  • The Whole Is Greater Than It's [Body]Parts.mov Film Installation. (Obviously quality of the film was better) Images can be found at A film I created for my second year gallery exhibition and documentation o said exhibition. In the film I buried myself under mud and filmed myself emerging over an hour using three different angles. The film and installation was based around the idea of misconception and first impressions, with the focus based on the feeling of ultimate recognition after a time of confusion. I wanted it to deal with the connection between what we recognize and how we try to construct an idea of what it is we are looking at thus enabling us to understand it. Previously I have used the body in a more intimate and subtle way, experimenting with the body as a landscape predominately working up close to its key features; however the foundation of the piece is that of Gestalt Psychology. Gestalt - "essence or shape of an entity's complete form" From this the title " The Whole Is Greater Than It's [Body] Parts" was given. I wanted to look at the body as a 'whole' and time as 'parts'. The aim of this durational piece (one hour) was to expose the body gradually therefore progressively explaining what it is within the box. I chose to display a stop animation sequence with the other scenes purely for the Gallery exhibition as I felt a durational piece would be lost within such a multi-disciplinary gallery.

  • Garment Work PREVIEW Garment Work (2010) is a project by Anne Elizabeth Moore conducted in residence at the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei, formerly one of the largest and longest-running textile mills in the world. Garment Work incorporates video, an installation of the constituent elements of a single pair of German-manufactured jeans, and a Tagebuch, kept in German, that references the Baumwollspinnerei's Brigadebucher, regular diaries of sociopolitical life at the textile mill under the GDR. The Garment Work video distills 34 hours and 36 minutes of work into a ten-hour video of Moore's durational performance, which involved taking apart a pair of jeans with her bare hands under the contemporary conditions of the former textile mill over the course of three weeks. Garment Work is a meditation on capitalism, integrity, loss, and perseverance. Garment Work PREVIEW is a ten-minute video documentation of Moore's durational performance.
  • Beech Forest - Viola Yesiltac The first installment of When Time Becomes Form, an ongoing performance series of long-durational work, curated by Marina Abramovic for Artists Space. The German artist Viola Yesiltac has noticed in recent years that her performances have more and more resembled photographs (standing against photo studio backdrops, she would make only the most minimal and mundane movements), and her photography has more and more looked like a performance (palpable traces of activity and feelings hovering in empty spaces). In her new project at Artist's Space, Yesiltac pinpoints time as the factor that charges her practice. In the place of Yesiltac, a paid actor will occupy the gallery at all times, standing in front of a photo backdrop frame. Yesiltac herself will visit the gallery every night to draw on the walls, tracing from a slide projection a Photograph by Albert Renger Patzsch Beech Forest, 1936. Juxtaposing these elements, Yesiltac manipulates two types of nowness: the frozen moment of the photograph becomes a natural and inexorable growth of lines on a wall; the infinitely extended, always unraveling moment of human presence aspires to the fixity of a photograph. Beech Forest is the first installment of When Time Becomes Form, an ongoing performance series of long-durational work, curated by Marina Abramovic for Artists Space. The series explores and questions issues of concentration, will power, and determination, and involves the artists' use of the entire gallery space for 6 ...

  • Nobile - Ivan Civic NOBILE is the second installment of When Time Becomes Form, an ongoing performance series of long-durational work, curated by Marina Abramovic for Artists Space. Ivan Civic's piece, NOBILE, was first staged at the 2007 Dance and Performance Biennale in Venice, as part of Body and Eros, a project by IPG (Independent Performance Group), curated by Marina Abramovic. Civic's performance at Artists Space further explores the obsessive narcissism and dependency on perfected images in Western culture. The work is also inspired by highly ritualized exercises in auto-***ism developed by nobility in the late 17th century. NOBILE is the second installment of When Time Becomes Form, an ongoing performance series of long-durational work, curated by Marina Abramovic for Artists Space. The series explores and questions issues of concentration, will power, and determination, and involves the artists' use of the entire gallery space for 6 hours during each day of their performance. Twelve distinct, but interrelated, durational performances, each created and presented by a different performance artist (a member of the Independent Performance Group (IPG)), will occupy the Main Space galleries between exhibitions. The entire series will unfold over the course of the next two years.

  • El Putnam "Status" May 25 2009 The Politics of Shoes @mobius El Putnam "Status" - Durational performance for all 3 evening of The Politics of Shoes @Mobius This work is a commentary on the treatment of shoes as a status symbol, determined by a variety of factors involving cultural identity, including class and gender. The reduction of the shoes to an outline while presenting only the information that the shoes are meant to symbolize plays with notion in a literal sense, pointing out that the use-value of a shoe extends beyond the need to protect the feet. My actions are also related to this commentary, with my pacing in intentionally uncomfortable shoes that will harm my feet functioning as a painful reminder of the concepts I present through this work.
  • Trust My Gut: A Drag Opera Surgery Bringing their fibres and performance art practices together, Marisa Hoicka and Johnny Forever work with themes of love and labour through drag aesthetics in a durational performative installation. Through their performantive bond, they make intimate relationships public and test the limits of trust and dependence. Working with both campy and surreal aesthetics, Hoicka and Forever find humour in these tender and confidential moments. The constructed division between public and private has been blurred and reconfigured endlessly throughout the history of theatrical entertainment. The advent of television turned private living rooms into arenas of the viewing "public." Today, internet video hosting platforms, such as YouTube further conflate the roles of perfomer and spectator. We are witnessing the creation of a new kind of theatre, one in which both house and stage take twin forms. Webcams record living room and bedroom dramas to be projected into other living rooms and bedrooms, the process replicated millions of times a day. Hoicka and Forever dramatize this phenomenon in Trust My Gut: A Drag Opera Surgery. The piece is an eight hour durational installation referencing Orlan's televised performance art plastic surgeries of the early nineties, relating high art shock and cabaret camp to the goings on in the private lives-made-public of everyday people. It is a living sculpture performed by characters selected from the drag oeuvre of Marisa ...

  • WonderSlow Rehearsal Excerpts WonderSlow by Dandelion Dancetheater and friends Co-Directed by Eric Kupers and David Ryther June 10th 2011, Sunrise -- Sunset (5:30AM -- 8:30PM, rain or shine) Frank Ogawa Plaza, Downtown Oakland, FREE Dandelion Dancetheater's WonderSlow is a 15-hour inclusive community performance that will take place at the Frank H. Ogawa Plaza in downtown Oakland. The durational work invokes slowness, time to wonder, and opportunities to connect with each other and our environment -- even if just for a moment. Originally inspired by stories from co-director Eric Kupers' family in relation to the Lawrence Ferlinghetti poem "I am Waiting" (particularly the line "I am perpetually awaiting the rebirth of Wonder"), WonderSlow will start at sunrise and last until sunset, culminating in a ceremonial performance based on Jewish Shabbat rituals. A wide network of artists and volunteers, as well as spontaneous passersby, will join Dandelion in this work to stage a series of intersecting performance events. Everyone is invited - to watch or take part in the performance on any level they would like. Each performance event will involve one or more meditative tasks and will be housed in a different area of the Plaza. Participants may follow simple instructions to take part, such as: travel slowly around the plaza within a single-file procession; copy simple movement done by a leader; create pendulum sculptures to hang in a community sculpture garden; make vocal tones with each exhale; pour water ...

My earnings were 85,43, 1 DM, and one box of Ferrero Küsschen Chocolate. Near the hat, I laid a sign on the floor which said: " The number of cases of domestic violence in the family rises during Christmas time." In Christmas time there are more expectations and there is more pressure in life. People begin to question and go over their success for that year. More people are drinking and families are together in small spaces for longer periods of time. This leads to more conflicts and stress. Also there is more financial pressure. Also in Christmas time there is the highest rate of suicide, separation and divorce. More Info about the project: silverbells24

Edited documentation. The performance took place in the Jacobean Undercroft, the only remaining part of the old palace of Greenwich, built in the 17th century. The work consists of 10 different poses/positions, each held for 20 minutes each. The performance lasted for just over 3 hours. A soundscape and a durational performance, are the main components of this work, which has been specially devised for the Undercroft space. The work is a response to the function and architecture of this ancient underground space, and is concerned with retrieval and reconstruction through action and collection. My original plan was to create a kind of temporary reliquary, containing objects that I found nearby. But instead I found myself collecting sounds and sampling the various noises one hears around the site of the old palace/new university. The conjunction of old and new is very marked in this building and this led me to try to create an environment in which I could explore and share my impressions, my feelings and to try to articulate how I might relate to this very specific space. My approach has been more tactile than visual, more physical than conceptual. I collected sounds, I collected impressions. I measured and I counted. I made noise and I fell ...
  • The Eighties This is an edit of a durational piece made in May 1986 which originally lasted one hour and only had incidental ambient noise on the soundtrack. It is more *** 'art' as it was originally made but this is the YouTube generation recut 21 years down the line. Other hour long durational pieces made in the eighties include a fabulous video of Pete Horobin and I taking afternoon tea that begins with a five minute static shot of the table before we sit down at it. We really knew how to make fun films back then... I love them, but YouTube doesn't carry hour long works, so you got this instead. My song on the soundtrack was also composed in the eighties, although this particular version was recorded in the nineties. But this static record of my head being shaved from a curly mop sums up the eighties for me. Immediately prior to this a friend in Hackney used to do my hair for me, and she also worked on Mel & Kim's barnets (so I met them a couple of times before they were famous when I headed down to Shakespeare Walk to get my hair cut)... Find out more about my movies, writing, pranks, gallery work etc at - and since I first put this up I have been getting a lot of comments about how much Britney Spears looks like me (don't forget I did this 20 years before her...)
  • Ultra-Fried Title: ULTRA-FRIED Duration: 3 MINUTES & 45 SECONDS Location: PERFORMED at PROTO THEATER, TAKADANOBABA, TOKYO Date: 7PM, MONDAY, JULY 23, 2007 Artist's Concept: ULTRA-FRIED, is a durational sound art installation collaborative project which begun in October 2006. The durational sound collaboration was sourced from four positions of the globe with fellow artist-volunteers (Htein Lin - London , Lynn Lu - Tokyo, Bruno Mercet - France) who exposed ordinary, unlabeled and transparent audio cassette tapes, sealed in glass jars, to the sunlight for months. The sun's rays, depending on their intensity, distorted the sensitive cassette tapes, creating unique impressions on the medium. These tapes were then put together to create one loop, with the audience invited to listen to the sound at the CCP (Cultural Center of the Philippines) exhibition through the intimacy of earphones. The idea of this installation is to capture the noiseless ultra-violet sunlight into sound and represent its effects and the seemingly inevitable damage done to our depleting ozone layer on a global scale, with the use of an on-the-brink-of-disappearance-and-almost-phased-out cassette tapea crude instrument compared to todays high-tech gadgets, store-everything DVDs, SDs and memory cardsto portray the urgency of the cause.
