Return of Sherlock Holmes (Empty House) jeremy brett / ed alleyne-johnson Do you remember the first time you watched "The Empty House" and rejoiced in the fact Sherlock was not dead after all? Wasn't it great! I've always loved the tender emotion shown in the episode; I hope this video can capture some of that. Ironically, for me this is the episode which made really notice Jeremy when I was "grown up", as apposed to just being a Sherlock fan when I was a child. I was just so happy he wasn't really dead in the story. I suddenly realized there was just something about him; a connection, an odd feeling of safety/comfort. I really can't explain it. It was much more than the trivial *I fancy him*, it actually wasn't about that kind of attraction. I just dearly wanted to know him personally. :) I know no one is prefect, but I certainly identify with and find encouragement in him. And I'm lucky to have been able to find out far more about him than I thought possible this year (which have shown me a beautiful soul), much thanks to certain sources . This is the private Master Class he gave to British trombonist Marcus Reynolds who experienced a career- and life-changing accident falling off stage in 1997, suffering almost irreparable damage to his embouchure. Marcus then embarked on a long and laborsome convalescence to reach where he is today. In this film, Professor Marcellus takes Marcus back through air stream fundamentals, Bernoulli's principle of physics and employs a wonderfully illustrative image to describe how the air stream triggers the vibration of the lips. He works with Marcus employing air stream to achieve a full sound in various positions and registers and discusses decibel (dB) levels as they relate to musical dynamics. Allegro molto Performed by the Vermeer Quartet *The String Quartet No. 4 was written from July to September, 1927 in Budapest. This work, like the String Quartet No. 5, and several other pieces by Bartók, is in a so-called "arch" structure - the first movement is thematically related to the last, and the second to the fourth with the third movement standing alone. Also, the outer four movements feature rhythmic sforzandos that cyclically tie them together in terms of climatic areas. The playing time for the movements are [generally] 5, 2, 5, 2, 5 minutes respectively, a display of the mathematical logic behind this quartet. The quartet employs a similar harmonic language to that of the String Quartet No. 3, and as with that work, it has been suggested that Bartók was influenced in his writing by Alban Berg's Lyric Suite (1926) which he had heard in 1927. The quartet employs a number of extended instrumental techniques; for the whole of the second movement all four instruments are played with mutes, while the entire fourth movement is played pizzicato. In the third movement, Bartók sometimes indicates held notes to be played without vibrato, and in various places he asks for glissandi (sliding from one note to another) and so-called Bartók pizzicati (a pizzicato where the string rebounds against the instrument's fingerboard). Nazma's Story After receiving vocational beautician training and a loan from Plan partner CMES, Nazma was able to open her own beauty salon at the age of 16. Her salon offers eyebrow shaping, manicures, facials, hair cuts, upper lip plucking and hair and face bleaching. Despite initial hostility from local men, Nazma has built up a successful business and now has two salons and employs four people.
