Anemometer on Wind Turbine Pole Added anemometer to the wind turbine in my backyard: La Crosse WS-2316U Wireless Weather Station Anemometer (not recommended). Used anemometer to determine the wind speed necessary to spin the blades, generate power, and drive current into my 12V battery. My unbiased review of this weather station:

Anemometer by Casella of London An old mechanical counter anemometer by Casella of London. The rotations of the cup rotor are shown by the hands on the dial and sub dials.Then the graph provided by the maker is used to calculate average wind speed over a given period. The instrument comes with a nice, fitted plywood case and was obviously (?) never intended for pole mounting. Captured with my Canon Ixus 860IS digital still camera using the video option and my home-made steadycam. The video stands up quite well to full screen on HQ. I intend to make a bicycle computer copy of the same idea as it would be a shame to spoil such a nice old instrument by having it set up permanently outdoors

Homemade Anemometer from Bike Speedometer A homemade anomometer I made a while back from a digital bicycle speedometer when I was experementing with homemade wind turbine generators. A must have if you want to figure out the efficiency of your home made turbine. Modified Anemometer I made some litte modifications to my homebuilt anemometer. I replaced the wooden center disc by an inline scate wheel. Aditionally it was needful to move the sensor of the tachometer more to the center as on the outer radius it was moving to fast. The attachment was modified to be able to lower the center disk. Unfortunately there was only little and breezy wind wind when I took this video. It is still not configured to show the real wind speed but that will finished later. Anemometer hot wire flow sensor

Home Made Anemometer Anemometer is made from 3 cut 2" PVC caps (cups), 1 cut 1" PVC reducer (hub), 1 cut 1 1/4" cap (bearing cover), small threaded rod/nuts, 5/16" threaded rod (mount), ABEC 9 roller blade bearing, 5/16" jam, lock and castle nuts, cut sheet aluminum (pickup mount) , one small round magnet and a Sigma bicycle computer. The weather vane is sitting on a Maxtor Hard drive motor and bearing. The vane consists of 1 3/4" PVC cap, 1 3/4" PVC plug, small threaded rod and nuts, drilled trimmed and cut fishing weight and a small piece of sheet aluminum. I have yet to put a potentiometer on the vane. In the end I plan to finish it as a complete weather station, with temperature sensor and barometric pressure sensor. Maybe a humidity sensor. I have not decided yet. This is all in preparation of building a home brew wind generator from Volvo strut parts. The anemometer starts up in as little as 1 MPH breezes and has been very accurate. The weather vane is suffering from too little tail and too much weight on the nose. I have already made another one. Just have not installed yet.
