Ghost Estates- Riverside Portarlington A recent report feaured on TV3 news about ghost estates around the country. The Riverside estate in Portarlington is one of the worst in the country due to the poor quality of the houses that were built there. The builder has finished the estate but has since gone bankrupt and is at the moment facing a term in Prison for contempt of court and oweing nearly 4 million euro to Anglo. These houses are prefabricated polystyrene homes, not exactly the right type of homes for the Irish climate, as you can see in the video there is a major problem with dampness and leaks in most of these homes due to the extremely poor quality of construction. I really feel sorry for the people who have bought these homes and have to live with the constant knightmare of leaks, mould and dampness. how can they ever sell these homes after the way this builder has left them and will he ever come back to pay for the damage he has caused.

However, they do measure conductivity between the two nodes which should be low or zero when testing a dry, normal structural mass, I would imagine. This footage shows the meter reading the interior sections around our porch, and seems to be detecting high levels of conductivity around the lower section of the plastered exterior wall, which has recently been treated with anti-fungal paint to stop the mould growth. Ep. 60 Lancaster City Homes And Dampness Today I give a few pointers about the need to control dampness in and around homes in Lancaster City. Was at a home inspection where dampness from a common alleyway had apparently infiltrated into the living room and the finished basement. Given the fact that there isn't much green space (none in some locations) to route rain runoff to, and uneven concrete surfaces in the older urban environment, it's critical to be aware of where the water is going to around your Lancaster City PA home. Especially important areas to watch are the common walkways between city homes. Some are at the main level and some actually step down to the basement level and back up again to the backyard. These areas don't get much sunlight and can stay damp or even puddled long after a rain. These areas and poor downspout routing are the major troublemakers, So, if you have a Lancaster City home be sure to watch your water runoff and try to avoid damp areas or water up against your foundation. Rising Damp Causes and Cure ( www.horizonpreservation.com ) For more detailed info visit our blog at ( http ) Rising damp is caused by capillary suction of the fine pores or voids that occur in all masonry materials. The capillaries draw water from the soils beneath a building against the force of gravity, leading to damp zones at the base of walls. In most cases that dampness will have salt associated with it. The salt commonly comes from the soils beneath and is carried up into walls by rising damp. When the dampness evaporates from the walls the salts are left behind, slowly accumulating to the point where there are sufficient to cause damage. Repeated wetting and drying with seasonal changes leads to the cyclic precipitation of salts and the progressive decay of the masonry. Once salt concentrations are high enough to cause damage, repairs will only be successful if they include treatment of both the damp and the salt. Therefore it is necessary to remove the contaminated plaster and re-plaster using a 3:1 sand-cement render incorporating a salt retardant additive. Treating the rising damp; a damp-proofing cream is injected into holes drilled in the mortar course every 150mm and spreads in the wall before curing to form a damp proof course.
