  • Evolution of Apologetics How the mighty have fallen. Perhaps it has something to do with no longer being allowed to kill the opposition. The story of Elijah on Mt. Carmel is such obvious bunk, probably ancient propaganda, and clearly opposed to Moses' and Jesus' sentiments of not testing God. I thought it would be funny to juxtapose it with a William Lane Craig-style debate. I guess somehow it wouldn't be as convincing for God to show up during one of Billy Craig's debates, with cameras rolling and a few billion potential viewers. Nope. A few hundred ancient desert people atop a drought-stricken Mt. Carmel are obviously much more important than the rest of the world. In fact, they're literally called God's "chosen people". Imagine if someone like the president had a "chosen" race of people he went out of his way to support above and against all other races. I'd dare say people would call him a racist. God is a racist according to the bible. Royalty-free music used: "Beast Appears" by Alexandr Bulgarov "Spark" by Babal "Arcadia" by Tryad Sound effects: Audio file(s) provided by

So, I thought I'd share one of my recent debates over the issue of slavery, which has always been one of the most difficult subjects for me to reconcile with the notion of an all-loving God. Although I am probably not the best person to ask about how to announce your disbelief to friends and family, my personal opinion is to take it slow and don't rush into a huge theological argument. Initially start by dropping hints, raising concerns about the Bible, and gauging reactions. Perhaps mention you've been reading some interesting passages in the Bible and it's starting to become difficult to reconcile what you read with who/what you believe God is supposed to be. When you feel ready, engage others in an detailed debate and defend your position. I find debates to be fun and engaging. I always learn something new, while sharpening my critical thinking. I hope you find this video entertaining and educational. Please leave me your thoughts and feedback. Thank you!

  • Christian Apologetics = Mental Masturbation - The Atheist Experience #800 Produced by the Atheist Community of Austin. The Atheist Experience # 800 Clip. Hosted by Russell Glasser & Jen Peeples. February 10, 2013. Meet Ian from Tampa, Florida. Ian is an Atheist, and calls in to ask a question that all Atheists have pondered. Ian has a problem with some Theist friends who say he always depends on empirical data when determining the validity of claims. These theists consider philosophical claims as equal to empirical data. It's obvious to Russell and Jen why theists want to dismiss the importance of empirical data. Their arguments don't use any. If Theists had any empirical data proving their theistic claims, they would shout it from the roof tops. So in the absence of empirical evidence, they use philosophical claims to support their arguments. This amounts to mental masturbation, and usually an embarrassing smack down during debates and arguments. Silly theists when will you learn? Enjoy. • Looney Cartooney Apologetics: JPHolding and Da Bears A complete examination of the Elisha and the Bears story, taking down JP Holding's defense of the biblical tale (actually, I suspect Holding lifted his apologetic from Walter C. Kaiser, Jr.'s book, "Hard Sayings of the Old Testament"; there is nothing new under the sun). I've removed my older Elisha and the Bears video response to Youtuber aaronk1994 since aaronk borrowed his entire apologetic from Holding. However, since Holding has decided to venture onto YouTube, I now have opportunity to deal with him directly. Holding largely defends the story of Elisha and the Bears by casting Elisha in the role of the victim and the children in the role of the villians. Holding's children also gain a number of years in age, turning them into young hooligans. In his estimation, the young thugs with their juvenile taunts got what they had coming to them. (If juvenile taunts were worthy of a massacre, however, I'm surprised Holding's still around. His nickname for me is "Dumbass" while he calls Religious Studies professor at Iowa State University Hector Avalos "Dr. Stupid." Go figure.) Please feel free to comment, rate and SUBSCRIBE! Thanks!! • Can the souls in purgatory pray for us? Catholic Answers Director of Apologetics Tim Staples on whether or not the souls in purgatory are able to pray for those of us here on earth. Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization here at Catholic Answers, but he was not always Catholic. Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. Although he fell away from the faith of his childhood, Tim came back to faith in Christ during his late *** years through the witness of Christian televangelists. Soon after, Tim joined the Marine Corps. During his four-year tour, he became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met a Marine who really knew his faith and challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two-year search for the truth. Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church! He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, for two years. Realizing that his calling was not to the ...

  • Jesus: A Know-It-All? (How Jesus Is Not God by the Standards of Christian Apologetics) A quick look at an example of how Christian apologetics ignores and even undermines the scriptures upon which Christianity is purported to be based. The New Testament plainly and unqualifiedly says--in the voice of Jesus, no less--that God the Father has unique knowledge vis-a-vis precisely when Jesus will return, that this knowledge is available to no one else. "The Father ALONE" knows; no one else knows (Mt 24:36, cf Mk 13:32). If, as the New Testament plainly and unqualifiedly claims, God the Father's knowledge is unique here, then necessarily as a biblical matter Jesus cannot be omniscient (nor can the Holy Spirit be omniscient, for that matter), which, by the apologists' own standards, means Jesus is not God. INTRODUCTION TO APOLOGETICS Do you know what you believe and why you believe it? If you are like most Christians, you are not as certain of the answer as you would like to be. In this lecture, RC explains that the science of apologetics is designed to aid Christians in the joyful task and responsibility of defending their faith. LEARNING OBJECTIVES 1. To understand the history and definition of apologetics. 2. To be encouraged to observe and imitate the Bible's apologetical methods. QUOTATIONS AND THOUGHTS Logos: Greek, meaning "word" or "reason". In Biblical Greek, especially in the book of John, it often refers to the Second Person of the Trinity. In early Greek philosophy, it was used to denote the supreme ordering force of the universe. LECTURE OUTLINE I. What is apologetics? : a) Apologetics is devoted to promoting an intellectual defense for truth claims, in this case the truth claims of the Christian faith. b) It has no reference to apologizing for something you did wrong, though it comes from the same Greek root. II. The Bible and Apologetics: a) First Peter 3:15 says, "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that ...
