The fiddle has an amazingly full sound considering the size (my camera and YouTube do not do it justice, trust me). If you need to you can attach a center-mounting chinrest without difficulty, though traditionally it was held like I've got it in the video. If you were wondering, I'm running one of the Glasser braided carbon fiber bows across the strings. It is a wonderful little bow that you should try if given the chance.   • Westphalia Waltz (Olde Tyme Fiddle tune made famous by Cotton Collins c1946) This is actually a very old French tune from nearly 300 years ago that made its way to Germany and then during WW2 a fellow by the name of Cotton Collins a fiddler from the US, who was with Hank Thompson and the Lone Star Playboys, took this tune back home with him in his head and refined this old waltz and gave it new life in the 1940s while at a dance in Wesphalia, Texas. According to an awesome write-up by Clay Coppedge on the website Coppedge tells that ...After a dance at Westphalia Hall in 1946, the band met with hall manager BJ Lignau to divvy up the evening's proceeds. Collins mentioned the crowd sure like his 'No Name Waltz.' Lignau said that since the song had no name, he might as well call it 'Westphalia Waltz.' So thats what he did and it became a number one hit released on Bluebonnet Records. Here I managed to chord along on the guitar and play second fiddle too...tricky...lol, but cool after a million trys!!

Máire O'Keeffe comes from Tralee, Co. Kerry and is presently a Ph D student at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in the University of Limerick studying "The role of the button accordion in Irish Traditional Music". She is well known as a traditional fiddle player with her repertoire including music from such varied traditions as Sliabh Luachra, Donegal, Shetland and Cape Breton.
