  • "Driving through the Rhone Valley" Tommcatt's photos around Valence, France A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Valence, France by TravelPod blogger Tommcatt titled "Driving through the Rhone Valley" Tommcatt's travel blog entry: "And we're back! Internet was pretty much non existent though the french countryside; so sorry for the late blog posts. At any rate; we decided in order to see the wine regions of France you have to drive, so yep, we rented a car! Freedom from bus, train, and metro schedules is amazing. Our first stop out of Provence was Orange, the gateway to the Rhone Valley. But as it was a Sunday, and a holiday, there wasn't much to see, so we took off to drive through the vineyards of the famous Chateaunuf-de-pape region. It is better than you thought, seriously. We found a couple domaines in the hills that were actually open on Sunday, and then headed into the town where we had probably the best experience on our entire trip. We came upon a small wine shop, and the owner poured us the best wine we'd ever had, and topped it off with stories about the wine, his family, life in the Rhone, you name it. It was truly an unforgettable experience; and unforgettable wine, which we'll be saving a bottle of for our 10th anniversary... when it will be at its prime. The next day we visited the St. Joseph region of the Rhone; further north. Again, amazing wine and amazing people. You're supposed to call ahead to make an appointment with the smaller chateaus; but since we don't have a phone, our strategy was to drive down the ...

  • Vinfolio Tasting Video: 2005 Robin, Gilles - Crozes-Hermitage 1920 In this video we taste 2005 Robin, Gilles - Crozes-Hermitage 1920. "A fine example of Rhone Syrah - for me, the "cozy" enveloping fruit make this Crozes an ideal choice for fireside drinking. It has a dark bluish-ruby core with aromas of black pepper, tar, olives, game, and black fruits. In the mouth, I was delighted by the balance of minerality and smooth black cherry flavor. The fine-grained tannins make this easy to drink and should allow for additional aging. The finish was medium plus and rather appealing by the persistence of the lush fruit. A very good quality wine." - Laura Conway, Content Editor at Vinfolio
