  • Oil Cooled Computer This is my attempt at a Mineral Oil Submersion cooled computer, followed after the attempt by Puget Custom Computers at www.pugetsystems.com After constantly fighting with loud fans, heat, and dust with my computer, I stumbled upon PCC's video about submerging a computer in mineral oil. I researched it further and ultimately decided to try it myself. I'm so glad I did! There is no noise at all, even my new computer in an Antec 900 case on lowest settings is unbearably loud after experiencing the lack of noise from this system. The only way to tell if its on is to see if the fans are spinning :) Total stability as the oil equalizes the temperatures from all components. And its completely dust free forever! In the second half of the video I purchased a small 70gph water fountain pump for $20 and a heatercore for a 1973 Ford F250 that I had bought earlier for my truck for about $14, 1/2" vinyl tubing and clamps $7. Please comment! and I will try to answer any questions to the best of my ability. -Grey Song is "Wide Open Spaces" by Mansun

  • SICP / What is "Computer Science" ? Hal Abelson gives an introduction to the "Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs" lecture with an explanation of Declarative and Imperative programming. Excerpted and adapted from Hal Abelson, "Introductory Undergraduate Subjects in Computer Science":- 6.001 differs from typical introductory computer science subjects in using Scheme (a block-structured dialect of Lisp) rather than Pascal as its programming vehicle. The subject's developers feel strongly that Pascal is hopelessly constraining, and that important ideas (such as functional programming and object-oriented programming) can be addressed within Pascal only awkwardly, if at all. In addition, they consider top-down hierarchical design, so often emphasized as a central theme in computer programming subjects, to be a minor and relatively simplistic strategy in the programmer's arsenal for attacking complex problems. mitpress.mit.edu

  • Mouseless - an invisible computer mouse Mouseless is an invisible computer mouse. It provides the familiarity of interaction of a physical mouse without actually needing a real hardware mouse. As the computer mouse has remained largely unchanged over the last decades, we have become increasingly proficient at operating the two-button mouse. Recently, various multitouch and gestural interaction technologies have been explored as means to implement alternative methods to interact with a computer. Despite these advances in computing hardware technologies, the two-button computer mouse has remained the predominant means to interact with a computer. The Mouseless invention removes the requirement of having a physical mouse altogether but still provides the intuitive interaction of a physical mouse that we are familiar with. Mouseless consists of an Infrared (IR) laser beam and an Infrared camera. Both IR laser and IR camera are embedded in the computer. The laser beam module is modified with a line cap and placed such that it creates a plane of IR laser just above the surface the computer sits on. The user cups their hand, as if a physical mouse was present underneath, and the laser beam lights up the hand which is in contact with the surface. The IR camera detects those bright IR blobs using computer vision. The change in the position and arrangements of these blobs are interpreted as mouse cursor movement and mouse clicks. As the user moves their hand the cursor on screen moves accordingly. When the user taps ...

  • Computer Bug The praying mantis is real, but it is hungry enough to try to catch and eat the cursor. He had been in the house for four days - prowling for insects around the ceilings. The sound effects accidently supplied by the dog next-door (no - mantises don't bark). The screen background is by the Bureau of Meterology. The mantis was patient enough that we were able to set up lighting - as long as we kept moving the mouse. (Notice how he keeps one foot on the top of the screen. Earlier he had tried to come down further, but skidded on the surface, and from then was more cautious). No insects, cursors or mice were harmed in the making of this movie. The mantis was returned to the wild. www.rodnmaria.id.au

  • The Computer *DISCLAIMER* For those of you complaining about me destroying this computer please take note; I found the computer sitting next to a dumpster in the pouring rain. When I got the computer home, I checked to see if it would even turn on and it wouldn't. The hard drive was falling out of it. The monitor didn't even work either. It was soaked. It was complete trash. (probably why it was in the trash...) So why not completely destroy it... I do have some common sense. Thank you. =] This was done like, 2 months ago, but I finally found time to edit it. Hope you like it! I know I had fun! XD I made the music!
