Faces of Eosinophilic Esophagitis Many videos out there show kids with eosinophilic esophagitis. Showing the children, the pain, and the disease. These children are children not their disease. It affects the entire family and a lot of times it seems to get forgotten. Siblings missing out because they have a sick brother or sister. No one showing the stress our families feel and that we do things we wouldn't normally do. Yes we have a sick child, but we have children in the same house that aren't whose faces don't get shown. While we search for a cure for a disease with no cure, we come home to a family. And yes even their siblings fight the fight to find a cure. If a child can help so can you.
Dancers Warehouse-Lucas and Eosinophilic Disease awareness Hi Lucas has Eosinophilic Esophagitis which right now has no known cure. Eosinophils are white blood cells that in a normal immune system fight off infections such as parasites. In a child with EoE these white blood cells can treat food as if its a parasite. Some children only react to 1 or 2 foods while others have a severly limited diet or can eat no food at all by mouth and must exist on an elemental diet which often requires tube feeding. These children must undergo multiple procedures including many endoscopies. Symptoms vary but may include nausea, vomiting, food impactation, failure to thrive, difficulty sleeping, chest and abdominal pain and dysphagia. Lucas' passion is dance and it is his hope that every child suffering from this disease is able to follow his or her own passion without limitation, please help. If you like this video please consider a donation at which raises money for research for EGID diseases. Thank you.

Boy Can't Eat - Eosinophilic Esophagitis Awareness - NBC Richmond Imagine having difficulty swallowing every time you eat or never being able to eat solid foods. Most people cant fathom not being able to eat, but 6 year old Justin and his mom Tami of Richmond Virginia (and thousands of others) struggle with food everyday. Since Justin was born he couldnt keep down solid foods and his mom knew something was very wrong. Only after 2 years of meeting with a number of doctors and going through many tests and incorrect diagnoses, did Tami learn Justin had a disease called eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). EoE is an allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus that can cause difficulty in swallowing and heartburn, and in severe cases it can lead to food impaction (food getting stuck in the esophagus) and in children, a failure to thrive (poor growth or weight loss). Due to the lack of education of the medical community and the general public of this disorder, it is currently taking patients and families 2 to 4 years of suffering to be able to obtain an accurate diagnosis. EoE is an emerging disease and there has been a dramatic rise in the number of patients diagnosed with EoE. The disorder is believed to have a higher prevalence than well recognized disorders such as Crohns disease. Story includes an interview from Dr. Anne-Marie Irani.

EOSINOPHIL: ULTRA DARKFIELD MICROSCOPY Eosinophil swimming along with red blood cells. Eosinophil granulocytes, usually called eosinophils or eosinophiles (or, less commonly, acidophils), are white blood cells that are one of the immune system components responsible for combating multicellular parasites and certain infections in vertebrates. Along with mast cells, they also control mechanisms associated with allergy and asthma. They are granulocytes that develop during hematopoiesis in the bone marrow before migrating into blood. These cells are eosinophilic or 'acid-loving' as shown by their affinity to coal and tar dyes: Normally transparent, it is this affinity that causes them to appear brick-red after staining with eosin, a red dye, using the Romanowsky method. The staining is concentrated in small granules within the cellular cytoplasm, which contain many chemical mediators, such as histamines and proteins such as eosinophil peroxidase, ribonuclease (RNase), deoxyribonucleases, lipase, plasminogen, and major basic protein. These mediators are released by a process called degranulation following activation of the eosinophil, and are toxic to both parasite and host tissues.

Allergic to everything - Sam's battle with Eosinophilic Esophagitis I have a rare autoimmune disease. My eosinophils, a type of white blood cell, attacks food as it passes through my esophagus. Treatments are steriods, taking out foods I am allergic to, taking out foods that are high allergens. But I am on the strickest forms of treatment. All my food has been taken away. I am left with a prescription formula, expensive $51 a can and 44 cans per month. Plus, all the medical equipment and supplies I need per month, formula and equipment totals over $ 4000 per month. Some insurance companies won't cover that. Once they took away my food, I ended up with a feeding tube in surgery getting a tube placed in my stomach. I only want to be a kid.
