The Battle of Waterloo - Charge of the British Heavy Cavalry "At this crucial juncture, Uxbridge ordered his two brigades of British heavy cavalry, formed unseen behind the ridge, to charge in support of the hard-pressed infantry. Continuing their attack, the squadrons on the left of the Household Brigade then destroyed Aulard's brigade. Despite attempts to recall them, however, they continued past La Haye Sainte and found themselves at the bottom of the hill on blown horses facing Schmitz's brigade formed in squares. Napoleon promptly responded by ordering a counter-attack by the cuirassier brigades of Farine and Travers and Jaquinot's two lancer regiments in the I Corps light cavalry division. The result was very heavy losses for the British cavalry." From the movie Waterloo.

Il Silencio - Neapolitan cavalry call from Italy Music student Melissa Venema plays Il Silenzio by trumpet composer Nini Rosso. It is an Neapolitan cavalry call from Italy (see p. 540 in the article "The Trumpet in Camp and Battle" from The Century Magazine, vol. 34, 1898 (very interesting article online). It also shows how the US call Tattoo (now to be played 15 minutes before Taps as a warning call), the longest US call in the book, is actually a combination of the British and French calls for "lights out" with a distinctly American tag or coda at the end. It is interesting to note that this particular article does mention Taps (but not by name), a relatively new call in 1898, as it was supposedly composed by Union General Dan Butterfield one night during a lull in the fighting during the Civil War. He dictated/sang it to his bugler and his adjutant wrote down the musical notation. The truth is, nobody seems to really know exactly where taps came from.

7th Cavalry Regiment (Regimental March) The 7th Cavalry Regiment is a United States Army cavalry regiment, whose lineage traces back to the mid-19th century. Its official nickname is "Garryowen", in honour of the Irish drinking song Garryowen that was adopted as its march tune. Lyrics: We are the pride of the army, And a regiment of great renown, Our names on the pages of history, From sixty six on down. If you think we stop or falter, While into the fray were goin' Just watch the step with our heads erect When our band plays "Garry Owen." In the Fighting Sevenths' the place for me. It's the cream of all the cavalry; No other regiment ever can claim Its pride, honor, glory, and undying fame. We know no fear when stern duty Calls us far away from home, Our country's flag shall sagely o'er us wave, No matter where we roam. Tis the gallant Seventh Cavalry, It matters not where we're going such you'll surely say as we march away, When our band plays "Garry Owen." Then hurrah for our brave commanders! Who lead us into the fight. We'll do or die in our country's cause. And battle for the right. And when the war is o'er And to our home we're going Just watch the step, with our head erect, When our band plays, "Garry Owen." Performed by the USAF Heritage of America Band.

BLACK HORSE REGIMENT: 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment BEST COMBAT UNIT in Vietnam 2/3 The 11th ACR's M113 Gavin cross-country mobility was continually used to force the enemy out of hiding and into blocking force positions. Once the area was swept clear of VC/NVA trying to hide in closed terrain, roads became safe for civilians to pass and restore faith in the central government we were supporting. Armored assault scissors bridges mobile on tracked tanks enabled spots of road blown up by the enemy or washed out by the weather to be kept functional. During Operation Junction City in concert with 173rd Airborne Brigades parachute jumps, the 11th ACR used bulldozers to clear the terrain to the left and right of the main roads so anyone trying to lay land mines or hand weapon ambushes would be immediately spotted from the air and attacked. Airborne FACs with O-1 Bird Dogs (not BS UAVs) insured fighter-bomber CAS was rapidly available to the 11th ACR to pile on the ***s after they found the enemy. Note the rare Korean war combat veteran Hiller OH-23 Raven "killer bee" observation/attack helicopter used in Vietnam to keep commanders in touch with armored ground maneuver elements; you can also see this helicopter in action in the James Bond 007 movies, "From Russia with Love" and "Goldfinger" www.olive- Black Horse Soldiers trained ARVN Soldiers how to use weapons to better defend themselves. Australian troops received OJT and swept the VC/NVA clear 11th ACR convoy escorts often prevented the VC/NVA from ambushing ...

Persian Soldier ( Sassanian Cavalry)-Sassanian dynasty The Sassanid Empire (Persian: ساسانیان IPA: [sɒsɒnijɒn]) is the name of the last Persian Empire with Zoroastrian rulers, which reigned over Iran from 224-651. The Sassanid Empire was recognized as one of the two main powers in Western Asia and Europe (the other being the Byzantine Empire) for a period of more than 400 years.[1] The Sassanid dynasty was founded by Ardashir I after defeating the last Parthian (Arsacid) king, Artab*** IV Ardavan) and ended when the last Sassanid Shahanshah (King of Kings), Yazdegerd III (632651), lost a series of battles against the Arab Caliphate, the first of the Islamic empires. The Sassanid empire, which translates to Eranshahr ("The Iranian Empire") in Middle Persian[2][3], encompassed all of today's Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Armenia, the southern Caucasus (including southern Dagestan), southwestern Central Asia, parts of Turkey, parts of Syria, some coastal parts of the Arabian Peninsula, Persian Gulf area, and some parts of southwestern Pakistan. The Sassanid era, encompassing the length of the Late Antiquity period, is considered to be one of Iran's most important and influential historical periods. In many ways the Sassanid period witnessed the highest achievement of Persian civilization, and constituted the last great Iranian Empire before the Muslim conquest and adoption of Islam.[4] Persia influenced Roman civilization considerably during the Sassanids' times,[5] and both empires reserved for each other the status of ...

Vietnam War: 1st Air Cavalry Division on Patrol - Part 3 (1971) Watch the full film: CAB, 1st Cavalry Division traces its history to early 1963, when the Army began to gather helicopters into the 11th Air Assault Division to test the airmobile concept. Shortly thereafter, they were reassigned to the 1st Cavalry Division. On 1 August 1965, the 1st Cavalry Division was sent to Vietnam. Aviators participated in 14 campaigns and received seven decorations during its seven years of duty in Vietnam. The first Army aviator to win the Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War was a member of the 227th Aviation Battalion. US Army CH-21 helicopter transports arrived in Vietnam on 11 December 1961. Air assault operations using South Vietnamese (ARVN) troops began 12 days later in Operation Chopper. These were very successful at first but the Viet Cong (VC) began developing counter helicopter techniques and at Ap Bac on January 1963, 13 of 15 helicopters were hit and four shot down. The Army began adding machine guns and rockets to their smaller UH-1 Huey helicopters and developed the first purpose built gunship, the UH-1B with the M-6E3 armament system. US Marine helicopter squadrons began four month rotations through Vietnam as part of Operation SHUFLY on 15 April 1962. Six days later, they performed the first helicopter assault using US Marine helicopters and ARVN troops. After April 1963 as losses began to mount, US Army UH-1 Huey gunships escorted the Marine transports. The VC again used effective counter landing ...
Stop The Cavalry - Jona Lewie • Lyrics • Stop The Cavalry by Jona Lewie. First of December xmas song. This song sends out an amazing message that we should not be fighting in wars. At all.
The Household Cavalry 2007 The Household Cavalry filmed at South Carriage Drive and The Mall in London on the day of Trooping the Colour. The custom of Trooping the Colour dates back to the time of Charles II in the 17th. Century when the Colours of a regiment were used as a rallying point in battle and were therefore trooped in front of the soldiers every day to make sure that every man could recognise those of his own regiment. In London, the Foot Guards used to do this from 1755 onwards as part of their daily Guard Mounting on Horse Guards and the ceremonial of the modern Trooping the Colour parade is along similar lines. In 1805 the parade was for the first time carried out to celebrate the Sovereign's birthday. This impressive display of pageantry is now held on the occasion of the Queen's Official Birthday. It takes place in June each year to celebrate the official Birthday of the Sovereign and is carried out by her personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade, with the Queen herself attending and taking the salute. BLACK HORSE REGIMENT: 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment BEST COMBAT UNIT in Vietnam 1/3 America's most capable and successful combat unit in Vietnam was the 11th Armored Cavalry (ACR) "Black Horse" Regiment--bar none. Watch this amazing documentary and learn what RIGHT LOOKS LIKE. Light mechanized M113 Gavins with armored cavalry assault vehicle (ACAV aka female machine gun light tank) gunshield kits can roam cross-country at-will to maneuver where needed to dominate fluid, non-linear battlefield (NLB) situations: Even Vietnam's closed terrain couldn't stop 11th ACR ground and air cavalry maneuver. The 11th ACR was a self-contained cavalry formation (today it's the OPFOR at Fort Irwin, NTC but has deployed to combat in Iraq) with its own M48 Patton medium and M551 Sheridan light tanks backed by M109 105mm and 155mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs). It even had its own mini-Air Force of a "ThunderHorse" air cavalry troop with UH-1 Huey helicopter gunships that could also insert/extract aeroscouts. The first thing the Black Horse Regiment did was to invite the VC/NVA to try to ambush them on their main supply route (MSR) which when they flanked them by cross-country maneuver resulted in the enemy being wiped out; restoring civilian use of linear roads. NONE OF THIS TRACKED COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS CAN BE DONE IN STRYKER OR HUMVEE WHEELED TRUCKS. The VC/NVA would kick our asses today if we tried to fight them in our current BS wheeled trucks. YOUTUBE user sonofrattler writes: "Anyone interested in The Blackhorse should read ...
