  • Chris Tolles Drives News Comments to Established Media Sites In today's New York Times, Brad Stone writes about the recent announcement Google to place comments around news stories from media organizations on the Google site. There's been a lot of concern among major media that this constitutes a further cannibalization of original reporting by search engines and content aggregators. Brad interviews CEO Chris Tolles. Topix generates more that 60000 comments a day from news. Many of these comments are generated around local stories and are syndicated to local newspapers and local news web sites. About a third of the comments generated every day go to sites owned by the Tribune and Gannett newspaper chains. YouTube recently launched a new section on its site for full-length episodes that includes programming from MGM, BBC, CBS, Crackle and Lionsgate and others. Also, late last month, YouTube inked a deal with Sony to carry shows and movies from the studio. The site's push into premium content is essential to winning advertisers, who are still more comfortable backing professional videos. Reitzes said, "Even accounting for potential cannibalization of other products, we believe iPad adds at least $1.00 in EPS power quickly & $20 plus in value to Apple's shares. Reiterate 1-OW." In addition, Barclays said, "We are raising estimates to include iPad & related revenues, partially offset by some cannibalization of other devices. We estimate Apple will ship 2.9mm devices in FY10 & 7.3mm in FY11." "We now estimate F2Q EPS of $2.32 (was $2.29) on 29% y/y revenue growth to $11.74B (was $11.6B).
