  • Kathak by Anurag Verma Ms. Anurag Verma was trained in the intricacies of Jaipur Gharaana of Kathak dance at Kathak Kendra,The National Institute of Kathak Dance in New Delhi. A number of performances in India and abroad have established her quaint beauty of style as well as emotive intensity. A keen interest in and exploration of the Rajasthani roots and character of the Jaipur tradition of Kathak led her to the choreography of Sampravaahi, her brainchild. Through this ensemble of Manganiar Music and Jaipur Kathak traditions, two complimentary art streams from Rajasthan, Anurag has, at the same time, endeavoured to present the treasure of Manganiar music, laden rich and decorated with the classicality of Kathak, blending subtle and evocative dancing with the poetry and varied themes like valour, festivals, devotion, the beauteous, etc. of traditional Manganiar songs, while providing a rich musical base for Kathak presentation. One of the senior most disciples of Pt. Rajendra Gangani, Anurag has been teaching her dance form since 1998. She has taught at Sangeet Bharti and at Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra in New Delhi, and is, at present, teaching in Jaipur Kathak Kendra, Jaipur. She has also worked briefly in the Dance Section of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. She was honoured by the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademi with its first Yuva Puraskar in July 2001.

His first living was St. Dunstan's-in-the-West, London, and he remained as vicar until the Act of Uniformity 1662 was passed, when he was ejected. He also took part with other evangelical clergy in carrying on a lecture series in Cripplegate church under the name of 'Morning Exercise.' In the negotiations for the restoration of Charles II, Bates took part. Royal favour came to him, and he was appointed one of the royal chaplains. In 1660, he acted as one of the commissioners of the Savoy conference. In 1661, Cambridge conferred on him the degree of DD by royal mandate. At the same time, he was urged to accept the deanery of Lichfield and Coventry, but like Richard Baxter, Edmund Calamy the elder, Thomas Manton, and others in their position, he declined office. Later, Bates conducted the discussion between the nonconformists and John Pearson, Peter Gunning, and Anthony Sparrow. In 1665, Bates took the oath imposed by the parliament which met at Oxford 'that he would not at any time endeavour an alteration in the government of church or state.' • 1941 Italian Prisoners of war January 6, 1941. British Movietone News. Following the success at Sidi Barrani, the British 4th Armoured and 7th Armoured Brigades endeavoured to pursue the retreating Italians vigorously. However, they encountered acute supply problems exacerbated by the large number of prisoners (twenty times the number planned for) and found it extremely difficult to advance. Italian forces crowded into the coast route while retreating from Sidi Barrani and Buq Buq and were easy targets for the Terror and the two gunboats which bombarded the Sollum area all day and most of the night of 11 December. By late 12 December the only remaining Italian positions in Egypt were at the approaches to Sollum and a force in the region of Sidi Omar. Due praise went to Italian anti-tank and artillery gunners who managed to destroy eigh*** British tanks but eventually, 237 artillery pieces, 73 light and medium tanks, and about 38300 Italian and Libyan soldiers were destroyed or captured. The Rajputana Rifles of the 4th Indian Division lost 41 officers and 394 men killed and wounded in the attacks and dozens of British tanks had been destroyed or disabled.

  • The Fields Laid Waste The plight of children at work in 19th century England has always moved me immensely - particularly the plight of the pauper apprentices, many of whom were bought from the workhouse by factory owners in much the same way as slaves were bought and sold. There was little protection for these children apart from the devoted philanthropists who endeavoured to make their situation known and have the laws changed. It has always seemed to me that with the coming of industrialisation, much of humanity's relationship with Nature and the earth was lost. When Britain was largely an agrarian society, people rose with the sun, adjusted their lives to the changing seasons and, though the life of the poor was always difficult even in the villages, there was a sense of community and belonging that began to disintegrate with the coming of the factories. Alongside the main love story, "The Fields Laid Waste" follows the people of a Yorkshire village who are compelled by the effects of the Enclosure Act to leave a way of life that their families have known for centuries. Although this is a novel, it is thoroughly grounded in historical fact - from the geographical layout and street names of Leeds in the 19th century, to the number of bushels yielded per acre of land. I wrote it in tribute to all those children whose names are long-forgotten, but whose labour created the wealth that built the great Victorian edifices that still crown our cities today. I cannot pass by the beautiful ...

  • SOLD OUT TO THE devil !! HOLLYWOOD FAME !! KATY PERRY CHAP. LXXVII. Cain, 15 years old, and Abel 12 years old, grow apart. BUT when Adam saw that the elder brother hated the younger, he endeavoured to soften their hearts, and said unto Cain, "Take, O my son, of the fruits of thy sowing, and make an offering unto God, that He may forgive thee thy wickedness and thy sin." 2 He said also to Abel, "Take thou of thy sowing and make an offering and bring it to God, that He may forgive thy wickedness and thy sin." 3 Then Abel hearkened unto his father's voice, and took of his sowing, and made a good offering, and said to his father, Adam, "Come with me, to show me how to offer it up." 4 And they went, Adam and Eve with him, and showed him how to offer up his gift upon the altar. Then after that, they stood up and prayed that God would accept Abel's offering. 5 Then God looked upon Abel and accepted his offering. And p. 56 [paragraph continues] God was more pleased with Abel than with his offering, because of his good heart and pure body. There was no trace of guile in him. 6 Then they came down from the altar, and went to the cave in which they dwelt. But Abel, by reason of his joy at having made his offering, repeated it three times a week, after the example of his father Adam. 7 But as to Cain, he took no pleasure in offering; but after much anger on his father's part, he offered up his gift once; and when he did offer up, his eye was on the offering he made, and he took the smallest of his sheep for an offering, and his eye was ...

He was a prominent Maori cultural performer and entertainer, not only in Rotorua but throughout NZ and also abroad. I have endeavoured to incorporate Maori cultural hand movements along with line dance steps. The main song "Maori Hangi" seems appropriate as Hangis were part of his Culture group's presentation to the public at large. • The Lost Evidence: Liberation Of Paris (2/5) The success of July 1944s Operation Cobra enabled the Allies to force a breakout from Normandy; General Pattons Third Army made remarkable strides forward. By August 2nd, the Allies had completely broken out of the deadly Bocage and were preparing to sweep into central France. Behind them, they left more than 50000 casualties victims of the fanatical SS Panzer Divisions. By this stage, the French terrain could best be tackled by using a lightning tank and infantry movement. The US Army and their British Allies decided to set a pincer trap for two complete German armies. They were wholly cognisant that if they succeeded, 150000 men would be caught in their carefully constructed noose, and the German Army in Normandy would be routed. Seventy miles away in Paris, the French resistance eagerly observed the Allied advance. On August 19th, Parisians rose up against their *** dominators, vowing to exact revenge for four years of brutal and bloody occupation. As the battle intensified on the streets of the French capital, the Allies endeavoured to reach Paris in time to save its citizens from possible slaughter. • BATTLE OF BRITAIN 'Main Theme' - Ron Goodwin Battle of Britain is a 1969 film directed by Guy Hamilton, and produced by Harry Saltzman and S. Benjamin Fisz. The film broadly relates the events of the Battle of Britain. The script by James Kennaway and Wilfred Greatorex was based on the book The Narrow Margin by Derek Wood and Derek Dempster. The film endeavoured to be an accurate account of the Battle of Britain, when in the summer and autumn of 1940 the British RAF inflicted a strategic defeat on the Luftwaffe and so ensured the cancellation of Operation 'Sealion' Hitler's plan to invade Britain. The huge strategic victory of the outnumbered British pilots would be summed up by Winston Churchill in the immortal words: "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." The film is notable for its spectacular flying sequences, echoing those seen in Angels One Five (1952) but on a far grander scale than had been seen on film before. These made the film's production very expensive. The film has two musical scores. The first was written by Sir William Walton, and conducted by Malcolm Arnold. However, the music department at United Artists objected that the score was too short. As a result, a further score was commissioned from Ron Goodwin. Producer S. Benjamin Fisz and actor Sir Laurence Olivier protested this decision, and Olivier threatened to take his name from the credits. In the end, one segment of the Walton score, titled The Battle in the Air, which framed the climactic air battles of ...

  • ATLAS OF CREATION The Desperate Efforts of Neo Darwinism 76 Darwin's theory entered into a deep crisis because of the laws of genetics discovered in the first quarter of the 20th century. Nevertheless, a group of scientists who were determined to remain loyal to Darwin endeavoured to come up with solutions. They came together in a meeting organised by the Geological Society of America in 1941. Geneticists such as G. Ledyard Stebbins and Theodosius Dobzhansky, zoologists such as Ernst Mayr and Julian Huxley, paleontologists such as George Gaylord Simpson and Glenn L. Jepsen, and mathematical geneticists such as Ronald Fisher and Sewall Right, after long discussions, finally agreed on ways to "patch up" Darwinism. This cadre focused on the question of the origin of the advantageous variations that supposedly caused living organisms to evolve-an issue that Darwin himself was unable to explain but simply tried to side-step by depending on Lamarck. The idea was now "random mutations". They named this new theory "The Modern Synthetic Evolution Theory", which was formulated by adding the concept of mutation to Darwin's natural selection thesis. In a short time, this theory came to be known as "neo-Darwinism" and those who put forward the theory were called "neo-Darwinists". The following decades were to become an era of desperate attempts to prove neo-Darwinism. It was already known that mutations-or "accidents" -that took place in the genes of living organisms were always harmful. Neo-Darwinists tried to establish a case for ...

  • The Lost Evidence: Liberation Of Paris (1/5) The success of July 1944s Operation Cobra enabled the Allies to force a breakout from Normandy; General Pattons Third Army made remarkable strides forward. They also needed to prevent the German commandant from following Hitlers orders and reducing the beautiful city to ash and rubble. This film offers an unprecedented viewpoint of the famous battle to liberate Paris. British and German aerial reconnaissance photographs taken at the time have been layered over a three dimensional contour map to create a CGI model of the ...

• Sounds of the Heart II ~ Karunesh WITHOUT YOU I cannot exist without you I am forgetful of every thing but seeing you again my Life seems to stop there I see no further. You have absorb'd me. I have a sensation at the present moment as though I was dissolving: I should be exquisitely miserable without the hope of soon seeing you. I should be afraid to separate myself far from you. You have ravish'd me away by a power I cannot resist; and yet I could resist till I saw you; and even since I have seen you I have endeavoured often to reason against the reasons of my Love. I can do that no more -- the pain would be too great -- My Love is selfish I cannot breathe without you. ~ JOHN KEATS ~
  • BATTLE OF BRITAIN 'End Theme' - Ron Goodwin Battle of Britain is a 1969 film directed by Guy Hamilton, and produced by Harry Saltzman and S.
  • Guitar: Farewell To Nova Scotia It seems to be a week for requests! This one is for a Gordon Lightfoot song, Farewell To Nova Scotia and is yet again new to me. However having listened to the Irish Rovers version, I liked it so much that I endeavoured to work out the chords and sing it as soon as I could. The chord pattern is slightly unusual, so took a while, so I hope it sounds OK.

  • Simon Grey Feat. Abby Joyce - Prophecy Abby Joyce was Australia's Godfather of Funk, RnB, Soul, Motown, Gospel and so much more. He had a presense on a stage that could captivate and single handedly involve you in his pure love for music. His amazing vocal range, tone and accuracy was undoubtably the best and set the bench mark for so many singers that have endeavoured to aspire to be like him, from Gary Pinto, Dennis & Darren Dowlut, KPS JAM, Dynasti, Angela Librandi, Jason Heerah, Dave Matthews MC Junior... and the list goes on. Always with a beautiful smile on his face you could see his emotion in his singing and you were truly blessed to here him sing in his later years. Abby Joyce was loved and cared about by so many and he will truly be missed. He was a husband, father, son, uncle, cousin, teacher, mentor but more importantly a wonderful spirited man. God Bless you Abby, you will be missed but never forgotten, your love of music and passion for life will live on through the people who hold that special place in there hearts for you. We will all miss you and we will see you again. RIP Abby Joyce.
  • Khaire Nymphe Thea ( Χαίρε Νύμφη Θεά ) This is an Akathist litany by Saint Nektarios of Aegina who was a dedicated scholar, well versed in the ancient texts and in the liturgy of the early Byzantine Church. As a part of his controversial ministry he endeavoured to restore the position of deaconess to the Eastern Orthodox Church. His hymn draws heavily on the liturgical traditions and musical forms of 6th century Byzantium and reflects the music of the early Eastern Orthodox Church at a time when it was borrowing heavily from the cultural and philosophical traditions of Hellenic and pre-Hellenic Greece. The verb "khaire" (meaning "hail !" in the sense of invocation) is most often "translated" as "rejoice" in the English versions of Akathist hymns. As in the pre-Christian hymns to the Goddess - the refrain "Khaire Nymphe" is repeated after each verse and forms the chorus. This is reminiscent of the invocation of the Shekinah ("the Holy Spirit") in the traditions of mystical Judaism in which the call "Bo-i Kallah, Shekinah !" ("Come, O Bride, Shekinah !") resounds with deep reverence and love. In this prayer, the Panaghia is invoked by Her sacred titles which have been part of a silver umbilical cord of continuity that is well-documented from inscriptions that stretches back to pre-Hellenic times : Despoina ("Mistress") Nymphe ("Bride") Meter ("Mother") Kore ("Daughter") Kuria ("Lady") Anassa ("Queen") Basilissa ("Queen") Pantanassa ("Queen of All Things") Panaghia ("All Holy One" cf. Ariadne / Ariagne ) One of ...
  • WW2 - Battle of Kos Island (Oct 1943) WW2 footage. German Wartime Newsreel (Die Deutsche Wochenschau Nr. 687, 03-Nov-1943). With the capitulation of Italy in September 1943, German forces in the Balkans moved to take over the Italian-held areas. At the same time, the Allies, under the instigation of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, endeavoured to occupy the Dodecanese island chain. The Dodecanese island, under Italian control since 1912, were strategically located in the southeastern Aegean Sea, and Churchill hoped to use them as a base against German positions in the Balkans, and as a means to pressure neutral Turkey into the war on the Allied side. The capture of Kos would have disastrous consequences for British operations in the Dodecanese Islands. Deprived of air cover, the Allies were in the long run unable to hold the other islands, while the Germans pressed their advantage, capturing Leros a month later and completing their conquest of the Dodecanese by the end of November.
