead of blue, and full (wooden, not plastic) beading round windows rather than just small clamps - looks very tidy. AND I'm now using a clear sealant to airtight round the glass before putting on the clamping strip of HDPE plastic AND I'm ...
  • Betty's Glazed Party Pecans In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make Glazed Party Pecans. These are great for the holiday season, but I think you will enjoy them year 'round. Ingredients: 1 cup sugar ½ tablespoon ground cinnamon 2 cups pecan halves ½ tablespoon vanilla extract ¼ cup water 1 additional tablespoon water In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sugar and ½ tablespoon ground cinnamon. Set aside. Also, combine ¼ cup water and ½ tablespoon vanilla extract and set aside. Place 2 cups pecan halves in the bottom of a medium-sized, heavy pot. Add the cinnamon-sugar mixture and sprinkle the vanilla-water over the top of the pecans. Stir all together with a wooden spoon. Place pot over medium heat, and boil, stirring constantly, until mixture becomes thick, about 5 to 10 minutes. When the liquid is evaporated and stirring becomes more difficult, remove the pecans from heat. Add in 1 tablespoon water. Stir pecans to coat evenly. When the liquid begins to thicken, pour the glazed nuts out onto a shallow baking pan that is lined with waxed paper. Separate the glazed pecan, using your wooden spoon. Let cool, and then lift pecans out of the crumbly sugar mixture and place them in a nice serving dish. This is great for parties, and I will also be using them in a recipe soon! Enjoy!!! --Betty 
