Robinson recalls wearing a bulletproof vest to his consecration due to numerous death threats. ----- Bishop Gene Robinson presents at Momentum 2009 on the Power plenary: Pathways to opportunity and prosperity in America continue to be blocked by racism, homophobia, and elitism. Who defines the rules of engagement? How do private perceptions inform public choices and vice versa? How can we use ideas, network, and technology to reformulate hierarchies and enact progressive values? What does it mean to speak truth to power in the Obama era? Robinson's momentum: "As a human being and as a Christian, I am passionate about joining God in loving and liberating the poor, the marginalized and the disenfranchised. The closer we are to those who are in the margins, the closer we get to God." - Momentum Conference Gene Robinson is the Ninth Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of New Hampshire. • "Bruton Parish Episcopal Church" Ramblinggal's photos around Williamsburg, United States Preview of Ramblinggal's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Williamsburg, United States Entry Title: "Bruton Parish Episcopal Church." Entry: "Bruton Parish was formed in1674 by merging earlier parishes in Williamsburg, Virginia, dating to 1633. It was named for an English Parish on the River Brue in Somerset, where it's founding fathers, Governor Sir William Berkeley, and Secretary of Virginia, Thomas Ludwell. In colonial times, church and state were united in Virginia. All office holders were obliged by law to attend church regularly. Yet, Virginia Anglicans (Episcopalians) led in the disestablishment of the church. Bruton Parish and Williamsburg settled into a gradual decline following the revolution. In 1840, the colonial plan of the interior was reversed so one faced west toward the altar. Bruton's age old cruciform plan was not usual in Virginia colonial churches. It arose here less from religious symbolism than from a desire to accommodate college and government personnel during special times. The church is symmetrical; chancel and the nave are equal. The use of arched doors and both round and arched windows is typical of the period. The church tower, topped by a beige wooden steeple, was added in 1769; during the Revolution its bell served as the local "liberty bell", rung to summon people for announcements. And the spire is unusual-a ...

  • I Am The Very Model Of Today's Episcopalian - St. Mark's Episcopal Church My dad singing the parody of the famous song at a choir fundraiser with four of the church choir women singing the chorus, including my mom. Disclaimer: I don't own the song, but I do own the lead singer. Lyrics: (Punctuation and capitalization from the original document) We are the very model of today's Episcopalian, We're broad and high and low and wide and somewhat bacch***ian, We're mystical, political, we're secular and clerical; We can be charismatic but we seldom get hysterical. We're traditional and modernist and socialist-monarchical; We're protestant and catholic but not too hierarchical; About ordaining women we're teeming with a lot of views As well as on the Prayerbook that our Bishops say we gotta use. Chorus: As well as on the Prayerbook that our Bishops say we gotta use, as well as on the Prayerbook that our Bishops say we gotta use, as well as on the Prayerbook that our Bishops say we gotta gotta use. We're prosperous. By daily work our stewardship is merited, Abetted by the little bit that some of us inherited; In monetary matters we are very economical; The portion that we give the Church is best described as comical. Chorus: In monetary matters we are very economical; the portion that we give the Church is best described as comical. We're very well acquainted too with matters ecumenical, In spite of being vague about our vows catechumenical A knowledge of our church remains to most of us a mystery. (Someday we'll take the time to learn our heritage ...

  • 2. Ecumenical Dialogue -- Catholic Episcopal Agreement People of good faith, however different in their belief, must work together to celebrate their common mission of bettering their community, rather than to be divided over their differences. Ecumenical dialogue refers to cooperation among religious denominations within one faith tradition, for example, among the various Christian groups. In 1988, after years of fruitful dialogue between Roman Catholics and Episcopalians, Bishop Clark signed a special Covenant with Episcopal Bishop of Rochester William Burrill. This inter-diocesan Covenant was considered at the time ground-breaking.

  • SIM-Society for the Increase of the Ministry-Episcopal Theological Education Join Hands to Wrap Our Arms around a Big Problem Society for the Increase of the Ministry (SIM) Fills the Funding Gap Maybe you're one of those Episcopalians who doesn't realize that seminarians must find ways to pay for theological education. Traditional primary sources of parish and diocesan support have been dwindling. People responding to a call to serve God and become a priest in The Episcopal Church have increasingly turned to debt to help finance their theological education. Taking on debt is a big problem for a professional graduate degree that, unlike other such degrees, qualifies them for most worthy service but for income barely sufficient to repay student loans. Our seminarians shouldn't be hindered in their vocational journey by thoughts of, 'How will I pay for learning to serve God?' This is a responsibility of the Church. Together we, the people of the Church, can be bold and solve this big problem--the solution comes in "thinking small." Introducing The $18.57 Circle of Seminarian Friends Times have changed. Costs have changed. Resources have changed. But by joining SIM's $18.57 Circle of Seminarian Friends, you can make seminarian debt a thing of the past. By reaching out to all Episcopalians for small amounts we leverage stewardship for our future ordained leaders across the shoulders of many -- making the burden of responsibility more manageable and lightening a big load for seminarians. Your small donation can eliminate the need for ...
