Ocean Acidification 1765 - 2100 Monitoring ocean acidification is important because changes in the ocean's carbonate chemistry can have a major impact on the plant and animal life present in the ocean. For organisms with external calcium carbonate skeletons, such as corals and pteropods, the consequences can be very negative if the oceans become undersaturated (corrosive) with respect to aragonite, a form of calcium carbonate. It has been demonstrated that pteropods, a planktonic mollusk, may not be able to maintain their shells in undersaturated waters. In some studies, live pteropods were subjected to waters that are undersaturated with respect to aragonite and their shells begin to dissolve within 48 hours (Feely et al., 2004; Orr et al 2005 ). Image of Ocean Acidification Color Bar This dataset has both historic and forecasted model-based changes in the ocean's carbonate chemistry due to increasing CO2 levels, as well as the presence of coral reefs depicted. The coral reefs are represented by black X's for shallow water species and magenta X's for deep water species. The ocean acidification levels are based on the median model output of the 13 international ocean carbon models based on the OCMIP-2 Project (Orr et al. 2005). The model outputs are represented on the global map in 5-yr increments from 1765 thru 2100. The future changes in CO2 chemistry were determined based on atmospheric CO2 scenarios presented in The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) IS92a 'continually increasing' CO2 ...

(: CatFish and Cichlids in a ***y 55 Gallon Tank :) This is a video of my new 55 gallon tank, what it looked like on December 26th 2008 from my buddy Pump, and what it looks like today! There are 7 African Cichlids, 2 Pictus Catfish, and 1 Pleco in the tank now. I have 3 filters set up. 1 Marineland Magnum 350 Canister Filter, an AquaClear mini, and a smaller biowheel filter. I also have 2 heaters. 1 Marineland Stealth 200 watt Visi-Therm and another heater that I can't seem to remember the brand name. You can see the unknown named heater in the middle of the tank. I also have a Penn-Plex Silent Air X5 that is running the sweet bubbles. YEAH BUBBLES... I used pebbles as the base with 2 layers of Aragonite above that. It's strange both layers of Aragonite are the same type by the same manufacturer but one is is ground much finer. I also have a few fake plants a sick pirate ship on the right and a treasure chest on the left. Pump gave me a bunch of slate that he broke up into smaller pieces which I made into the fishy hotel on the left and the huge piece on the right is actually about 3-5 inches wider than the tank so if it fell down I think I would have 55 gallons of water in my 2nd floor condo! Pump said I have nothing to worry about but damn it looks pretty sketchy. I hope you enjoy this video. I thought it came out pretty cool. If you don't, LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF UNLESS YOU WANT A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE SPAMMING EVERY PART OF YOUR LIFE. CHEERS! Sincerely, Daniel aka RBM TeamXI aka dandaninc aka Dead Man Dan ...

The Queen of God's Creation Most proteins fold into unique 3-dimensional structures. The shape into which a protein naturally folds is known as its native conformation.[17] Although many proteins can fold unassisted, simply [lol] through the chemical properties of their amino acids, others require the aid of molecular chaperones to fold into their native states.[18] Biochemists often refer to four distinct aspects of a protein's structure:[19] In molecular biology, chaperones are proteins that assist the non-covalent folding or unfolding and the assembly or disassembly of other macromolecular structures, but do not occur in these structures when the structures are performing their normal biological functions having completed the processes of folding and/or assembly. Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. The shell of the giant pink queen conch is made of such remarkable material that scientists speak of its design, even while they say that it is a product of evolutionary chance. The beautiful shell is made of a form of calcium carbonate called aragonite. Yet it is structured in such a way that it resists fractures 100 to 1000 times better than aragonite ordinarily would. The conch's secret is that it combines the aragonite with protein. Further, its shell is made up of three layers of aragonite. The middle layer is structured around a rectangular beam of aragonite sheathed in protein. This duplex ...

Nano Lagoon (5): Shallow Sandbed A shallow sandbed of 1 depth is added to our Nano Lagoon tank. The sand is course grained aragonite (crushed coral) that has been washed with fresh water to remove the dust and fine particles. The sandbed is smoothed by hand over the floor of the tank. A shallow sandbed offers ample habitat for beneficial invertebrates while remaining aerobic and "alive." Negative aspects of deep sandbeds are avoided. These include formation of anoxic or anaerobic "dead zones" and consequent production of hydrogen sulfide gas (leading to sulfuric acid formation and declining pH). The shallow, aerobic sandbed is cheaper and easier to install than a deep sandbed. It achieves many functions essential to maintaining a healthy nano tank, including harboring beneficial bacteria and performing a buffering function as the aragonite sand slowly dissolves. Please use only captive-bred organisms in your reef aquarium. To see more of our YouTube videos, click here: Learn more about healthy reefkeeping at our website: Visit us on Facebook http
Buying Nano Reef Rock The Nano Lagoon Rock Kit from provides a quick and convenient way to install your reef and sand bed in an environmentally responsible way. No living corals or invertebrates were harmed in the making of these products. You'll receive 5 lbs of course dry sand, ample for a shallow aerobic sand bed. Also include is 6-7 lbs of dry base rock in cool shapes that look like eroded South Pacific coral. The pieces of rock are designed to let you assemble a Nano Lagoon reef similar to the one in the video. The individual pieces vary in size and shape, making each reef unique. When assembling your reef, just follow the general guidelines given in our earlier videos called "Shallow Sandbed" and "Build the Reef. Let your imagination be your guide! The sand has been pre-washed and is ready to use. The rock has been pre-soaked for 6-12 months at our facility, then sun dried prior to shipping.
