  • The Buddha Nature doctrine important for many schools of Mahayana Buddhism. The Buddha Nature or Buddha Principle (Buddha-dhatu) is taught to be a truly real, but internally hidden, eternal potency or immortal element within the purest depths of the mind, present in all sentient beings, for awakening and becoming a Buddha. In some Mahayana sutras it is equated with the eternal Buddhic Self, the Essence (svabhava) or Soul (atman) which is nothing less than the uncreated and deathless Buddha himself. Nagarjuna, the founder of Madhyamaka, presents a view that states that Buddha-nature is Shunyata (empty).[citation needed] The primary sutras on Buddha-nature maintain that what the Buddha-nature is empty of is not its own ever-enduring reality but impermanence, impurity, moral defects, and suffering - in other words, the painful constrictions and imperfections of samsara.

  • How did Gautama Buddha reach Enlightenment (Nirvana)? Born in Lumbini, Nepal, Siddhartha was destined to a luxurious life as a prince, had three palaces especially built for him. Siddhartha escaped his palace, accompanied by Channa aboard his horse Kanthaka, leaving behind this royal life to become a mendicant. Sitting under a banyan tree, now known as the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya (Bihar, India), he vowed never to arise until he had found the Truth. After 49 days meditating, at the age of 35, he attained Enlightenment (Nirvana). Gautama, from then on, was known as the Buddha or "Awakened One." Buddha is also sometimes translated as "The Enlightened One." Often, he is referred to in Buddhism as Shakyamuni Buddha or "The Awakened One of the Shakya Clan." Gautama Buddha is mentioned as an Avatar of Vishnu in the Puranic texts of Hinduism. In the Bhagavata Purana he is twenty fourth of twenty five avatars, prefiguring a forthcoming final incarnation. A number of Hindu traditions portray Buddha as the most recent of ten principal avatars, known as the "Dasavatara" (Ten Incarnations of God). The Buddhist Dasharatha Jataka (Jataka Atthakatha) represents Rama as a previous incarnation of the Buddha as a Bodhisattva and Supreme Dharma King of great wisdom.

  • Medicine Buddha Mantra By Khenpo Pema Chopel Rinpoche The mantra, or even the name of the Medicine Buddha (Skt: Bhaisajyaguru, Tib: Sangye Menla, Chin: Yaoshi-fo, Jap:Yakushi) is beneficial. Ven. Thrangu Rinpoche has said that a mantra is essentially an elaboration on the deity's name, and that any mantra is the shortest possible form of the sadhana. The Sanskrit mantra of Medicine Buddha is: Tayata, Om, Bhaishaye Bhaishaye Maha-Bhaishaye Raja Samudgate, Svaha. or, pronounced the Tibetan way: Tayata, Om, bekandzeh, bekandzeh maha-bekandzeh, radza samungateh. Soha. 'May all beings benefit from the sublime love and power of Sangye Menla' is often given as the meaning but it is not a literal translation. Since the practice of Medicine Buddha is considered a Sutrayana practice (ie, based mainly on scripture) no empowerment is necessary, but it is good to attend one or to ask for one when you have an opportunity. Khenpo Karthar has said that the practice of Sangye Menla also has been found beneficial in cases of mental illness. And it is said that even hearing the name Sangye Menla only once has benefits for subsequent rebirth, for the Medicine Buddha made 12 vows describing the various ways he can help sentient beings with their sufferings. • OSHO: A Buddha Will Be Misunderstood ? (1 of 2) OSHO International Foundation - A Buddha Will Be Misunderstood ? (1 of 2) Yes, it is absolutely enevitable. It can't be otherwise. A buddha is bound to be misunderstood. If a buddha is not misunderstood then he is not a buddha at all. Why is it so? because the buddha lives in a state which is beyond mind, and we live in minds. To translate something from the beyond to the mind is the most impossible thing in the world. It cant be done, although every buddha has tried to do it. That too is inevitable; no buddha can avoid it.
