IoNa BeAcH In the back yard of Vancouver airport, beautiful Iona beach. I have been collecting material for quite a while for this one. And then came along the wonderful track from my dear friends Marcus and his brother James who together make up Chordophone. It immediately gelled and afterwards it became impossible to tear apart the music from the video or the video from the music. So, here they are, glued to each other. At the end you can see that the area is, how should I say, ...multipurpose?
I'm Yours -- Ukulele The ukulele sometimes abbreviated as the uke, is a chordophone classified as a plucked lute; it is a subset of the guitar family of instruments, generally with four nylon or gut strings or four courses of strings. The ukulele originated in the 19th century as a Hawaiian interpretation of a small guitar-like instrument brought to Hawaiʻi by Portuguese immigrants. It gained great popularity elsewhere in the United States during the early 20th century, and from there spread internationally. Tone and volume of the instrument vary with size and construction. Ukuleles commonly come in four sizes: soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone.
Kazakh National Instrument- Kobyz The Kobyz (Kazakh: қобыз) or kyl-kobyz is an ancient Kazakh string instrument (chordophone) of the type known as a bowed lyre. It has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather. Traditionally kobyzes were sacred instruments, owned by shamans and bakses (traditional spiritual medics). In the 1930s, when the first folk instrument orchestras were established in the Soviet republic of Kazakhstan, a new kind of kobyz came into existence. It now had four metallic strings and thus became closer to a violin. Such a modernized kobyz can be used to play both Kazakh music and the most complicated works of violin literature. One of the few western musicians to use the kobyz is Trefor Goronwy. Performed by Janar Abenova.

DELTAR The Deltar is unique among musical instruments, based upon Calculus and a passion for art, Professor Ali has created something both beautiful in appearance and in sound Deltar is a stringed instrument, the body is hand crafted using sustainable materials that allow for warmth, expression and volume. It's strength of sound is due to the unusual tetrahedron shape of the body. This design is the direct result of many years in acoustic research; Professor Ali's specialist field. The Deltar has 12 strings that can be tuned in a number of ways (see the resource section for more information). It is designed to be played with two hands, but in truth there are no rules to how a musician should express himself with the Deltar.

Nyckelharpa at Jerusalem's Fair A nyckelharpa (literally "key harp", plural nyckelharpor or sometimes keyed fiddle) is a traditional Swedish musical instrument. It is a string instrument or chordophone. Its keys are attached to tangents which, when a key is depressed, serve as frets to change the pitch of the string. The nyckelharpa is similar in appearance to a fiddle or the bowed Byzantine lira. Structurally, it is more closely related to the hurdy gurdy, both employing key-actuated tangents to change the pitch. (wikipedia)

It is the first instrument that can support more than 300 notes and 10 people can play it together at the same time. It is the first instrument that can be played in different ways: chordophone, percussion, by archet and fingers. The shape of Farsh is inspirited from the carpet frame. The strings are installed in both sides of the instrument and it can be played in vertical and horizontal situations. MAGISOUND: USING YOUR PHONE AS A VIRTUAL INSTRUMENT In this project, we have investigated the application of our magnetic interaction framework to music playing. Here we have implemented an application on an iPhone that enables the user to play an instrument of his choice (eg, chordophones, percussions or guitar) by imitating a music playing gestures around the phone. Again the interaction between the user and the instrument (phone) is attained trough tracking the movement of the magnet in the player's hand by the phone via its magnetic sensor. This can allow for a natural, comfortable and flexible interaction for such an application that requires a high degree of interaction as well as a fast feedback on user's actions.
