Fibre Composite Adaptive Systems for James Dyson Awards 2010 Fibre Composite Adaptive Systems Project at Architectural Association by Sakthivel Ramaswamy, Konstantinos Karatzas and Maria Mingallon. 'Fibre composite adaptive systems' is a research project which emulates self-organisation processes in nature by developing a fibre composite that can sense, actuate and hence efficiently adapt to changing environmental conditions. Fibre composites which are anisotropic and heterogeneous offer the possibility for local variations in their material properties. Embedded fibre optics would be used to sense multiple parameters and shape memory alloys integrated in a fibre composite material for actuation. The definition of the geometry, both locally and globally would complement the adaptive functions and hence the system would display 'Integrated Functionality'.

Composite elements to Cartoon Cat animation... ...This vid is a response to the "Speed Painting a Cartoon Cat" vid. I threw this together real quick, cuz I can see I'm gonna get "how" questions regarding the whole animation process at the end of that video. I can't really delve into the specifics, except to say that it was done in Newtek's Lightwave- which is a great program for "animating your paintings" and concept art, without having to strive for the traditional standard finished 3D look you see in today's movies. I think thre is a lot of unexplored ground out there in certain styles of animation involving such. I have found (for this technique) that Lightwave is the fastest way to accomplishing these techniques when you are on a time budget. Using iWeb for Image Composites - part 1 All Macs come with iWeb pre-installed. It's in your Applications folder, if you didn't already know. iWeb has several nice features for dealing with images, including "Instant Alpha", drop shadows, reflections(!), pre-defined shapes, gradients, some *very cool* lines, Text tools -- all can be combined any way you want. Once you have everything arranged, all you need to do is use the system wide copy-screen tool. Using command-shift-4 gives you the option of outlining the area on the screen you want to copy and places a PNG (as of Leopard) on your desktop. Preview can be used to convert the image to any other graphics format you need -- including Photoshop PSD, although I recommend keeping the PNG format for web graphics. ...
