Jharkhand Forum - Adivasi and Industrial Hazard Jharkhand Forum - Silicosis and Adivasi When small silica dust particles are inhaled, they can embed themselves deeply into the tiny alveolar sacs and ducts in the lungs, where oxygen and carbon dioxide gases are exchanged. There, the lungs cannot clear out the dust by mucous or coughing. When fine particles of silica dust are deposited in the lungs, macrophages that ingest the dust particles will set off an inflammation response by releasing tumor necrosis factors, interleukin-1, leukotriene B4 and other cytokines. In turn, these stimulate fibroblasts to proliferate and produce collagen around the silica particle, thus resulting in fibrosis and the formation of the nodular lesions. The inflammatory effects of crystalline silica are apparently mediated by the Nalp3 inflammasome Furthermore, the surface of silicon dust can generate silicon-based radicals that lead to the production of hydroxyl and oxygen radicals, as well as hydrogen peroxide, which can inflict damage to the surrounding cells. Characteristic lung tissue pathology in nodular silicosis consists of fibrotic nodules with concentric "onion-skinned" arrangement of collagen fibers, central hyalinization, and a cellular peripheral zone, with lightly birefringent particles seen under polarized light. In acute silicosis, microscopic pathology shows a periodic acid-Schiff positive alveolar exudate (alveolar lipoproteinosis) and a cellular infiltrate of the alveolar walls.

Tatu-derm removal Got my tattoo Friday night and was told to leave it on for 3 nights. Removed it Monday morning after taking a shower. I didn't want to remove it first and then take a shower since I didn't want any dirty soap suds contacting the tattoo. The directions given to me stated to just wash the area with water. So at the end of my shower, I let warm water run over the tatu-derm to soften the adhesive and pat dry. There was ink and exudate residue, but not runny. I could feel the tattoo drying and jumped in the shower to rinse it off. No touching was needed as the ink and exudate ran off with ease under running warm water for about 5 minutes. My tattoo looks pretty good and seems 75% healed. No pain or soreness; just slight itching here and there on the adhesive surrounding the tattoo which is normal. And of course, it's a bit sensitive when my shirt grazes over it, but not painful at all. Patted on just enough Vaseline Intensive Rescue Repairing Moisture Fragrance-Free and Hypoallergenic lotion on the tattoo and surrounding area.

Ostomy Paste and Ostomy Powder -- A Review of Current Ostomy Products Do I need to use ostomy paste? When do I need to use skin barrier powder? Ostomy Paste is used as a caulking agent to fill gaps and creases to even the area around the stoma. This allows a better seal and prevents leakage in the ostomy appliance. Ostomy Powder (pectin and karaya) protects raw and weeping skin by creating a sticky gel. It is used sparingly to absorb moisture or exudate from skin prior to placing a skin barrier on peristomal skin. It is convenient to use as squeeze bottle allows aeration of powder onto skin and the bottle has window for visualizing contents. The Parthenon Company located in Salt Lake City, UTAH specialized in ostomy supplies as well as wound care dressings, urologicals and nutrition for 50 years. Our expertise is in ostomy medical supplies exhibited in our one hundred page catalog published every year. Shop to save on your next purchase!

Introduction to Varivac InService Video VariVac is a patented product designed to minimise blood loss post operatively whilst eliminating haematomas. Typically post operative blood flow is generous because of many factors, some patients are even heparinised during surgery causing the blood to flow un-restricted. The regulator system in VariVac allows clinical staff to adjust the vacuum setting all the way down to zero or passive/gravity. This passive setting allows the wound pressure to drain exudate uninterrupted and without draining more blood from the patient than is needed, this helps to minimise blood loss. Exudate flow is controlled by the pressure in the wound site and not the devices vacuum, such as many other systems on the market.
Hydrofiber® Technology in Action - Sequestration Test (2/4) We can perform a simple experiment using fluids of different colours to demonstrate the ability of dressings with Hydrofiber® Technology to lock in fluid by forming a cohesive gel, compared to conventional gauze and alginate dressings. As each material is exposed to differently dyed fluids, representing exudate, in succession, we can see how the dressing with Hydrofiber® Technology clearly and definitively locks in each fluid in turn, with no bleeding of one fluid into the next. By contrast, the dressings made from traditional materials largely fail to lock in the fluids. We can see fluids mix freely within the dressings, and flow from the dressings again after exposure. Two clinical studies support the use of dressings with Hydrofiber® Technology to deliver enhanced protection of periwound skin, and effective exudate management. ___________________________________________ Coutts P, Sibbald RG. The Witchcraft of Evolution Real Science: Each plant is capable of producing up to 500000 seeds, which may remain viable in the soil for over 10 years.[8] An annual plant, witchweed overwinters in the seed stage.[2] Its seeds germinate in the presence of host root exudate and develop haustoria which penetrate host root cells.[2] Host root exudate contain strigolactones, signaling molecules that promote Striga seed germination.[9] A bell-like swell forms where the parasitic roots attach to the roots of the host.[6] The pathogen colonizes underground where it may spend the next 4--7 weeks before emergence, when it rapidly flowers and produces seeds.[6] Witchweed seeds spread easily by wind, water, and soil via animal vectors.[6] The chief means of dispersal, however, is through human interaction, by means of machinery, tools, and clothing.[6][8] Basil Repels flies and mosquitoes. How the Procellera Device Works Prosit technology is designed to generate a sustained electrical microcurrent on the surface of a device. This technology is based on a unique biophysical mechanism of action resulting from low levels of electrical energy produced within the device. Its dressing form, PROCELLERA, is self-contained, can be cut to fit as needed and requires no external power supply. The device is activated in the presence of a conductive fluid, which may come from wound exudate or exogenous fluids including normal saline. When activated, biocompatible micro-cells spontaneously produce a sustained predetermined microcurrent similar to the microcurrent that occurs at areas of skin injury in normal hosts. As documented extensively in the literature, this physiologic local microcurrent may be necessary for the initiation of wound healing and the transport of cells to the healing wound margins. Dressing an Abrasion Here I describe the best methods for dressing an abrasion (scrape). Abrasions, over other wounds, are more likely to promote the sticking of dressings because of a large surface area that produces exudate which will dry-out when exposed to air. Exudate, is a fluid comprised of mainly water, proteins and white blood cells. Occlusive dressings, like Tegaderm, non-adherent pads and Hydrocolloid prevent the wound from drying-out. Drying-out leads to the formation of scabs, which leads to poorly healed abrasions. The best way to treat any would, but specifically an abrasion, is to maintain a moist clean environment. A case of severe tonsillitis See the exudate on the inflammed tonsils
Wound Healing Process Wound Healing Whether wounds are closed by primary intention, subject to delayed primary closure or left to heal by secondary intention1, the wound healing process is a dynamic one which can be divided into three phases. It is critical to remember that wound healing is not linear and often wounds can progress both forwards and back through the phases depending upon intrinsic and extrinsic forces at work within the patient2. The phases of wound healing are2: Inflammatory phase Proliferation phase Maturation phase The inflammatory phase is the body's natural response to injury. After initial wounding, the blood vessels in the wound bed contract and a clot is formed. Once haemostasis has been achieved, blood vessels then dilate to allow essential cells; antibodies, white blood cells, growth factors, enzymes and nutrients to reach the wounded area. This leads to a rise in exudate levels so the surrounding skin needs to be monitored for signs of maceration. It is at this stage that the characteristic signs of inflammation can be seen; erythema, heat, oedema, pain and functional disturbance. The predominant cells at work here are the phagocytic cells; 'neutrophils and macrophages'; mounting a host response and autolysing any devitalised 'necrotic / sloughy' tissue. During proliferation, the wound is 'rebuilt' with new granulation tissue which is comprised of collagen and extracellular matrix and into which a new network of blood vessels develop, a process known as 'angiogenesis ...
