Playing off of its very viral Star Wars-themed advertisement from the 2011 Super Bowl, which featured a pint size Darth Vader experimenting with "The Force" to humorous results, the automaker is teasing its 2012 campaign with a commercial featuring a chorus of dogs barking the tune to Vader's theme song from the film. In the spot, eleven dogs of various breeds, some dressed like characters from the sci-fi classic, are seated in what looks like a spaceship set from the film. Part of the way through the song, one of the pooches dressed like Chewbacca lets even lets out a Wookie roar. But the kicker is near the end when what appears to be an Italian greyhound silently struts across the screen dressed up as an AT/AT, the giant armored walking vehicles used by The Empire to attack the rebel base on the ice Planet Hoth in the second film in the series, "The Empire Strikes Back." The commercial closes with the tag line "Back. And Better than Ever," but doesn't indicate if it is referring to a new car or perhaps mini-Vader himself. Japan Auto Woes Rev Up And it's been bad news for Japanese automakers lately. Nissan, Toyota, and Honda are all facing a slew of parts and labor issues. Shares of Japanese automakers came under pressure Thursday, after a raft of bad news ranging from parts shortages and plant idling to repairs of as many of 500000 cars. Nissan Motor declined in morning trade after Japan's No.3 said it would idle two US plants in Tennessee and Mississippi for three days because of a shortage of electronic control units. The automaker said earlier it would halt some Japanese production for three days, after Hitachi said delivery of the engine units would fall behind schedule. Separately, Toyota announced it would extend warranties and address US steering complaints on as many as a half a million late model Matrix and Corolla cars. The world No.1 is taking the action to repair vehicles outside the recall channel, as it does not consider the problems to be safety issues. Toyota has already recalled over 10 million cars, while trying to restore its tarnished image. Honda, meanwhile, said an affiliated parts supplier plant in China has been on strike since July 12. Societe Generale's Glenn Maguire says Honda, which has been plagued since May by labor issues could weather hiking salaries. Called MissionL, the crisp but conservative Skoda four-door concept is an almost-ready peek at the upcoming production model. The Skoda MissionL is expected to slot in the lineup between the Fabia and the Octavia, models North Americans know best Volkswagen Polo and Jetta derivatives. The automaker plans to launch its MissionL first in India, with units arriving there by the end of 2011. After that, Skoda will provide the MissionL to markets in Europe, Russia and China sometime in 2012. Skoda is using the MissionL concept to provide hints at the styling direction for future Skoda models. Former Toyota Lawyer: Automaker Hides Safety Problems In an exclusive interview with ABC News, a former top lawyer for Toyota claims the automaker regularly hid evidence of safety defects from consumers and regulators, and fostered a culture of "hypocrisy and deceit." "You have to understand that Toyota in Japan does not have any respect for our legal system," said Dimitrios Biller, who worked as managing counsel for Toyota's American operations from 2003 to 2007. "They did not have any respect for our laws." Biller handled product liability suits while with the company.
