6201 Princess Elizabeth on The Doric Olympian 6/3/10 On 6th March a opportunitty not be missed was to see LMS Priness Royal Class on southern section of the west coast main line. Hauled by 6201 Princess Elizabeth 1 of 2 of the class survive but only 1 operational did the The Doric Olympian from Crewe to Kensington Olympia and return with the return starting Euston this time this was 6201 first appearance at the LMS terminus for about 8 years, the tour had started from Birmingham New Street Diesel hauled. We first see the Princess running 30 minutes late storming through Harrow and Wealdstone where britians worst railway accidients happen in 1952 involving 3 trains including 6202 Princess Ann. We then see 6201 at britians busiest railway station Clapham Junction being prepared for return run. Then we see 6201 storming through Kensington Olympia heading for Willesden where it was to top and tail with 47773 into Euston. Then we see it at Euston ready for depature up Camden Bank. Finally 6201 gets right away from Euston. Sorry for the blind person that gets in the way making me move my tripod and zoom went abit wrong on last shot. Here we see 46201 Princess Elizabeth in action on its old territory (the West Coast Mainline) working 'The Doric Olympian' special from Birmingham to Kensington Olympia. 1. She approaches Kings Langley at around 60-75mph with a quite whistle working 1Z70 running 20 minutes late due to points failure on the Bletchley loop. 2. 6201 "Princess Elizabeth" at Nuneaton on The "Doric Olympian" (6.3.2010) Hi all, Here is a short video of Princess Royal Class 4-6-2 No6201 "Princess Elizabeth" hauling Vintage Trains Limited's "Doric Olympian" railtour, passing through Nuneaton Station, on March 6th 2010. The railtour began and Tyseley and ran Tyseley-Crewe-Rugby-Kensington Olympia, the train returned via the same route except it began its return run from London Euston station, allowing 6201 to take on Camden Bank on the homeward leg, recreating the days of 1930s Stanier Steam. 6201 hauled the train from Crewe-London-Crewe with the rest of the run begin hauled by Class 47 773 (owned by Tyseley). I was waiting at Nuneaton when 6201 appeared for its 10:28am passing time, on time I might add too! However, due to today's modern age, the huge 4-6-2 (+12 coaches+47 773) was routed via the DOWN SLOW line rather than the DOWN FAST line. This was somewhat a dissapointment as it meant that 6201 would come through Platform 5, perhaps the worst platform ever for video and photography! (As this video proves!!). If I'd have known she was on the DOWN SLOW then I would have tried a different location, near Marston Jabbett, a few miles further down the WCML but, what can you do?! I hope you enjoy this short video of the huge Princess Royal in action. Though we only see her briefly, she really is a glorious sight. Thank You.
