Amoeba gobbles algae cells in Mono Lake Sample taken from Mono Lake, California. Viewed with a Swift FM-31 Field Microscope and Nikon Coolpix 885 at 400X. Mono Lake is a soda lake [sometimes called an "alkali lake"] with a high salt content and a high pH. Such water is toxic to humans and most animals, yet a large population of microorganisms lives in Mono Lake. The algal cells are similar to Chlorella and coated the bottom of the shallows. Numbers of these Amoebae were found, busily munching the algal cells.

Rootless Algas "This film explores my experience on Flatey, an island in Breidafjördur Bay off the coast of Iceland. The rocks on the shores of Flatey were covered with thick and textured accumulations of a type of algae. The colors and the immensity of these piles were overwhelming. It is common for algae to hold on to each other like refugees, to facilitate ocean travel. My fascination with the algae increased as I identified with them. The work intends to express certain feelings of isolation and attempts to convey characteristics of the actual experience, rather than explorations or descriptions." -Grimanesa Amoros

THE KNACKS - Algas Y Veneno , 1969 , Latin Psych , Mod , 60s Bubbling Minds favorite! Taken from one of the rarest and obscure artifacts to come out from the underground Rioplatense scene ever. The Knacks managed to release only four singles between 1967 and 1970, of which only one was known in picture sleeve (EMI-Parlophone, #1163). However, I found a copy with PS of a previous single some years ago (showed on the video), which is actually their first 45, and to my knowledge, no other copies have been reported with picture sleeve until now (EMI-Parlophone, #1136). The Knacks have remained largely unknown, except for some recent reissues, and are considered the cream of the crop from this region lately. This is a superb tune, w/ nice organ arrangements, great vocal harmonies, and lyrics in English.

An Algae Bioreactor from Recycled Water Bottles Michael Fischer Stanford University mfischer at stanford.edu Two major problems facing the physical world today can be broadly categorized into (1) how to increase the amount of consumable energy available for the worlds needs and (2) how to decrease the amount of greenhouse gases produced. Of course, these problems are negatively linked together inasmuch as, without further offsets, an increase in the production of carbon fuels leads to an increase in the amount of greenhouse gases produced when these fuels are consumed. In this video we shall look at a method that breaks this negative link by considering a project that increases the worlds supply of oil using biofuels and which at the same time decreases the amount of atmospheric carbon dioxide used during its production. The resulting product is a sustainable biofuel whose carbon footprint is neutral inasmuch as the CO2 produced on consumption is essentially balanced by the CO2 used in its production.
