Betta Fish Betta fish dancing for each other. I don't get around to respond to all/most comments, but I'll try to answer what I can here. This is a male and female mating pair taken from a neglectful owner who purchased about 50 betta fish with the intent to breed them for profit and could not care for them. They were kept in tiny plastic containers which caused them a great deal of stress. Once they got in my tank, they did wonderfully. The male is flaring to show his interest in the female, and soon they were taken to a mating tank where he built a little bubble nest and they had their fun. I got the tank from PetsMart or PetCo, can't remember, and it came with a divider. I no longer have fish (this was filmed years ago). If you have problems with your fish, I recommend Googling for answers. One plant is real, the others are soft and gentle plastic, and his fins were damaged before I got him. Both fish were imported from Asia via mail. The filter was gentle enough to not bother either fish and had no current, and in fact they really seemed to enjoy it. I fed them frozen bloodworms and gave dried brine shrimp as treats, and sometimes even regular tropical fish food as treats, too.

Betta Drip System Here is my mini betta drip system. Took me 2.5 weeks to put it together. It started off with just buidling shelves for my betta beanie cases. This shelf is for my show bettas, and my breeders, so I feed them heavily on black worms, frozen blood worms, brine shrimp...so i needed daily water changes. One day, I said to myself, I'm tired of doing daily water changes and sometimes I can't due to schedule conflict. So I said, heck! I'm going to build a betta drip system. =) So, I based my design off my already made shelves. Started brainstorming, drawing some rough drafts, and just started building. I made a lot of changes from my original plan, but heck, I'm not an engineer. I just build things, and if I run into issues, I fix it or fabricate what I can to make it work. And this is what I came up with, and it works GREAT! Pump: Pond Master Mag Drive Pump 350 Max GPH Piping: 1/2 inch PVC Piping Return: Gutter Drains (Fabricated to work) Tank Used: 20L gallons I have 5 valves to control flow and adjust water flow. More updates to come later. Just gotta do some touch up work to it, and add a box filter to filter any debris, and add the finishing touch and then start drilling the beanie case over flows.

My Betta Tank Setup This is my 10 gallon aquarium which uses the Penn-Plax Betta Condo. I keep 2 bettas inside the condo, and let 1 roam freely in the fish tank. I use white sand as my substrate, and have a crawfish named Logan to keep the tank clean. Hope you like my setup. It is easy to do, and requires very little maintenance. A Happy Betta Fish This is my male Veiltail Betta, T-Rex, in his 3 gallon Eclipse tank. I HIGHLY recommend this tank for Bettas! This is the minimum size tank they should be kept in. Just because they CAN live in less does not mean they SHOULD! This tank is excellent because it has a great Bio-Wheel filter built into the hood which is very quiet and causes very little current. It just ripples the surface of the water and does not knock the Betta around even if he swims underneath it. A 25 watt heater fits in perfectly (stick it horizontally near the bottom) to keep temp at a nice 79-80F. The hood has a built in florescent light to show the Bettas colors nicely. You can clearly see the Betta is very happy and healthy. The tank can have a couple plants and a small ornament and just looks so much nicer than those tiny "Betta prisons" or ugly small bowls.

I am not sure if beta fish like currents or not because my fish usually stays to the right of the tank away from the filters current but sometimes it goes in the big plant and just lets the current push it against the (leaves?) putting other fish in with your beta is not always a bad idea they can stand other small fish like tetras. Stay away from putting fish in with betas that are brightly colored, have big wavy fins, or thats another beta even sometimes females. My Betta fish couple mating!1 Took this video on Wednesday, August the 9th of 2006 around 2-3 PM (FACT: Bettas mate until the female is depleted of eggs! The bubble nest is real, my male betta made all those bubbles. Crown tail Male and Round tail Female This is -I think- a 10-gallon tank that I bought from Wal-Mart. It was a complete kit, with filter. I cannot recall the price, but I think it was about $30?) Update: 12-18-08 I no longer have these bettas or any other fishes. I gave up my fish hobby after my baby was born. I have a really busy schedule, therefore have no time to care for the fishes. Also, both of these fishes are deceased. The fry(s) did not survive b/c of me. I'm not a breeder, therefore didn't really bother to buy a seperate tank to incubate them. I just didn't have any room in my bedroom for another tank.

Culligan the Betta Fish in his 5 Gallon Eclipse Hex Tank Here is Culligan, my first betta fish (well, first fish, period). I got him as a gift from my boyfriend about two weeks ago. He was in a tiny cup and I didn't know anything about fish so I went out and got a pretty 1 gallon glass vase and kept him in there for about a week. Then, I read up on bettas and went out and bought him this 5 gallon aquarium. If you are thinking about getting a betta fish or currently own one in a small container (under 1 gallon), please go out and get him a bigger bowl/tank to live in. It's a myth that they prefer to be confined to small environments. I mean, would you want to live out your life in some stupid cup? From what I've read from various betta care sites, 2 gallons is the minimum tank a betta should be kept in. And of course, bigger is better. A good website for betta basics is For answers to hundreds of betta issues, I like Anyway, sorry about the lecture. Hope you enjoy watching Culligan swim around :P Oh yea.. I ordered some marimo balls from overseas but they're not here yet. When they arrive, I'm going to get one or two ghost shrimp and put them all in there. Comrad the papa betta fish & his albino cory babies 12 gallon Eclipse aquarium Remember to watch in high quality. I got this tank one week ago. It's the Eclipse System 12. It's housing my 2nd betta fish, Comrad, and 3 adorable albino cory catfish (Kip, Kanu, & Kitt). It is also home to six fuzzy marimo balls. Funny story about Comrad. I wasn't planning to buy a betta fish when I walked into Walmart to buy an aquarium heater for my new tank. But I saw the bettas sulking and most looked like they were very sick. But not Comrad. He was like an inch larger than the rest of them and I thought I'd save him. Oh, and HE NEVER FLARES. I dont know what his deal is. My other betta Culligan flares all the time but Comrad is very friendly and loves it when the albino cory swims up to him. Update (01/28/09) I've added one spotted cory. He schools w/the albino cory so I don't think he's lonely. Two days ago, added 1 very small (I think its really young) African Dwarf Frog. They're all getting along very well, I'm happy to report.
