The output signal of each flip-flop works as an input signal for the next trigger. Therefore, all bits of the asynchronous counter are switched sequentially, one after another, starting with the lowest order and ending with the highest order. Each next bit switches with a delay relative to the previous one, that is, asynchronously, not simultaneously with the input signal, and other bits. The more bits a counter has, the more time it takes to complete switching of all bits. This imposes severe restrictions on the input signal frequency. If the number of the counter bits is increased, for example, by half, the maximum permissible frequency of the input signal will be automatically reduced by half. There are not so many asynchronous counters in standard series of digital circuits. For example, a 4-bit IE2 binary decimal counter, 4-bit IE5 binary counter and an 8-bit IE19 binary counter. It can play up to 22KHz, 12bit uncompressed audio files of any length. It's low cost, available as an easy-to-make kit. It has an onboard DAC, filter and op-amp for high quality output. Audio files are read off of an SD/MMC card, which are available at nearly any store. Volume can be controlled with the onboard thumbwheel potentiometer. This shield is a kit, and comes with all parts you need to build it. Arduino, SD card, tools, speaker and headphones are not included. It is fairly easy to construct and anyone with a successful soldering project under their belt should be able to build it. The shield comes with an Arduino library for easy use; simply drag uncompressed wave files onto the SD card and plug it in. Then use the library to play audio when buttons are pressed, or when a sensor goes off, or when serial data is received, etc. Audio is played asynchronously as an interrupt, so the Arduino can perform tasks while the audio is playing.

  • Spanish Civil War - Year 12 2004 As part of International Culture Week 2004, Year 12 historians designed a visual documentary on the subject of the Spanish Civil War. The documentary uses 68 carefully selected photos and short archive video clips, one image for each year since the war began in 1936. One large high street retailer is using machine vision technology developed by Industrial Vision Systems Ltd to sort these cubes using automated visual inspection at 300 parts per minute. In the past, this has been a very time intensive process that has involved tens of operators that were required to visually examine each of the coloured tags and place them into bins according to the numbers printed on them. Google Tech Talks April, 18 2008 ABSTRACT Agreement problems are fundamental building blocks of reliable distributed systems, and the issue of designing reliable solutions that can cope with the high dynamism and self-organization nature of mobile ad-hoc and peer-to-peer networks is a very active field of current research. The core problem behind agreement problems is the consensus problem. Informally, a group of processes achieves consensus in the following sense: each process initially proposes a value and all correct processes must reach a common decision on some value that is equal to one of the proposed values. It is well known that in classical environments, in which entities behave asynchronously and where identities are known, consensus cannot be solved in the presence of even one process crash. It appears that self-organizing systems are even less favorable because the set and identity of participants are not known. In this talk, we are going to present necessary and sufficient conditions under which fault-tolerant consensus become solvable in these environments. Those conditions are related to the synchrony requirements of the environment, as well as the connectivity of the knowledge graph constructed by the nodes in order to communicate with their peers.
