Neck/Arm Pain: Foraminal Stenosis with Radiculopathy Patient Maxie was on duty in his patrol car when he was rear ended. At the time he did not experience any pain related to his accident. 5 years later Maxie began to experience neck pain running down his shoulder and into his right arm. Maxie said, its like someone put your shoulder in a vise and clamped down so hard that the pain would radiate into your neck and you could feel it in your eye socket. Maxie tried acupuncture and massage therapy which seemed to temporarily relieved the pain but it always returned. To Maxie, the pain was just an irritating part of life that he had to put up with and built up a tolerance for. But the pain slowly got worse and Maxie went back into his medical care group and they scheduled Maxie for X-rays to be taken in 4 months. Maxie continued working and while patrolling on his motor bike he hit an oil slick and lost control of his motorcycle, laying it down on the road. yoshiki get well soon Drummer, pianist and X JAPAN band leader, Yoshiki, will undergo neck surgery on Monday, July 27, 2009 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Beverly Hills, CA. Dr. Neel Anand, Director of the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center, will perform a cervical foraminotomy. Due to his intense drumming style, Yoshiki developed a worsening of his neck pain and left hand numbness over the past month, affecting his music performance. His condition has been evaluated by doctors in the US and Japan. Yoshiki underwent a spinal x-ray series, an MRI of the spine, and an EMG. After seeking second and third opinions on the diagnosis and treatment, he concluded that the foraminotomy was necessary for the cervical foraminal stenosis. Yoshiki's primary physician at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Tommy H. Tomizawa (UCLA Assistant Professor), states that he will need a few weeks to recover from the surgery and a month or more of rehabilitation. PINCHED NERVE SPINE Nerves in general, especially nerve roots, are not getting actually "pinched" as in getting a kink in it, but instead, most of the situations people are describing as a pinched nerve, is actually a situation in which there is a pressure increase (or a partial pressure increase) on the nerve. From experiments in nerve physiology, we know that nerves do not respond well to increase pressure on them, and indeed, even a relatively small increase in pressure can have dramatic effects and in causing nerve pathology. In the area where the nerve exits the spinal cord, and moves outward to supply the body, any decrease in the patency, or opening size of the "hole between the spinal bones" or "intervertebral foramen" can have a disastrous effect on nerve function. A decrease in the size of the opening of the intervertebral foramen is called "foraminal stenosis" and a decrease in the size of the c*** which transmits the spinal cord, is called spinal c*** stenosis. Now, there is not a pill for this ill. In other words, one can take pain killers and muscle relaxants until they are coming out of your ears, and if one still have improper alignment, or lack of movement of a spinal segment, in combination with improper alignment, then drugs won't fix it. Hand_tremor_neck_exercise.wmv When I start my head retraction neck exercise my right hand is resting. After doing several my hand starts to shake. Neck MRI showed osteophyte formation at C3-C4 causing thecal sac compression, and right foraminal stenosis with possibility of exiting nerve root impingement.
