  • MM Lee delivers Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Memorial Lecture in Brunei By Imelda Saad, Channel NewsAsia 25 February 2009 1556 hrs BRUNEI: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew said as small states surrounded by bigger neighbours, both Brunei and Singapore can complement each other to enhance growth and development. Mr Lee was speaking in Brunei at the inaugural Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Memorial Lecture on Wednesday. Over the years, the two countries have maintained close bilateral relations due in part to the friendship forged between Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Brunei's first King, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien, who was the father of the current king, Sultan Hass*** Bolkiah. Mr Lee said: "He trusted me because I never took advantage of his friendship to ask for favours. All Singapore prime ministers and ministers have scrupulously followed my policy of never taking advantage of our close friendships with the Brunei royal family and their ministers and officials." The minister mentor met Sultan Omar Ali in 1960 when he was invited to attend the Sultan's birthday celebrations together with Singapore's first President Yusof Ishak. "It was during this visit to Brunei that we struck up a friendship that was to grow and endure the rest of his life," said Mr Lee of the late Sultan. The personal bond has extended to the new generation of leaders. Mr Lee said the close ties continue "between the Sultan and his brothers with the present PM and other leaders of Singapore". He added that both countries share similar aspirations and concerns in an ...
  • Bilateral Staar Vision ICL's in HD LASIK no longer has an advantage over Staar's Visian ICL (Intraocular Contact Lens). Nearly half of the ICL's inserted in the US are now being done bilaterally. Convenience and cost control couples with safety making the ICL the latest alternative to LASIK, SBK, and Epi-LASIK. The Staar Collamer Phakic Implant corrects 3 to 16 diopters of nearsightedness with an almost instant return of stable, sharp, clear vision. James Lewis, MD, of the Wills Eye Surgical Network and The Pennsylvania College of Optometry, narrates and performs this surgery. Originally the ICL was considered for patients not suitable for LASIK. It is now considered an alternative that may be better than LASIK for many. There are less halos, starbursts and glare and absolutely no dry eye, regression or corneal issues after surgery. Dr. Lewis uses the Zeiss Visante™ (OCT: Optical Coherence Tomographer) to assess the patients both pre and post-operatively.

He made the remarks during a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon. Hun Sen, Cambodian Prime Minister, said, "Last night the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, rang me up. He called these events armed clashes, but I told him they were not. This is war, so Cambodia is asking the UN Security Council to call an immediate meeting on the situation." The UN Security Council will meet on Monday to discuss the border dispute between Cambodia and Thailand. While rejecting bilateral talks, and vowing that his country won't compromise on this issue, Hun Sen stressed that "peaceful negotiations will continue, but those negotiations must have the participation of a third party." • Rear Foot Elevated Squat We are back on the topic of traditional squats vs rear foot elevated squats. This issue resulted in so much controversy earlier in the year when Mike Boyle stated that we should no longer use the traditional squat. Coach Boyle found he was able to load the legs to a much greater extent when using the rear foot elevated squat instead of traditional squats. This video helps to explain why that may be the case. Essentially, even though both feet represent points of contact that provide stability to the lift, the rear foot elevated squat should be considered as a unilateral exercise. This is because most of the force is applied through the front foot. Studies have shown the sum of the forces produced by both legs in a unilateral exercise is greater than the force that can be produced when the same exercise is performed bilaterally. The reason for this is because the neural drive to each limb (when working bilaterally) is reduced in comparison to the neural drive to a limb working unilaterally.

  • Abnormal Cranial Nerve Exam : Cranial Nerves 3, 4 & 6- Ductions Visit us on for more free medical video and animation Cranial Nerves 3, 4 & 6- Ductions Each eye is examined with the other covered (this is called ductions). The patient is unable to adduct either the left or the right eye. If you watch closely you can see nystagmus upon abduction of each eye. When both eyes are tested together (testing versions) you can see the bilateral adduction defect with nystagmus of the abducting eye. This is bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia often caused by a demyelinating lesion effecting the MLF bilaterally. The adduction defect occurs because there is disruption of the MLF (internuclear) connections between the abducens nucleus and the lower motor neurons in the oculomotor nucleus that innervate the medial rectus muscle.
  • Macedonians Demand End to Name Negotiations Toronto, Canada and Melbourne, Australia (August 19, 2010) - Macedonians in the Republic of Macedonia, and throughout the world, are showing overwhelming support for the "Our Name is Macedonia" ad campaign, which demands that Macedonia end all negotiations with Greece over its name. Ads are appearing in print and online editions of major newspapers, television commercials are airing, billboards in the centre of Skopje are going up, and hundreds of thousands of flyers are being distributed throughout the country. MHRMI and AMHRC will also hold its third press conference announcing another update to the campaign. However, some Macedonian media outlets have decided to ignore the message of the ad campaign and publish articles attacking the Macedonian diaspora for initiating it, and even criticizing the child that appears in the ad in a desperate attempt to detract from the message. They have decided to continue their own campaign of scare-mongering, trying to convince the Macedonian public that a name change is necessary in order to enter NATO and the EU. This ad campaign is not about embracing or rejecting NATO and EU membership. It is about finally putting an end to the nonsensical "name negotiations". The focus never should have been on Macedonia to compromise its own name and identity. The focus should be on NATO, the EU, and its member-states upholding their principles, supporting and recognizing Macedonia. NATO and the EU should reprimand Greece for handcuffing them ...

  • LUSH, MAC, and Forever21 Holler! .The hamsa hand (Arabic) or hamesh hand (Hebrew) is an old and still popular apotropaic amulet for magical protection from the envious or evil eye. The words hamsa and hamesh mean "five" and refer to the digits on the hand. An alternative Islamic name for this charm is the Hand of Fatima, in reference to the daughter of Mohammed. An alternative Jewish name for it is the Hand of Miriam, in reference to the sister of Moses and Aaron. The hamsa hand appears both in a two-thumbed, bilaterally symmetrical form, as shown, and in a more natural form in which there is only one thumb. There is good archaeological evidence to suggest that the downward-pointing protective hamesh / hamsa hand predates both Judaism and Islam and that it refers to an ancient Middle Eastern goddess whose hand (or vulva, in other images) wards off the evil eye.

As you all know, I had the great pleasure of visiting him in Moscow, and he extended extraordinary hospitality to both myself and my family. More importantly, we got a lot of work done that I think will be bearing fruit in the months and years to come. And I have to say publicly how much I appreciate the excellent working relationship that President Medvedev and I have been able to develop during our meetings, not only bilaterally but also at the various summits that we've attended. We've had an excellent discussion that touched on a number of areas that our teams have been working on together over the last several months. In particular, we discussed the progress that's being made on the START treaty. And both of us are confident that we can meet our self-imposed deadline to get an agreement that substantially reduces our nuclear missiles and launchers by the end of the year. So we spent the bulk of our time talking about Iran. As I said in my speech today, the United States is committed to a strong non-proliferation regime. And we are committed to upholding the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty that strikes a bargain with all countries. That bargain says that ...

  • Bilaterally blind cow brought to auction This completely blind cow, also suffering from starvation and mastitis, was unfathomably brought to auction by a producer hoping to make a few dollars off her. Her blindness was caused by pink eye, a bacterial infection that could have been completely treated with a round of antibiotics. Dairy producers though don't like treating conditions such as pink eye and mastitis (painful, inflamed and infected teats) as it means the cow must be pulled from the production line. So instead he milks her until she can no longer continue, then ships her to auction. At livestock auctions, the seller never knows who will buy his animal. At this auction in Ontario, many buyers represent American slaughterhouses or those in Alberta or Quebec, meaning the cow would have a very long journey to slaughter ahead of her. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency's own studies have shown that the average dairy cow spends 3 weeks in transit from farm of origin to slaughterhouse, never assured of water at any of the stops. In fact, cows can legally be transported in Canada for up to 57 hours with no water or rest break. They may go for as long as 81 HOURS without food - that's longer than 3 days. Now imagine being a suffering cow - as this one surely was - being forced to undergo this.

It still contains many issues, above all of the economic character. We discussed it frankly and openly today. We discussed the status of economic cooperation in detail. We noted the unquestionably positive development of the energy dialogue, which will enable us to ensure the energy security of Europe. I take this opportunity to tell you that Russia has decided to establish an international Global Energy Prize for outstanding fundamental and applied scientific discoveries and inventions in the field of energy and the power industry.Of course there are still questions in the trade and economic sphere that we will have to resolve on a bilateral basis. There are some objective problems. And there are some extraneous problems connected with a lack of political will or bureaucratic barriers. We discussed this frankly and we agreed to continue the work to clear the path for mutually beneficial trade and investments.Todays summit again demonstrated that Russia and the European Union have a vast potential for cooperation in the broader international context. The development of the world situation demands from us joint actions, and it is heartening that ...

  • Hate Hatred or hate is a word that describes intense feelings of dislike. It can be used in a wide variety of contexts, from hatred of inanimate objects (eg vegetables) to hatred of other people, or even groups of people. Philosophers have offered many influential definitions of hatred. Rene Descartes viewed hate as an awareness that something is bad, combined with an urge to withdraw from it. Baruch Spinoza defined hate as a type of pain that is due to an external cause. Aristotle viewed hate as a desire for the annihilation of an object that is incurable by time. Finally, David Hume believed that hate is an irreducible feeling that is not definable at all.[1] In psychology, Sigmund Freud defined hate as an ego state that wishes to destroy the source of its unhappiness[2]. In a more contemporary definition, the Penguin Dictionary of Psychology defines hate as a "deep, enduring, intense emotion expressing animosity, anger, and hostility towards a person, group, or object."[3] Because hatred is believed to be long-lasting, many psychologists consider it to be more of an attitude or disposition than a (temporary) emotional state. The neural correlates of hate have been investigated with an fMRI procedure. In this experiment, people had their brains scanned while viewing pictures of people they hated. The results showed increased activity in the medial frontal gyrus, right putamen, bilaterally in the premotor cortex, in the frontal pole, and bilaterally in the medial insula of ...

  • -VIDEO 3 "BILATERAL BRAIN STIMULATION" This video is the third in a series of five emotional tuning programs, all designed to help people cope, with the unpleasant feelings such as anxiety, that often accompany a traumatic event. The negative effects of trauma may include amnesia, intrusive thoughts, distressing dreams, flashbacks, irritability, and a reduced ability to concentrate, experience pleasure, feel tender emotions, and imagine a positive future. Avoidance of traumatic memory triggers, is what often makes trauma survivors hesitate to become involved in either talk therapy or support groups. So, trauma survivors that need help the most, are often the least likely to seek it. This paradoxical effect of trauma, is the major reason we created a series of practical self-help videos. The videos can be downloaded from the internet, and the techniques practiced in the privacy of the trauma survivor's own home. The videos should be used in the same order as they are numbered. In video 3, we show how emotional meridians can be stimulated bilaterally, alternating the left and right sides of our body. In this way, we believe that the limbic system of our brain, which is mainly responsible for our emotions, can be tuned on both sides at the same time. Bilateral stimulation of the brain is achieved by consciously switching our attention, back and forth, from right to left sides of the body. Attending to these bilateral sensations of touch, sight, sound, and motion, while recalling a traumatic event, seems to shift ...

Jones said Islamabad had to act right away to curb any form of terrorism against India and added that Pakistan cannot treat its home grown terror groups as different from those who act against India. Jones, speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, also promised India more access to Mumbai terror attack accused David Coleman Headley, who is currently in the custody of US authorities in Chicago. Rajdeep Sardesai: What we have gathered from the confessions of David Coleman Headley has suggested that Pakistani state actors were involved in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. • Recurrent Respiratory Papillomatosis (RRP) Laryngeal papillomatosis is caused by human papillomavirus virus usually of subtypes 6 and 11. It usually presents with hoarseness or symptoms of airway obstruction. As compared to the adult onset, the juvenile type are generally more aggressive and requires more frequent surgical intervention to relief the airway. The mainstay of treatment is by periodic removal and amongst surgical techniques currently being employed include carbon dioxide or pulse-dye lasers, microdebrider, and by using microsurgical instruments. Antiviral agent like cidofovir and interferon therapy are indicated in selected cases. In some patient, the disease might go into remission. However, more distal involvement is possible and there is risk of malignant degeneration to squamous cell carcinoma in long-standing cases. This video shows laryngeal papillomatosis in an adult which has involved both the true and false vocal folds bilaterally. It had caused significant voice change with stridor needing surgical removal by using carbon dioxide laser.
