Folkie PC - Clearcut Just a small episode of a play directed by global plutocracy, since which nothing has yet changed. The 2009 Riga riot was a civil unrest. The opposition and trade unions organized a rally requesting dissolution of the parliament. The rally gathered some 10-20 thousand people. In the evening the peaceful rally turned into a riot. The crowd moved to the building of the parliament and attempted to force it's way in, but was repelled. The protest was Latvia's largest since it became independent in 1991.

I'm just an old folkie I'm taking a light hearted swipe at myself here as an aging (but still vigorous!) folkie. We all take ourselves far too seriously and I am guilty more than most. The tune is of course 'On Top of old Smokey'. The lyrics are mine.I wrote them yesterday based on an idea I had a few months ago. (You'll note I'm reading the lyrics.) I spent much of my youth in dark smokey folk clubs watching set after set of the good, the bad and the just plain weird. I often wonder into which category I was placed by others. (BTW the computer says its spelled 'Smoky' but it just doesn't look right)

Old Folkie - Harry Chapin's tribute to Pete Seeger At the age of 88, Pete Seeger's reputation as singer, songwriter and activist is well documented. The singing conscience of a nation for 60 years - even if that nation didn't want to listen - there are few causes that Seeger did not espouse, or sing about. The late Harry Chapin was, like Seeger, New York born and bred. He was not so much a writer of songs, but of short stories set to music. Like Seeger, he was a great humanitarian - raising money to combat world hunger long before other musical 'celebrities' thought of it.
