Growing Large Emerald Green Arborvitae Tips and Pointers ' 215 651 8329 Highland Hill Farm We stock, grow and sell large Emerald Green Arborvitae. A properly planted and maintained tree will grow faster and live longer than one that is incorrectly planted. Trees can be planted almost any time of the year as long as the ground is not frozen. Late summer or early fall is the optimum time to plant trees in many areas. This gives the tree a chance to establish new roots before winter arrives and the ground freezes. When spring arrives, the tree is ready to grow. The second choice for planting is late winter or early spring. Planting in hot summer weather should be avoided. Planting in frozen soil during the winter is difficult and tough on tree roots. When the tree is dormant and the ground is frozen, there is no opportunity for the growth of new roots. Trees are purchased as container grown, balled and burlapped (B&B), and bare root. Generally, container grown are the easiest to plant and successfully establish in any season, including summer. With container grown stock, the plant has been growing in a container for a period of time. When planting container grown plants, little damage is done to the roots as the plant is transferred to the soil. Container grown trees range in size from very small plants in gallon pots up to large trees in huge pots. B&B plants frequently have been dug from a nursery, wrapped in burlap, and kept in the nursery for an additional period of time, giving the roots opportunity to ...
Repairing Arborvitae Damaged By Snow Arborvitae often do not stand up well under heavy ice or snow. As shown by the damage at Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Bensalem, PA, trunks split apart, tops lean over precariously and trees uproot. Erik Rodgers, Giroud Representative and ISA Certified Arborist, explains the problem and how to repair the damage. Bill Santry, Giroud Foreman demonstrates how to tie together split trunks. Have Giroud to make your Arborvitae beautiful again by pruning excess weight, pulling together and bracing split trunks and staking leaning or uprooted trees back into an upright position. The form of arborvitae is small, medium, or large depending on the cultivar. Some reach 50', others only 3'. Most prefer full sun to partial sun. Planting in dense shade conditions should be avoided. A moist , well drained, loamy soil in full sunlight are ideal conditions for growing healthy arborvitae. These plants will tolerate rocky, clay, urban conditions of heat drought and pollution. The most important pest we have is bagworms which must be controlled to prevent complete defoliation. Some cultivars have multiple leaders which also prove to be a detraction for the plant. Pruning out multiple leaders in some cultivars is a simple remedy. Our most popular Arborvitae is the Emerald Green arborvitae. Many people prefer to spell them Arbor Vitae . It is a bright light green color and narrow in shape. It makes a distinctive and impressive natural fence. It is easy to grow ,plant, and keep in shape. The Hetz Midget arborvitae is a dwarf globe variety. This is a good choice for along walkways and gardens. This is a tough plant that is easy to install and not going to cost a lot. It will maintain its color in the winter and will withstand snow loads well. We carry these plants in 2 and 3 gal. pots. The prices on these dwarfs vary from $15 to $30 depending on size and quantity ordered. Another ...

32-36" Green Giant Arborvitae 215 651 8329 215 651 8329 We deliver and plant The Green Giant Arborvitae (Thuja standishii x plicata) is a fast growing evergreen tree. At maturity this narrow, pyramidal growing conifer will reach 40-50 feet tall and 10-15 feet wide. Often utilized as a screening tree, to block unwanted views, dampen sound and serve as a windbreak. Green Giant Arborvitae is widely adaptable to varying soil types, performs best in well drained locations. Plant in full sun to part shade, avoid planting near or under utility lines. Hardy in zones 4-8 the Green Giant Arborvitae has rapidly become a viable substitution for the Leyland Cypress, which has been used in similar situations but has more susceptibility to disease. Once the root system becomes established in the first growing season rapid growth will be the result in subsequent seasons. In some cases you can expect 24″ inches of growth in a single season and in some cases even more. Deer resistant. Green Giant is propagated by cuttings with relative ease, and is regularly available in the nursery trade. Follow recommended planting instructions to ensure the success of your new planting.

Green Giant is tolerant of a wide variety of soils and is hardy in USDA Hardiness Zones 5 7. Receiving a Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medal Plant Award in 1998, this exceptional landscape tree can be used as an evergreen screen, hedge, or as a single specimen. [Check out our 'Green Giant' Fact Sheet here]. 'Green Giant' arborvitae is virtually maintenance free, as well as pest and disease-resistant, making it a superior alternative to the disease-prone Leyland cypress (x Cupressocyparis leylandii). Additionally, deer grazing does not appear to be a problem for these hardy trees—certainly a beneficial quality for landscape plants. Video on 7-8 ft Techny Arborvitae and Other Arborvitae We Sell 215 651 8329 Video on 7-8 ft Techny Arborvitae and Other Arborvitae We Sell.. Overall Description A pyramidal shaped arborvitae with excellent green color year round - virtually no color change / bronzing at all. Techny has also shown very good cold hardiness - good choice for cooler climates. Delicate, fernlike foliage makes Techny a wonderful choice for screens & hedge applications. Often preferred over Emerald Green Arborvitae for its better color retention, and foliage density when mature. Foliage density starts out much more "open" than Emerald Green, but thickens tremendously with age, providing good screening. Has been an extremely popular selection in northern gardens, and is slowly being used in many other areas as well. Originally discovered in Mission Gardens, Techny , Illinois. Plant Facts & Specifications Mature Height: 10-15 ft Mature Width: 3-5 ft. Growth rate: Moderate ( 6"-10" avg per yr ) Hardiness Zones: 4-8 ( if unsure of your zone, please use zone finder below ) Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade - planting in partial to mostly shade will result in lower foliage density. For best density needs to be planted in full / mostly sunny locations. Soil Preference: Average to slightly sandy, acidic - well drained Foliage Color & Texture: Good deep green - older foliage is very dark green, with newer growth being a brighter color. Foliage structure is typical of most Thuja occidentalis varieties. Flower, Cone, Or Berry Facts: Small cones ...
Emerald Arborvitae Emerald Arborvitae see or call 215 651 8329 for help in establishing healthy Emerald Arborvitae for screens and buffers. We delivre and plant to East Coast States. We are Highland Hill Farm of 5275 West swamp Rd. Fountainville Pa 18923 Plant taxonomy classifies 'Emerald Green' Arborvitae under Thuja occidentalis. 'Emerald Green' arborvitae is one of its cultivars. The common name for these conifers is often misspelled, "arbor vitae" (technically, when spelled as two words, it's a part of the human anatomy, not a tree). The term is Latin and means "tree of life," due to the alleged medicinal value of its resin. Oddly, this is a case in which a plant's common name and scientific name, while different, are both Latin!

Our 3-4 ft Thuja Green Giant Arborvitae Our 3-4 ft Thuja Green Giant Arborvitae 215 651 8329 We deliver and plant direct to you..'Green Giant' arborvitae increases in height rapidly, growing 1 -- 2 feet per growing season, sometimes more. A hedge row of 'Green Giant' was planted on the grounds of the US National Arboretum in 1998. At the time of installation, the trees were 3 -- 3 ½ feet tall on 6 ½ foot centers. Ten years later, the trees stand 18 -- 20 feet tall and 8 feet wide. Not only have they withstood the winter snow and ice here, in Washington, DC, but they have thrived despite our hot, humid, and sometimes dry Mid-Atlantic summers. All of these qualities have made 'Green Giant' arborvitae a highly desirable tree among landscapers, nurserymen, and homeowners. 'Green Giant' is propagated easily from cuttings, and so is readily available from most wholesale and retail nurseries, as well as numerous mail order sources. .

Video on Plant Height Thuja Arborvitae Green Giant Video about Measuring Thuja Plicata we areHighland Hill Farm Our website is We are at 5275 West Swamp Rd Fountainville Pa 18923. We will deliver and plant to the East Coast. Call us at 215 651 8329 The Green Giant Arborvitae is recommended for growing as a hedge or privacy buffer along a property line, or driveway. Thuja Plicata, Western Red Cedars are ideal "windrow" trees. In a row, they'll truly diminish the wind. The Green Giant Arborvitae is justifiably considered wind resistant considering the windswept mountains of the Pacific northwest. The wood itself is weak, but it is very light. Green Giant Arborvitae trees are decay resistant, too, but the "Achilles Heel," the one and only vulnerability, is to being eaten by deer. Any Arborvitae are a favorite "deer browse," or as we jokingly say, "deer candy." The Western Red Cedar, the Green Giant Arborvitae do have better deer resistance than most arborvitae. Do not plant arborvitae too far away from structures, lights, roads, etc., where there's quietude and privacy for the "browsing deer." Now that you know all about 'em, Highland Hill Farm has at least 50 or more Green Giant Arborvitae in our nursery ready for pickup at any time. They will range from 1.5' to 12' and be balled and burlapped or potted. We also have field liners and seedling Green Giant available. There are many more varieties of arborvitae available which we have in stock. If we don't stock the variety you want we will find it for ...
