  • How to manually back up your MySQL databases from PHPMyAdmin There is nothing more precious than information on the internet. So why leave things to chance regarding your database data? You may have a database full of members, or you render out all of your pages using a Custom Content Management System, which usually stores page data in a MySQL database. In this quick video tutorial Adam shows you how to go into your PHPMyAdmin MySQL database interface and back up or save your sensative database information. There are a few ways that you could lose the data in your database, so creating backup insert files manually is an easy way for a webmaster to safeguard his or her data. First step in keeping your database secure is not allowing users to input harmful strings. Learn of strings that may harm your database and cancel them out in your form processing. But I am assuming your scripts are secure and that you would like to backup your database just in case anything may happen out of the ordinary. You can easily replace any lost data in a few minutes using this manual methid with PHPMyAdmin. Databases get created on your server either through your cpanel or if you are on GoDaddy or a host that has a custom control panel. Once made you have acces to PHPMyAdmin which is for interacting with your database from a not too technical online interface. So not only is it handy but it teaches you code to write scripts that can interact with your database at runtime. HOT TIP: I have learned a lot of PHP-MySQL syntax from using ...
  • Large image databases and small codes for object recognition Google Tech Talks May, 8 2008 ABSTRACT With the advent of the Internet, billions of images are now freely available online and constitute a dense sampling of the visual world. Using a variety of non?parametric methods, we explore this world with the aid of a large dataset of 79302017 images collected from the Web. Motivated by psychophysical results showing the remarkable tolerance of the human visual system to degradations in image resolution, the images in the dataset are stored as 32x32 color images. Each image is loosely labeled with one of the 75062 non?abstract nouns in English, as listed in the Wordnet lexical database. Hence the image database gives a comprehensive coverage of all object categories and scenes. The semantic information from Wordnet can be used in conjunction with nearest?neighbor methods to perform object classification over a range of semantic levels minimizing the effects of labeling noise. For certain classes that are particularly prevalent in the dataset, such as people, we are able to demonstrate a recognition performance comparable to class?specific Viola?Jones style detectors. In the second part of the talk, we present efficient image search and scene matching techniques that are not only fast, but also require very little memory, enabling their use on standard hardware or even on handheld devices. Our approach uses the Semantic Hashing idea of Salakhutdinov and Hinton, based on Restricted Boltzmann Machines to convert the Gist descriptor (a ...

  • SQL Stored Procedures and Views - Cloud Database SQL Azure You can improve database performance by using stored procedures and views. A SQL stored procedure is compiled SQL code. Benefits of stored procedures include faster execution, parameters support, security mechanism, and simplification of complex code. In our demo tutorial video on SQL azure, we create one stored procedure that pulls data from CUSTOMER table using two input parameters. The next SQL stored proc processes data from PRODUCTS and CATEGORIES tables where we can do Products by Category. First we create a new table with a Clustered Index in SQL Azure. Using an INNER JOIN with GROUP BY, we pull the Average price for each CATEGORY. We insert this into Summary table, this is still part of the Azure stored procedure. A SQL view which is simply a virtual table. Advantages of SQL views include simplicity of complex code, security mechanism and the ability to use SELECT statement. We create a view between two tables in the cloud database on SQL Azure server.

  • Children's Databases 1 of 3 CONTACTPOINT :This is the first in a series of three films looking at UK government plans for two national children's databases: Contactpoint and eCAF. Contactpoint, sometimes called the 'Children's Index', 'Information Sharing Index' or 'Children's Database', will be a central identity register of every under-18 in England together with details of all of the services that they use. Its cousin, the eCAF database will contain in-depth personal assessments of children and young people using any service other than basic education and health care -- that's around 50% of under-18s. Together with information security experts, child protection specialists and children's rights advocates, ARCH has spent the last 4 years trying to get the government to understand that large, centralised databases of children's private information are a dangerous and misguided idea. These films explain why. The cast list includes Professor Ross Anderson, Dr Ian Brown, Dr Liz Davies, Shami Chakrabarti and Terri Dowty. We are very grateful to Kate Munro for all the work she put into making the films, and to Glyn Wintle of the Open Rights Group for converting them into the right format. • LISP Part 2 - Mapping Database Infrastructure and Interworking Google Tech Talk February 17, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Dino Farinacci. In Part 1, we discussed how endpoint IDs and routing Locators are used to provide a level of indirection for routing and addressing. This session will describe all the database mapping algorithms we have considered for mapping an EID to a set of Locators. We will take about the technical challenges of each and brainstorm about the business models that develop as a result of each mapping database algorithm. We will then show how LISP can be deployed to interoperate non-LISP site that run IPv4 and/or IPv6 for a seamless integration. Dino Farinacci: Dino originally joined Cisco in spring of 1991 and was one of the first two Cisco Fellows. He has built routers for 27 years. Dino currently works in the Data Center Business Unit at cisco where his focus is on building a next-generation platform and operating system for Enterprise and Data Center environments. This platform is the Nexus 7000 running NX-OS which shipped in April of 2008. His expertise specializes in routing protocols where he has intimate knowledge and implementation experience with IS-IS, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IGMP, PIM, and MSDP, as well as IPv6 and MPLS protocols. He is an advocate for modular operating systems. Dino also has been a member of the IETF for 19 years making many contributions over this period of time. Dino has worked for Cisco since early 1991 but was away for 5 years at Procket Networks where he help build the highest speed and ...
