- Burl Ives - "Holly Jolly Christmas" "Happy Holidays" to all my viewers & subscribers. I'd like to say "Thank You" to all for your comments and support. You've made what I do here worth the effort. I really do appreciate it! Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives (June 14, 1909 -- April 14, 1995) was an American actor, writer and folk music singer. Ives was born in 1909 near Hunt City, an unincorporated town in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Levi "Frank" Ives (1880--1947) and Cordelia "Dellie" White (1882--1954). He had six siblings: Audry, Artie, Clarence, Argola, Lillburn, and Norma. His father was at first a farmer and then a contractor for the county and others. One day Ives was singing in the garden with his mother, and his uncle overheard them. He invited his nephew to sing at the old soldiers' reunion in Hunt City. The boy performed a rendition of the folk ballad "Barbara Allen" and impressed both his uncle and the audience. Ives had a long-standing relationship with the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Lone Scout before that group merged with the Boy Scouts of America in 1924. The collection of his papers at the New York Library for the Performing Arts includes a photograph of Ives being "inducted" into the Boy Scouts in 1966.Ives received the organization's Silver Buffalo Award, its highest honor. The certificate for the award is hanging on the wall of the Scouting Museum in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Ives often performed at the quadrennial Boy Scouts of America jamboree, including the 1981 jamboree at Fort AP ...

- A little bitty tear - JR Shatzeline ( Burl Ives cover) A little bitty tear- Burl Ives cover by JR Shatzeline Hope you enjoy ! Burl Ives songs. A little bitty tear (Burl Ives, written by Hank Cochran) A little bitty tear let me down, spoiled my act as a clown I had it made up not to make a frown, but a little bitty tear let me down. You said you were leaving tomorrow That today was our last day I said there'd be no sorrow, that I'd laugh when you walked away. But A little bitty tear let me down, spoiled my act as a clown I had it made up not to make a frown, but a little bitty tear let me down. I said I'd laugh when you left me Pull a funny as you went out the door That I'd have another one waiting And I'd wave goodbye as you go. But A little bitty tear let me down, spoiled my act as a clown I had it made up not to make a frown, but a little bitty tear let me down. Everything went like a planned it And really put on quite a show In my heart I felt I could stand it Till you walked with your *grip* through the door. Then A little bitty tear let me down, spoiled my act as a clown I had it made up not to make a frown, oh -but a little bitty tear let me down. A little bitty tear let me down. - Burl Ives 'Big Rock Candy Mountain' #62-Most Responded(Today)-Music Copyright owner: UMG "Big Rock Candy Mountain" is a song about a hobo's idea of paradise. The song describes a hobo's vision of utopia, a place where the "hens lay soft boiled eggs" and there are "cigarette trees". The song is also rather ironic and satirical in that it additionally describes mollified versions of things that one wouldn't think should exist in paradise at all, such as police (with wooden legs) and jail bars (made of tin), but sound appealing to someone whose lifestyle runs afoul of the law. In proof of his authorship of the song, McClintock published the original words, the last stanza of which was: The punk rolled up his big blue eyes And said to the jocker, "Sandy, I've hiked and hiked and wandered too, But I ain't seen any candy. I've hiked and hiked till my feet are sore And I'll be damned if I hike any more To be buggered sore like a hobo's whore In the Big Rock Candy Mountains." lol.

- Johnny Cash and Burl Ives (medley) From the April 22, 1970 edition of "The Johnny Cash Show," Burl Ives and Johnny sing and play a medley of Civil War-era ballads, including "Oh Mary Don't You Weep" and an insanely infectious little ditty called "Goober's Peas". I had to cut a short bit near the beginning to keep the clip to under 10 minutes; that's the clumsy edit at about the 2:20 mark — my fault, not the producers of "The Johnny Cash Show".

LINK: With his grandfatherly image, Burl Ives parlayed his talent as a folksinger into a wide-ranging career as a radio personality and stage and screen actor. After spending his early 20s traveling the country as an itinerant singer, Ives moved to New York City in 1937. By the end of 1938, he had made his Broadway debut, and he also sang folk songs in Greenwich Village clubs. In 1940, Ives began to appear regularly on radio, including his own show, The Wayfarin' Stranger, on CBS. Ives made his first records for Stinson, a small folk label, then was signed to Decca, a major label. He made his movie debut in Smoky in 1946. In 1948, his first book, Wayfaring Stranger, was published. In 1949, he had his first chart hit with "Lavender Blue (Dilly Dilly)." The same year, he moved to Columbia Records. With the advent of the long-playing record, Ives suddenly had a flurry of LP releases from his three labels: The Wayfaring Stranger on Stinson; three volumes of Ballads & Folk Songs, Women: Folk Songs About the Fair ***, Folk Songs Dramatic and Humorous, and Christmas Day in the Morning on Decca; and Wayfaring Stranger, Return of the Wayfaring Stranger, More Folk Songs, American Hymns, The Animal Fair and Mother Goose Songs on Columbia. - Burl Ives - The Little Engine That Could Hi! Please visit our website, Rock The Jukebox: www.rock-the- There was a little railroad train with loads and loads of toys All starting out to find a home with little girls and boys And as that little railroad train began to chug along The little engine up in front was heard to sing this song Choo choo, choo choo, choo choo, choo choo, I feel so good today Oh, clear the track, oh clickety clack, I'll go my merry way The little train went roaring on, so fast, it seemed to fly Until it reached a mountain rising almost to the sky The little engine moaned and groaned and huffed and puffed away But halfway to the top it just gave up and seemed to say I can't go on, I can't go on, I'm weary as can be I can't go on, I can't go on, this job is not for me The toys got out to push but all in vain alas, alack And then a great big engine came a whistling down the track They asked if it would kindly pull them up the mountain side But with a high and mighty sneer it scornfully replied Don't bother me, don't bother me to pull the likes of you Don't bother me, don't bother me, I've better things to do The toys all started crying 'cause that engine was so mean And then there came another one, the smallest ever seen But though it seemed that she could hardly pull herself along She hitched on to the train and as she pulled she sang this song I think I can, I think I can, I think I have a plan And I can do 'most anything if I only think I can Then up that great big mountain with ...
